iPhone 4 shipments get pushed back again, now shipping by July 14th

Retail

iphone-july-14

Oh, dear. Those crazy iPhone fans really did go mental pre-orders, because Apple has pushed back the ship by date for the iPhone 4 for the second time in under 18 hours. Instead of a ship by date of July 2nd, all orders placed from this point on are not scheduled to ship until the 14th of July. That’s 20 days after launch. If Apple sold 600,000 iPhones yesterday alone, we cannot wait to see what the final day one figure turns out to be when all is said and done.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

I am SO glad that AT&T/Apple’s clusterfuck has taken some attention of my company’s clusterfuck!

    Sincerely yours Apple,
    Tony Hayward, BP CEO

No question that the iPhone4 rocks, so I had the feeling all this was gonna happen. That’s why I’d rather wait a couple of months to get mine. By then the frenzy will have settled a bit.

  • Counsel

1day sales figure is 600k isn’t it? Or are you wondering how many Apple and AT&T will have sold be the release date? Those are two distinct figures…

If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you? Just because you and many others think the iPhone is great doesn’t mean anyone is wrong to like another phone! Why do people need validation for everything they like?

    Grow up and think…

  • Bigfish

Don’t you guys get it by now? I really think alittle of the delays are artificial, I admit it makes me wanna stand in line on the 24th extra early and makes me want iPhone 4 alittle more than I did before they had WWDC. I think Apple knows the harder it is to get this next great phone is going to make EVERYBODY want one.

    • lawl-bigfish

problem is, you can get the next great phone, just head to your local sprint of vzw store and pick it up :-)

      • Jarrett

        @ lawl-bigfish,

Absolutely! The phones come with free non functioning Wifi and the screens detach from the casing. All at no extra cost.

  • Max

I think I saw an Apple fanboy hissing in his high heels, shaking his feather boa in anger.

  • lawl-Apple

Sure they sold 600k in the first day, some people didnt even have to pre order, they just get one :-)

    apple+ATT=fail

    • drizzy

      good one man… fuckin loser

    • Ernie

      Huh? You speaking English?

  • bingo

Yeh, this is terrible selling so many iphones, what company wouldn’t take the headaches with all those orders. Hell a few deaths thrown in couldn’t even spoil the party now.

I’m just so excited I was able to pre-order 5 iphones and they are all going to be sold for 800 bucks on ebay. I’m pretty happy for netting almost $2500

    • Ernie

What the fuck are you talking about. Have the iq’s here dropped aa of the sudden?

    • lawl-ernie

A few deaths haven’t spoiled the fun. Who wouldn’t be willing to sacrifice a few Foxconn workers for a bigger better iphone.

      • Ernie

I’m sorry, but is it any different at the htc factories? Motorola? Don’t give me that bullshit. The only reason it makes news it’s because apple uses them.

      • lawl-ernie

The only reason it makes news, is because its news? are you implying an anti-apple conspiracy to hide suicides of the employees of other manufacturers; just to make apple look bad? idk.. its sounds plausible…

      • ernielm

No, what I am implying is that Foxconn maybe the target. They make products for a lot of companies. Top companies. And I am sure there’s a lot of other companies that would love to get their hands on their contracts.

Listen, I don’t defend any of these companies that treat employees like dirt. I had the unfortunate experience of traveling to Asia with a partner a few years ago and was appalled to see how people were treated and their working conditions. They are not human in the mind of the owners and the American and European companies that subcontract with them. And no one cares because consumers want lower prices and costs need to continue to drop and margins improve so the other customers, the stockholders, are happy!

    • Ernie

And by the way by selling the phones and making money you’re profiting from their deaths. You’re so full of shit it ain’t funny.

    • Jake

Is there one fooking period in that disaster of a post.

  • Oprah Winfrey

I brought 8 lines to at&t from Verizon. My business gets a 19% discount!

  • http://c james h jackson jr

the iphone is newer than n900 buit my screen resolution is decent and i have good features

i have the front facing camera video chat
i have the multitasking with every app on n900
i have the music player widget

  • http://c james h jackson jr

its cool thou to see the iphone finally get a few of the features nokia has had for years such as multitasking videochat etc etc the iphone is slowly moving from a featurew phone to a smartphone

    • rob

holy crap, you really need to defend your nokia don’t you! what is that, 3 posts in less than an hr, all saying the same thing. no one cares about your n900, you paid to much for a mediocre device and no one envies you.

  • Frodo Baggins

So if you pre-ordered does that mean you have to wait till the 14th also or or just orders from here on out?

  • BS CALLER

You may get the discount but you’re employee’s don’t.

Trust me I have a corporate discount and my bill is the same. I have a personal iPhone and I pay full rate while my company benefits from the discount.

AT&T sold out of iPhones in a half of day. And that was only per order. 600,000 phones sold. Now just imagine on the release date. If AT&T keep showing numbers like this Verizon will never get an iPhone. When it’s all said and done AT&T will take back there throne and be the largest wireless company again. Verizon has 6 droid phones to 1 of AT&T. Pitiful

    • Giorgio

The factual part about your statement is that those 6 Android phones don’t have the ability to siphon customers like 1 iPhone does. Regardless of your phone “politics”, from a business perspective, that is hilarious.

Even with the addition of the Droid X or Shadow or whatever (I’m NOT bashing them, just being honest), it will have a minimal effect on slipping large amounts of customer away from AT&T

The whole irony is that it take the VZW iPhone to drag the customers away. Jobs has it made either way. If that’s not genius I don’t know what is. Say what you will about Apple, but they have their shit together.

  • sergio

i just got a 2nd confirmation email from att… one yesterday at 12:21 pacific and one today at about 5 pm… i hope this means im gettin my iphone on time on the 24th and not that they just received my order…. any one else get a 2nd email today?

  • Dbrockman2

i’ve checked several times thruought the day and my Apple order status still says Delivery by June 24th. Hope I’m golden!!

What are the chances of me walking into an AT&T store on the 24th and walking out with an iPhone 4?

  • PT B

600k is a small fraction of Apple’s iphone US user base of about 10mil. Hell, 1mil pre-orders is only 10%. These pre-orders are old iphone upgrades, not new users. Apple is screwed. But not as bad as AT&T.

    • Jarrett

Just maybe the dumbest comment I have read this week. This is why you are an Employee and not an Employer.

    • ernielm

Jarret’s right PT B, you’re not one of the brightest ones. C’mon, you can do it. It might hurt a little, just think it through.

  • Nepear

I am a new AT&T customer getting the iPhone 4. Have spent the last couple of months trying to make the HD2 work.

  • jonathan

@james h jackson jr, I like the N900 too having had Nseries phones for the last 6 years, but now sporting a 3GS and soon the iPhone 4. The N900 is for the geeks, and the Iphone is for the masses. It will never generate the kind of popularity and sales like the Iphone can. I consider myself a geek too and I still like the iPhone for now.

same thing will happen with the Droid X and Droid 2ghz. SOLD OUT! Just sit back, chill and wait till July folks once FROYO hits the good phones, you won’t even need the upgrade. But if you do, just think of the candy that awaits you.

  • Kawan

I got mines in time for the 24th… Who wants to buy it from me for double… sorry triple the price?

  • ScoopJockey

    Douche: Hi, I’m a douche.
    Android: And I’m an Android.
Douche: I’m very excited about the iPhone 4!
Android: Impressive piece of hardware, but you honestly believe that ONE company can produce ONE product that fits EVERY single person needs?
    Douche: Yep.
Android: What about flash?….You realize you’re missing out in half of the online experience?
Douche: Our leader tells us that flash is bad!
Android: You’re an idiot, you know that right?
    Douche: Yeah…

    • Bart Lee

      Developer: Hi I’m a developer.
      Android: Hi, I’m an Android.
Developer: I’m very excited about the iPhone 4!
Android: You know you can write apps for Android too, right?
Developer: Yeah, you know what a pain in the ass it is to write apps for the myriad screen resolutions and different hardware features of all your different models? All just to put an app in the marketplace that won’t earn me nearly what I’m making from my iPhone apps?
      Android: But I have Flash…
      Developer: Great, go play Farmville.

      • Dan

        haha thats classic.
patrick you fail son. My iphone is just fine without flash. not to mention the guy who wrote the spirit jailbreak put it on it anyways. Just a matter of time before the kinks are worked out.

  • ScoopJockey

Bart Lee, very true! From a developers perspective, who else has a larger fan base of moronic consumers who are willing to overpay for lackluster apps? No one, Apple is the cash cow in that market. In that case, developers win.

  • tyron
