HTC Droid Incredible gets rooted

General

droid-incredible-root

Good news for all of the HTC Droid Incredible owners out there, as over the weekend the Android community finally managed to bring root access for the Incredible within reach of the masses. Although it was first rooted last week, the process was rather complicated and time consuming. But now everything has been refined to the point where it’s safe for just about anyone so long as they properly follow the instructions. If you fancy yourself more of a visual learner we’ve got a video tutorial waiting for you after the jump, but everyone else can just go straight to the Read link to grab all the necessary files and instructions.

Dear God, has BGR been living under a rock?!

  • durangojim

In other news, Hitler is dead.

    • Mickey Jones

Is that the HTC Hitler or the Motorola Hitler?

      • The Prophet Mohammad

        Actually the HTC Hitler 4GS

  • Author Unknown

At least you got plenty of time to study up on how to do it until you receive it next month….

Wow this is old. The video was made 2 days ago. Man this site turned to shit fast.

  • Mark

have few less coffees and redo the video

  • Red

The iPhone’s been able to do this for 3 years with Jailbreaking. It’s actually very simple to do, too.

And, why is this tagged for Apple products? Is BGR trying to start flame wars?

  • Dan

    Sorry Red,

per all fandroids , iphones shouldnt have to be jailbroken and therefore suck.

    Thank you for your time.

  • Shane

Uh, nothing has changed on this front since they first figured out the exploit last week. A few people have had luck using different methods to get the exploit to work, but it is still mostly just luck with hundreds (if not thousands) of Incredible owners (like myself) that aren’t able to reproduce the exploit mentioned even after hours and hours of rebooting and trying, rebooting and trying . . . Hopefully they will actually come out with a method that is usable for the masses soon.

    @Durangojim

    Haha

Really guys? This is OLD news. BGR is probably the sorriest site when it comes to keeping up with breaking news.

Red: The phone just came out…give it a few. Every Android device is different, requiring different methods to hack. Look at the Evo, it was rooted before release. Can your iPhone fanbuddies say the same? :P

On the real, the new news about the Evo and Incredible screen issues is pissing me off…c’mon HTC, you use to make such good stuff!

    • Elrabin

i’m no iPhone user, but actually iOS 4 has been successfully jailbroken already.

      http://gizmodo.com/5558277/ios-4-jailbroken-within-a-day-of-first-release

Jailbreaking / rooting is nothing new.

It takes different methods per OS / phone ROM.

      That is all.

      • Glock

iOS4 was FAR widely available than the Evo 2.1 Rom. I still think the Evo root is more impressive.

  • Jon

Is he getting the SDK folder from the CD that comes with the device?

  • lucid

How about some instructions for mac useres. You need to tell us that these are pc only instructions ahead of time but I already knew thag!

    • ZPrime

Actually, they’re not really PC-specific. You can get the same android SDK for Mac, and the commands for ADB are the same.

    • Chris

Sense of entitlement much? I thought it was common sense. Something you apparently lack.

  • Shotinthenads

The root does not work for most.

  • Ari

still not working for me… only tried on the sd card that came with the phone…

  • Brandon

    Ok…

Where do we get the following items:
    Commands.txt (seen in the video)
    SDK (from google?)
    HTC Sync (from htc?)
Loop.bat (not found in my SDK download)

I was able to get up to loop.bat and no further…

    Help!
