iPhone 4 display all high res'd up

For those of you tracking every single detail of Apple’s “we-invented-the-remix” iPhone 4, we have some high resolution shots of the display all ready to go courtesy of Robert Scoble. It is actually pretty mind-blowing that the pixels are so amazingly tiny — we can’t wait to get one in our hands. How about you? There’s a larger shot after the jump.

How many of you are going to be new AT&T subscribers when the IP4 is released?

I was considering getting one and just realized there’s no way I could do it. I’m currently on T-mobile using a MyTouch 3G (excellent phone for its time, but beginning to feel long in the tooth) and I realized that my average data usage for the last six months has been 4.5GB+ for each month! I also have unlimited texting and the most basic data plan, so my total bill is $80 or so before taxes.

However, if I move to AT&T, I would end up paying over $130 ($40 for voice, $20 for txting, $25 for first 2 GB, and $45 for additional 3GB) before taxes!

I wonder how many of you are in the same boat. And given the IP4′s more goregous display and faster processor, I’m pretty sure I’d use even more data than that!

I think AT&T is really going to price themselves out of the market on this one…

    • Roman

I hope AT&T does lose business for their pricing model, their prices are ridiculous, but while they have the iPhone exclusively, these prices will not stop.

    • Sonya

I was considering trying the iPhone out now since it has finally covered the basics, but the data limit bothers me. I’ve checked my data for the past 6 months and I only use 1 GB so I should be fine, but still doesn’t sit well with me.

      • Roman

Thats what pushes me away from the phone, it’s suppose to be a media rich experience meaning alot of streaming sites and apps, but the GB limit is crazy. I have sling player, not sure if it works over 3G for the iPhone or not, but what am I supposed to do with that limit, plain greedy.

    • jaywhy

you would actually only end up paying $30 for the extra 3gb if that makes a difference. if you are on the $25 2gb data plan its an extra $10 per 1gb you go over.

      • Joe B.

Doubt it makes a difference either way he’d be getting raped on the cost of data from AT&T.

    • BoldMove

Why do people shop at Hugo Boss instead of Express!
      Can’t afford at&t then stay with T-Mobile

  • Steve Austin

I like the way you have to zoom in 20x to read that screen. Hey, nice font….if you have a bionic eye to zoom in on that tiny screen.

    • Noel

      interesting comment…love ur take : )

    • Steve G

So a full blown news website is displayed really small on a 3.5″ screen? Weird. Would not have expected that.

I also do not understand why movies look bigger on my 50″ HDTV then they do on my old 32″ tv. Could you please explain why?

  • FrankUSA

The screen is so clear I can see the stem…..

  • jonathan

@FrankUSA, Out of curiosity I went to an Android posting and notice that it’s rare that I see Apple fans trolling there, but they are just rampant in all Iphone or any Apple posting, more than Apple fans themselves. They seem to ignore facts too. Example: Fact: The iPhone 4 has the best Rez screen to date. Hater’s response: Well, the HTC Evo has a 4 inch screen and it’s better viewing than the iPhone 4. Hello, we are just talking about screen Rez to date, and I’m sure something else will beat it soon enough anyway. I guess the logical response would be to acknowledge it’s the highest screen resolution for now , but viewing is better on a larger screen size. higher screen resolution vs. bigger screen is another debate too.

no sir that not true my friend…2 windows mobile phones…toshiba and sony experia
in the past have had the same resolution..so once again thats a fail

      • Tazzy

Actually sir… even if that’s true (not sure either way) he said best rez to date… so if they had the same rex… then all three phones have the best screen rez to date…

      • Michael Perry

Also let’s not forget that the res on the iPhone is a 3.5 inch screen. So it would be better quality than that same res on lets say a 4 inch screen. Fitting that high of a resolution on a smaller screen actually makes the visual quality better. So that Toshiba and Sony phone would have to have 960X640 on a 3.5 inch screen to compare…
Which two phones from Toshiba and Sony has this exact res? Let me know so I can take a peek.

    • dario

It is the highest resolution to date. But Apple and sites like this will claim Apple just created the first phone with a high resolution, period. This is what draws out the haters. The sheer arrogance of this company and product to tout their technology and software as the first of its kind.

Yes, for once Apple has something where the numbers do not lie. But once again Steve oversells the retina display which is more hyperbole than anything else. And people wonder why the haters come out.

We don’t need to ignore the facts when they are so obviously apparent to the audience at large.

      • Celz

Dario explained it perfect.. The new iPhone has hands down the highest res screen ever but there are many other features that go into having the best screen and other companies have screens that are comparable overall features..

When Samsung or HTC or Blackberry or Google or Nokia or MS or anyone else in the tech industry releases a new product they let the numbers do the talking.. Apple tries to include emotion and feeling to up these numbers which is good for Apple shareholders because some people fall for it, but it makes haters come out the woodworks because its a joke.. The iphone is far from magical and you would be hard pressed to find a feature that apple pioneered on it.. Im not talking about a patent, I mean a feature bluetooth, appstore, wifi etc etc.. The iPhone is revolutionary but saying magical is a joke and its literally funny..

  • Wikki

Source! Wheres the proof. With such a bold claim wheres the proof. SOURCE!

  • Apocalypse

Granted the view is twice as large but the resolution is the same as on my Tour?

  • ld;ldk

    lol..nothing different than MY 3GS

  • jazzyl

I’m getting the iphone 4 when they release in South Africa.

@Michael, hmmmm I had an Xperia, returned it after one month to Dell, good build but laggy windows mobile 6.1 and could’nt even tap the tiny icons and crashes galore. Screen res was good didn’t know it was comparable to the retina display, but that was a true complete FAIL. I bet iPhone 4 sales won’ t be a fail. How ironic that haters use Fail on the iPhone when it’s the other way around. oh, Toshiba actually made phones huh, that’s useful trivial info thanks.

When I read posts like this I tend to chalk it up to the user. I have been using WinMo for years. Barely ever a crash. And if so it was due to a bad 3rd party program.

FAIL is more about lack of sales. Fail is not achieving the goals or features your product is touting to have. People will buy anything with slick marketing so while the product fails in some areas it will still succeed in other due to over saturation of media and the sheep effect.

Oh well. I have been enjoying 800×600 resolution and many of the other features the iPhone just recently added to their phone for several years now. About time Apple joined the fun.

  • Kozjegyzo

Really nice screen, BUT it’s still just a dumbphone… Go Android! :)

  • att-sux

nice phone, but it’s like a ferrari in the mud….att is a pos network.

    • Verizon-Sux

Still a Ferrari and no you still can not afford it. Stop with the Network excuses.

  • jonathan T

Don’t get me wrong guys, I actually like android but still not enough to get me off the Iphone. If all your claims become true in the future then I’ll be off with an android phone. I am partial to Nokia too. I like competition, its the off the line pre-adolescent comments that I’m not too crazy about.

  • jonathan

@dario, well said. The term fail is used by haters a lot and totally contradictory to what is happening. I didn’t have a good experience with Xperia running window mobile 6.1. Kept crashing although the personalized panels were nice. Apple is in the position to tout their products and claim it’s the greatest. wouldn’t you if you were in that positon? it’s called business. Techies know if it’s true or not, but if you like the phone you get it not because of Jobs fancy words, but based on your user experience. Android is a great alternative to the iPhone Os and has great potential, it just needs more polish.

Interesting how they make it look like front facing camera on the iP4 was a first on any phone…Nokia and others have had that for long as i can remember. Also the second mic for noise cancellation..they are trying to make it look again like an apple invention..we all know the HTC/Google N1 came out with that in January…i am not sure it may have been on other phone b4 that even. So enuf with the unnecessary claims…just compete in the market place…let the masses decide whats best. The phone tech is not all that clear cut anymore…lots of gray areas an similar or overlapping technology.

    • Romeo

Again, where did Apple say it was the first on any phone?

I like how many people throw up comments with nothing to support it.

Apple is known for stealing ideas, but guess what? They’re also known for making it work, which the other companies weren’t able to do. Look how they made the mouse seem like it was there idea. Yes, it was out before, but was laughed at until Apple “introduced” it.

Apple isn’t just about being first, it is about doing it the right way with customer ease in mind.

How about this… Apple has copy & paste now, but how many companies have the “undo” feature? I use the undo feature a lot.

It’s funny how the iPhone has 90% satisfaction rating and the closest one (RIM), not being close. There is a reason for it… they make it work.

Apple may join the birthday party late, but they usually show up with the best present.

    • Jim Davis

The Motorola Droid has a noise cancelling second mike and an 854×480 display. It came out in October or November.

  • jonathan

@Noel, yeah video conferencing has been around a long time with the Asian and European market. my N95 has it but I never used that feature since carriers did not support it here. By all means, let the consumer market decide come June 24th.

I get to keep my unlimited data plan! granfathered in! w00t!!!

    • dirtypirate

ditto! really gonna need it with the ip4 when the netflix app gets dropped late summer.

    • Joe B.

That only applies for those using their current Iphone model. The momement you upgrade to a new one you will be forced to select one of the new data plans.

      • Scott

I am not sure about that. I was confirmed by AT&T I was able to keep my unlimited plan with the new iPhone 4. AT&T said as long as I did not change the data plan or decide to use the tethering, I was able to keep the unlimited data plan.

Apple did revolutionize the smart phone. Look at all the hype iPhone has caused. They made a smart phone what was easy for anyone to use, functional and looks great. While they were not the first to add many features, they did make it work. That’s what Job’s said at the iPhone announcement. He never said they invented these features, they just took them and made them work well.

There are great phones out there. It is up to the person which one they like and serves their needs. Obviously, the iPhone serves the needs of many, just look at the sales.

I use about two gigs of data per month on my Eris, three whenever I travel (Free turn by turn GPS). I will probably consume more data when I get a newer phone that does even more so I have to stay away from AT&T. A five gig cap would have been better.
