Motorola Shadow launching in July, DROID 2 in August

Breaking

We have heard from a source that the two upcoming Motorola Android handsets that have been floating about are launching pretty soon. The Motorola Shadow (DRIOD X, keyboardless DROID) is set to launch in July with “shadow BLUR” and Android 2.1. The Motorola DROID 2 is pegged for launch in August with… wait for it… Android 2.2 on Verizon. Both devices are said to have OMAP3630 processors.

I admit, I love apple products, love the iPhone.
The part I don’t get is if Android is such a good OS, why do moto/htc etc have to put their own spin on the OS to make it feel complete? ( motoblur etc )
That just makes the phone unable to upgrade soon as a new one is available because the manufacturer has to fix it for that particular phone.
I like the idea of Android. If nothing else, it will keep Apple from getting lazy.
As far as all these “specs”, they don’t mean as much as people put into them.
I have a 3.2Ghz quad core gaming rig at home and a mac mini with a 2.13 dual core. the Mac mini is nearly as fast in normal tasks as the gaming machine.
Of course the gaming machine does come out in front with games, but for normal every day program running, the mac is just as snappy.

Trust me here, the difference between an Eris/Ally (on VZW) and the SnapDragon and OMAP’s is huge.

Played with an LG ALLY at the VZW store, slow piece of garbage compared to droid. Eris/Ally both have low res screens and it shows.

I have a huge problem with Moto ruining the Android OS with Motoblur myself. All it does is add social networking kiddie shit to the phone making it unattractive to any consumer over the age of 18.. That being said try out the new Dell Streak, it’s an Android powered tablet and makes the iPad look like what most Apple products are. A pretty interface and casing with mediocre software.

The reason why they try to put their own spin is because these brands are trying their hardest not to become just a dime a dozen to the people. They want some brand loyalty as to guarantee return customers. Sooo they have to have something that makes them stand out more than just relying on Hardware, because hardware is something any company can get. Just buy the parts.

I see Google benefits most from this deal because in the end, everybody is buying the Moto Droids or HTC Droids devices because of Google and not because of Motorola or HTC. Thus having an the potential commoditizing their product. Kinda like how Windows PCs are all the same for the most part.

apple_, that’s a good question. Why would every manufacturer put its own spin on Android? Why would Apple put its own spin on Unix? Wild shot in the dark, your gaming rig runs Windows? There’s your problem.

Anyway, I have a Droid and I love it. I’ve been through dozens of phones over the last four years and I’m sticking with Android. I paid full retail for my Droid and I’ll pay full retail for my Droid 2. They’re simply the best constructed, easy to use, flawless devices I’ve ever seen. It boasts everything the iPhone does not. I think you’re right though, it will keep the market competitive, which will make for a very good smartphone war.

I have the Motorola Droid and I can’t stand it. I had a BB Pearl before that. I couldn’t talk on the phone no matter if I made the call or the call came in. The screen would not shut off so you constantly where hitting things and even hanging up on people. I don’t like wearing a blue-tooth anymore than I have to. iPhone screen turns off on a call so that doesn’t happen. Don’t make a touch screen phone if you can’t talk on it cause it defeats the purpose of having a PHONE. There are other devices that you can buy to do the other things a smartphone does. I am back to using a BB cause I didn’t want an iPhone. I have messed with my husbands enough to know I don’t want one. Glad you love your Droid cause mine was a waste of money.

Wake up. It’s DROID, not DRIOD.
