According to market research firm IDC, 2010 will see shipments of PCs rebound in 2010 and erase the terrible sales figures seen in 2009. Overall sales are expected to rise 19.8% YoY with a total of 354.8 million units shipped. Notebook sales are anticipated to be the largest contributor to higher sales with growth targeted at 28.6% versus the 8.2% of desktops. As for netbooks, previously said by many to be the next big thing in personal computing, IDC believes that their sales will max out at 12% before tapering off. Why? Because everyone seems to want a tablet instead.

Did you hear the echo of your comment there jonathan?

But I think that PC’s will always be around, the ease of customization that you can do to one(pop off case, add in new GPU, pop on case, go) will always be what holds it up to the gaming community. Business like them partially for the same reason, but also a big bulky tower is less likely to be myseriously missing or misplaced whereas a laptop/netbook/tablet can’t be so easily modified or located. I’m not saying that they aren’t able to be modified, but I think a PC tower is easier to add and remove components than a laptop.
