According to Ray Maguire, head of Sony’s UK PlayStation division, the future will see the majority of first-person games for the PlayStation available in 3D; Macguire made the comment during a recent interview with ComputerandVideoGames.com. As for when all of PlayStation’s top-billed titles will be in 3D — something which Sony expects all major gaming studios to do with their most popular franchises — Maguire believes this will happen around 2014, by which time Sony expects as many as 40% of households will have a 3D TV. Today marked the first day of sales for Sony’s first 3D PS3 titles which include WipEout HD, SuperStarust HD, PAIN and a single level demo of MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.

I wonder what the long-term effects of 3D are on the eyes? Anyone ever bumped into a study on this? I’ll be wearing 10in thick glasses before its over with if its bad! ;0)~

People when start buying 3D HDTV’s when they start hitting the < $1000 sweet spot.

Watched the Masters in 3D at BestBuy on some $4000 3D tv… looked like crap, the normal HD TV beside it looked 100 times better, and was half the cost.

I doubt 3D will never become mainstream, it will only be big in cartoon movies and perhaps video games. Something about sitting around with friends wearing dorky glasses really turns me off. Until its possible to ditch the glasses, I wont be getting 3D tv.

If you are buying into 3D (TV’s, Movies, Video Games/Consoles ect ect) with disposable income cool, good for you to support future technology (even though it won’t stick). Now, if you are buying into it on credit or taking away from your family (as most are) shame on you for creating a financial travesty for your lives and the tax payer’s lives who will eventually bail you out in bankruptcy proceedings.

In the year 2020, 77% of all U.S. households will have a 3D television after dvds become available in 3D, more affordable televisions with the 3D technology becomes available, games being sold that have 3D technology, game systems and more Hollywood movies coming out will be available in 3D.

The only thing 3D looks impressive on is IMAX. On anything smaller it is just annoying.

I demo a HD-3DTV at Best Buy and I gotta say it really sux. If your looking at a movie that is letter box on a 60″ HDTV, it does not seem like its 3D at all. Now a game might feel different. I have an over head projector onto a 106″ screen. I would love to see an over head projector in 3D. I think right now it’s a novelty. I work for a cable company. I have customers who have not even changed over to HDTV and now we are throwing 3D at them. It’s way too soon and the technology still needs work. It’s great for movie theaters, but I think that 3D will fail until the technology gets better and the price drops. Just like what happend to Bluray. Still Bluray has not set the impact that DVD’s did back in the day. Simple fact. Bluray is not the only form of way to get HD movies. Not everyone want to buy a disc and the price for a Bluray movie can be expensive. I know people who own an upconvert DVD player and they are happy with that. The TV is evolving faster than people can catch up with. Internet TV, 3DTV, HDTV.. Plasma, DLP, LCD, OLED. No wonder people have ADHD or have OCD. All these acronyms are driving the baby boomers crazy.

40% of households having 3-D capable TVs in 4 years?!?!?

This is another case of upper management not using common sense. I bet you they’re basing the percentage off of a few tech surveys. Or even worse – the amount of people who saw Avatar and Shrek 3D!

People are just now buying HDTVs! And the ones they are buying are generally less than 500 dollars. The ones that will “get you there” with basic features. We’re a nation where 25% of the nation does not have the internet and only 70M have broadband just to put it in perspective. I haven’t looked at HDTV stats, but I’m sure the typical American isn’t replacing their regular tube fast enough to think that in 4 years they’ll also want 3D!

This blog posting isn’t a joke, because BGR is just reporting the news. But, this article is a joke. Maybe this is why Sony at one point was losing revenues in every dept!

3D gaming is not going to be the future. I can tell you that right now. It’s going to be another novelty.

Sony also said the Wii would have a negligible impact on PS3 sales…. We all know how that worked out, the PS3 is the worst selling platform out of the 3 options.

You are literally comparing apples….to tomatoes

Come on man….you could compare the 360 to the PS3…but the wii to the ps3??? (or 360)…

3D sucks! And its not new! Why is it being incorporated into EVERYTHING when it looks crappy to begin with?

Not really… The only people who care about 3D are the companies who want to bank on it.
