Microsoft just finished up officially announcing their newest gaming innovation for the Xbox 360, say hello to Kinect. Kinect is Microsoft’s new “controller-free gaming device” that is “an entirely new way to experience entertainment in the living room.” The system, formally known as Project Natal, works with an array of sensors and cameras to recognize your face as well as hand and body gestures. Kinect can understand audio commands, but more importantly “can perform full-motion tracking of the human body at 30 frames per second.” Kinect is set to launch on November 4th with 15 titles ready to go. Looks good Microsoft!

UPDATE: Looks like Engadget found some pricing info from GameStop, it would appear the price of the Kinect will be $149.99.

Primu :) Really hope this works!

When Microsoft’s carefully staged and rigged demos of this garbage are getting laughed at for their lag and poor precision you can hope all you want.

It’s nothing more than old Sony EyeToy style tech. It will only attract the hardcore Xbox fanboys just like HD-DVD.

  • Wow

149.00 seems a bit pricey to me.

A products worth is that which consumers will pay. Since this isn’t selling yet we can not conclude whether the price is too high. If I am in MSFT’s marketing department and I asking to sell it for $199. Every hard core gamer making fun of the Wii these last couple of years is going to buy this thing.

You obviously haven’t seen the Microsoft Press Conference. If you think hardcore gamers have been waiting to pet an imaginary dog you are sadly mistaken. Go ahead and lose your money in that stock bet.

        @ Nokia N900,

        1. I didn’t say I would be buying this.
        2. I am no gamer
        3. To my knowledge I don’t use Microsoft products and after calling the fall of this stock in 2000 I am a schmuck for not shorting it.

Most sites have been pimping this thing for years. I would say that 70% of people that own XBOX’s will buy this thing. After they get it they will realize that just outside their homes they have the same events available without a purchase price.

Agreed, but the 70% number is quite generous in my opinion.

49.99 seems a bit pricey for this junk.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything this devoid of fun in the history of gaming.

No wonder those two big Xbox guys just got fired…

Twenty years of research itching to finally be released. For MSFT shareholders I hope this reverses the last nine years of loss for you. I say shareholders because honestly, no one else matters. If you believe in a company’s products buy their stock. Take the chance to get some of your money back. Of course, you are wasting your time playing video games so making money probably isn’t a priority for you anyway.

This only appeals to 6 year olds and people who love to dance. I see no other uses for it. The animal game was lame and the fitness was lame, you’re better off in a gym.

      @ Nokia N900,

Or just going outside and playing in the yard (kickball, dodgeball, baseball) or going to the park. On the tech side have you seen the demo for the N9 yet? Looks pretty awesome.

      • Nokia N900

No, I have to check that out. I’m really looking forward more to Meego, but maybe Nokia can breath new life into Symbian also.

Based on the Msft clip at the link I now know where all Hollywood folks go when their careers are washed up…a Microsoft event to “act” like they know what an xbox is.

Why does everyone always hate on these things? I think with the right games and no-lag legitimate motion tracking software this has the potential to be quite amazing.

Playstation Move will be a bigger hit :) I love my xbox though.. I just happen to spend more time playing my ps3
