Verizon to dish out BlackBerry Tour OS update today

We understand that BlackBerry Tour owners might feel like the forgotten redheaded stepchildren of the Verizon BlackBerry family now that the Bold 9650 has arrived, but word has it that Verizon will begin pushing out an OS update for the Tour starting at 6pm EDT. Apart from an assortment of fixes relating to the recently introduced Push-to-Talk feature, the move to 5.0.0.732 should also go a long way to fix other niggles including issues with data reception. We’ll be sure to holler back once the update is live, but if you happen to spot it before us, don’t be shy to send us a tip.

UPDATE: Looks like the wireless update is now available.

    lol. it’d be nice if they’d just fix the one major bug (the browser click in native bb browser). i acn’t believe they’ve let it go this long w/o addressing it

    Hopefully more then call quality gets fixed. My wife has one and there are some crazy bugs. One being if an android device calls and leaves a voicemail and then sends a text she is unable to reply to the text. Brought it to verizon and they couldn’t figure it out. and it only happens when androids call her. I have an incredible. So I just don’t leave voicemails.

      I have that problem with all devices… I don’t think the Tour has any idea what is calling it. I get a text when any VM is left, and it’s from someone that I have a text message convo with, it’s fragged.

        I get all sorts of weird issues since 5 came out. If I get txt from someone who is a BBM contact as well then all hell breaks loose and the message is barely visible. Its hard to explain.

    As a Tour owner I’m happy and relieved that I haven’t totally been forgotten. But I think its “too little, too late” to give me what I should have gotten right out of the box.

    I’m lookin’ at DROID X kind of hard!

    You mean VZ came out with a ‘new’ BB? I never heard them advertise it. I guess BB are becoming an underground phone club. Meanwhile, the rest of us smart people have moved on to Droids.

    Just check my Blackberry Tour (Verizon) for the update and it is currently live on my end. Time is 4:43 pm. Currently Downloading.

      I checked mine just now after reading your post. It shows the v5.0.0.732 update and I’m downloading now also. It’s 5:04 PM EST.

      Yeah every teenager on the East Coast either wants, or has a Blackberry. I am part of the latter group. Like Bam said – move onto Droids if you want, our generation loves Blackberries.

    Back when I posted (9.1), I did it through the Options/Advanced Options/Wireless Update through the phone, not through the website or desktop manager.

    I’m actually in CA (don’t know if that makes a difference), but posted it as EST since Greyson’s appeared to be EST..

    Not available on my Tour in Vienna, VA (Northern VA) as of 9:53PM EST.

    Currently running 5.0.0.591 and it says no updates available.

    This will be my last Berry upgrade – two 507 errors followed by a botched restore. The phone isn’t borked but I’ve had to redownload, reinstall and reconfigure nearly every single app I had on the phone. Mac DM failed multiple times to restore my address book (thank you GoogleSync for having my back) and were it not for BellShare apps having the backup/restore functionality, I’d be at this all night. DM even restored OLD VERSIONS of apps that shouldn’t have been in the backup file to begin with. My custom theme that I authored was reverted to some previous version I hadn’t used in months.

    Sorry RIM, you might be promising bigger and better things, but this is 2010. Among all the other shortcomings, a pushed OS update should take 2 hours to “recover” from, nor should it be such a laborious, intrusive task. Come July 14th, it’s Android for me.
