MobileMe to go offline tonight, respawn with new features

General

mobileme

Just a quick little heads up to anyone who relies upon MobileMe, as the service will be down for maintenance overnight from 1am to 3am ET. Downtime is never fun, but it’s sounding a lot like when Apple’s engineers are done with the update we’ll finally see the beta label shed from the updated webmail portion of Me.com. That, and the release of a Find My iPhone app for devices running iOS 3.0 and up.

Its not a crime to be clueless, 600,000 pre orders in one day. Its not even out yet, and its breaking records. And they arent even offering the white one yet, which Im waiting for. They could have pre sold at least a million phones in the first day if white was available.

You mean to tell me, that they that have been paying for that service of apples, did not have a phone tracking feature?

    Muhahahahahahaha too freakin lame

    • Aznelementmaster

No…what they mean, I think, is that any devices with iOS 3.0 and above now have the tracking feature. With MobileMe before, you would have the tracking feature, but those without MobileMe did not have the tracking feature….read the article

LOL you just know Apple is not about business when they need to take their services offline every time there is an update!

  • Bob

Oh, so only those that have os3 an above get it if they paid for it, but now, if they atleast have os3 an above they get it free…

I wonder, If someone finds a iphone an is using it, how the hell does MobileMe find the damned thing when it (The iphone) can’t really multi-task without great effort an notifying/giving away to the finder/user to simply, shut it off, and avoid it’s detection efforts?

So users can use their mobileme dollars on insurance I guess, it all works out.

The iPhone OS has always multi-tasked. It just doesn’t allow multi-tasking between third party apps. The FindMyIphone feature works no matter what the phone is doing — as long as it’s turned on, booted, and within a cellular service signal.

MobileMe has alot more than Find my iPhone/iPad. Its also got push mail, and syncs my desktop, iPad and iPhone calendars, and contacts. I update contacts on one, and it pushes updates to the other 2 and syncs everything. I find it funny people talk shit about MobileMe, and restore their phone to new, and they have lost everything. If I hit restore on my iPhone, as soon as it comes back on, I have all of my contacts, and the calendar populates automatically. Have never lost anything.

Google is far superior when it comes to those tasks!

I hope one of the feature is “free mobileme” because that service sucks. They should rename it “MeSucker”

@Lime: everything you mentioned can be done for free with Google Sync and the iPhone’s built-in Microsoft Exchange support. But if you’d rather not have to invest the 10 minutes or so that takes to set up then feel free to pay Apple for the easier solution.

Here’s to hoping that they actually make it free with the roll out of the ip4.
