Are AT&T and Apple randomly cancelling iPhone 4 pre-orders?

We aren’t too sure what’s going on here, but all of a sudden our tip line has been flooded with emails from irate iPhone 4 pre-orderers who say their order has been cancelled for no apparent reason. Gizmodo is also hearing the same thing, so it seems there’s definitely something to this. We’ve got two sample emails that we were sent in after the break in case you’re curious. But in the event you’ve received such an email, we’d love it if you would keep letting us know so we can get to the bottom of this.

From AT&T:

Your iPhone order has been cancelled.

Your credit card has not been charged.

If you believe you have received this email in error, please return to the AT&T store where you placed your order.

From Apple:

Dear Customer,

We were unable to complete the authorization process for your iPhone order. As a result, we had to cancel your iPhone order. To complete the purchase of your iPhone, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an AT&T company-owned retail store.

    I placed a order the 15 of june, and 2 days ago my order was cancelled and my credit card charged. Iam sooo upset and frustrated because Iam calling AT&T and they aren’t solving my problems.

    My email cancelation stated that unfortunately we have not heard from you in several days or you have chosen to cancel your order. Their crazy because AT&T never contacted me or emailed me except to email me my confirmation number and that I will be emailed the shipping number and be billed on the day of delivery. Amazing!

    My ordered was cancelled and I saw a refund on my account though on my status it says it has shipped today and is waiting for me at home…did I just get a free iPhone 4 ’cause of the server meltdowns?? :)

      Same here, debit card in store pre-order on the 15th. f’ckin att DID NOT say no debit cards and it was not posted anywhere. charge fell off my acct 3 days later. mine says “SHIPPED” and picked up fedex delivery date tomorrow before three. free iphone 4? heh. maybe they charge my card tonight.
