Motorola planning a 2GHz Android superphone

Apparently during his speech to Execute Club, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha talked about more than video calling in future devices. According to ConceivablyTech, Jha also said that before the year’s end his company plans on launching an Android superphone powered by a 2GHz processor. While this alone is more than enough to whet our appetites, Jha wasn’t too keen on saying more. So it’s a good thing then that a different Motorola exec was willing to talk under the condition of anonymity. According to the mysterious one, the handset Jha was talking about will feature an NVIDIA Tegra GPU, camera with “more than 5 megapixels” and HD video recording, HD display, 720p out, Flash 10.1 and gyroscope. This might sound like a bit of a fanboy’s fantasy phone, but we’re willing to keep the faith. How about you?

        It’s funny because, Iphone 3G and 3GS didn’t even have multi tasking and their battery still sucks @$$, Android and it’s power to be on different carriers is going to knock Iphone out of the ball park.

        no it was the iphone, when the iphone 4 and 3gs were next to eachother they were both on wifi, iphone4 failed to load but the 3gs was still connected, therefor it was the iphone4 problem. POS

        Got to say, the Android fanboys just may be worse than the Apple fanboys.

        Hardware is cyclical. While there will be minor differences, all manufactures, with the exception of vendors that engineer everything (like Apple engineers the A4). At the end of the day, its the software that makes the phone.

        Its not just hardware or software alone that makes a good smart phone. Its the culmination of the two to make a seamless product. Furthermore, just because you have more megapixels doesn’t mean you have a better camera. Same with the processor, if the processor is blazing fast but is hot and drains battery what good is it.

        Note to Sanjay. One of the reasons you hold off on talking about future products is that you don’t want to lead customers on and disappoint them if you can’t meet their expectations. You’ve said it, now you are going to have to deliver.

        This Apple vs. Google is the new Ford vs. Chevy. The fans of each won’t sell their soul for the other. Welcome to the new pissing contest of the 21st century.

      Well the iphone copied the HTC evo with the gront face camera so we can that a fair game plus the gyroscope belongs to a third party and it is not owned by apple. Just like the screen on the iphone, it is designed by apple but it is made by samsung.

        Front facing camera has been around before the Evo, so I don’t think Apple copied it from Evo. I have nothing against copying at all. I’m just amused when people denies the fact that everyone tries to mimic what the iphone is doing just because they don’t like Apple.

        What Apple needs to do if they want to survive this war is to start buying out other companies that have new techs. Thats why it takes a whole year for a big new Apple update and only a couple months for an Android update of the same size. Google buys out more companies for their techs than you buy groceries at the store in a month!

    I wonder why they have to brag on features on a nameless device that won’t be launched six months from now, and probably won’t even be available until March or April of 2011. And they chose to announce it two weeks before the iphone4 becomes available. Go figure.

    The iPhone 4 will definitely be behind on terms of specs a year from now; Android development and growth is still going to increase. Despite this, there is no doubt that the iPhone 4 will sell in the millions, due to the kind of Apple fanboys insisting upon the fact it is ‘the best phone in the world’.

        Agreed! I read something somewhere that said the ‘amazing retina display’ is at its best when the phone is held 18 inches away from the eye. At least we’ll be able to see ‘em coming! lmao :)

    The iphone has been behind in specs since the 3G. There is noway a single device that is replace once a year can not get out spec by constant flow of devices released over the entire year.

    2GHz? I haven’t seen any phone overclocked or even stock (i.e. Evo) running at even 1GHz without putting a serious dent in the battery. I’m really curious how they’re going to pull that off. I wonder if this will be the Shadow/Xtreme we’ve been hearing about?

      it wont need to be overclocked anymore…you’ll be gettin the whole 2GHz supposedly. However iPhone 4G is overclocking its 1GHz processor to keep up with ‘Apple specifications’ so suck it up iPhanboys the end is near

    There is word about a new droid phone call the droid x 4.3 screen front facing cam qwerty keybored and 1ghz omap processer check out phandroid for more info they said this is different from the droid 2 and droid xtreme so we might have 3 new droids on verizon

    Wow cool. Lol. Is it going to 5.5 inches big. Run a more choppy, slower android version that’s out now. I have a incredible and it all ready outdated. WTF google slow it down. Enough with bringing out a better phone every 4 weeks. No matter in two weeks I’m jumping ship to iPhone 4. And back to AT&T where I get better coverage where I live. Had enough of android and verizon bs.

    Guys Guys Guys, “OMG its gonna drain my battery, it wont last “… you guys obliviously don’t keep up on battery technology.. Motorola (and others) are now testing and will soon be implementing nickel battery technology (no more Li-Ion).. they charge in half the time and last 3x as long. Weirdly enough if this phone doesn’t come out for 6-8 months, those batteries will be out.. coincidence?

    I’m amazed at how ANDROID phones get released like every month and an iPhone gets released every year, and the iPhone still manages to hold its own against newer ANDROID phones…I’m not getting my hopes up for this Moto superphone, it’s most likely going to Verizon…

      Question, can you download music, movies, tv shows and podcasts on demand on that Android based phone?

      Can you guarantee that app you downloaded doesn’t contain spyware?

      When you gonna get the release of Froyo on your phone? Will it be available the first day its released from Google?

      That multi-tasking feature, does it drain your batter after you have a lot of apps running in the background on your phone? Its like a windows process right? I just chews up time and power right?

      You must be pretty dumb not to see that that high end Android phone doesn’t even compete with an iPhone 4 in terms of experience.

      I know, you have a hard on for hardware. Thats cool. Remember, a super computer running Windows 95 will still get the blue screen of death and suck.

        To compete means that there is actual competition, and in this case there isn’t,. We have a high end feature phone masquerading as a smartphone or we have a state of the art smartphone with REAL multitasking… not even close…

        Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes (dont call ‘em podcasts but we stream more than download), Yes to Spyware AND Antivirus (joking?), Froyos out en-mass already or you could get it early if you rooted your android (jailbreak to u – only root is 10x better), Multitaking is a bad joke on IOS (and no it doesn’t kill my batt. or memory while 200+ apps are running). I can back up my whole phone and sync it to any new android. And thats just software and guts…hardware spanks iPhone hands down. Oh yeh and iPhone 4G has almost zero experience which you speak of. LMAO, poor misinformed iPhan.
