Verizon's Droid X website goes live

Breaking

verizon-droid-x-site

There’s not really a whole lot for us to say here, but Verizon’s official Droid website is now showing the Droid X as “coming soon.” The site mentions that the Droid X has a 4.3″ display, “720p display” and HDMI output, and also allows potential customers to enter in their email address to get further details about the phone. Perhaps a press release will be coming along sooner than expected?

UPDATE: Verizon has realized its mistake and “720p display” now reads “captures 720p”.

for the verizon upgrade every year thing…it says you need a 59.99 plan or greater…is that the entire bill or JUST the minutes plan…

Like with my min minutes, text, and data I am well over that limit, but with just minutes its not…just wondering if its a scheme of theirs or do I have the ability to upgrade every year?

    • T Man

Just the minute plan as far as I’m aware. I use very little talk minutes so have no reason to go to the higher plan, and therefore lose my yearly upgrade pricing. While I’m testing the EVO right now, if I stay with Verizon it will be on a one year contract, that’s for sure.

      • Manny Silva

thats not true i have the least amount of mins a month and i get a yearly upgrade

  • T Man

While it is doubtful that this has a true 720p screen, it sure would be nice. Let’s hope that’s more than just a typo.

  • JAG

What about DROID Verizon commercials on TV

  • Tyler

I’m guessing “720p screen” is probably going to be either recording or ability to watch videos in 720p…

  • Bendaaho

    What was this about again?

  • B

idiots it says CAPTURES 720P not the display a-holes

    • lolwut

That was just changed… It used to say 720p screen

I’m excited for this phone and the switch from AT&T, but I’m a bit wary about Motorola’s Blur UI. I’d have to wait until it’s rooted to get stock Froyo, right? I was within minutes of buying the Incredible, but now they’re impossible to find.

Although I do enjoy all this Android goodness on Verizon, I can’t stand how they move the hard(permanent) buttons around on each device. It’s like a lefty designed one device and then a righty put together the next. I know it’s a small issue but damn, can they just pick a set layout already.

  • ludwigdrums

I don’t care what you say that thing is too damn big.

    Awesome hump too

    • Jake

That is a totally acceptable thing your opinion is, though I might have worded it differently.

It is open to interpretation on the nets.. :)

      • ludwigdrums

Of course it is, I’m not sure how well this is going to sell though because most people I know don’t have gargantuan hands.

  • Jake

Yeah, Just how will people manage..

Good grief, it’s not that big, take a vitamin.

    • ludwigdrums

That’s bigger than the EVO, which I thought was pushing it.

I thought technology was getting smaller? Leave these screen sizes to MIDs and tablets.

      • Rob D.

How small do you want your cell phones?

I thought they were getting ridiculously small and hard to hold on my hand. I have the LG VX9400 and I have a hard time holding it.

Cell phones stopped getting smaller when they became more then just a cell phone. When you could browse webpages and watch videos. A bigger screen will make these features more pleasurable.

      • ludwigdrums

I think a 3.8 inch screen stretched to the bezel would be perfect for most people. This phone is 4.3 that is not stretched to the bezel. I don’t know how big your hands are, but mine could barely hold the EVO comfortably. Not to mention the female population whose hands are much smaller than us males. Look at the picture at engadget of the female holding the droid x, does that look comfortable to you?

      • Rob D.

I didn’t see her complain about it. Why assume it was uncomfortable for her?

      • Sedge

Women like it big. You fail sir.

      • James

        Then don’t buy it.

  • iPhoneaholic

Android fanboys had wet panties til it was found to be false advertising

    • Rob D.

What? Are you confusing Android for Apple?

  • Ron Iron

Which will be better? The Droid X or the Droid Incredible?

    • Rob D.

      It would be personal preference.

If you want a bigger screen, 720p video capture, and HDMI output. Then the Droid X is for you.

      • Ron Iron

Which is faster and best for apps? I dont really intend to hdmi out from my phone. The screen isnt an amoled isnt that a drop in resolution?

      • mezmryz03

AMOLED is a display technology not a resolution description, so it can have various resolutions. They should be similarly fast and capable since they both have variants of an ARMv7 1GHz processor. The DROIDx has a little higher resolution which will is nice for the large display. Honestly, you should go in a store and take each for a spin when you can since the most important differences may be the UI(Sense v. NinjaBlur). Have fun.

      • Ron Iron

Thanks for that… it should help me make a decision

      • JAG

Wont u use the HDMI out?

Thats one of the most exciting thing in the phone. Think about watching movies, listenin to music and all that u can imagin

  • G-Unit

    “That’s what she said!”

  • EasyRider

I phone will only be the best-one until compared against the next-one.

  • EasyRider

    “typo” sorry, meant “A phone..”

  • Kenny

Now i want the droid 2. TWICE as fast as the Nexus One in benchmarks on Android 2.1. Plus better keyboard than original droid. Looking forward to it!! http://briefmobile.com/droid-2-hands-on-video

Sucks for Verizoners who bought the Incredible.

  • JL

See all the goodies coming out now hardware wise with regards to Android?

Thank the Nexus One for setting the reference standard to equal or surpass…
