Analyst predicts T-Mobile iPhone

Rumor

iphone-4

Despite a rash of rumors which would have the iPhone landing on Verizon Wireless before the end of the year, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu believes it’s more likely we’ll first see an AWS 3G version of the iPhone offered by T-Mobile. Although it might come as a shock to some considering AT&T’s exclusive on the 3G iPad and the impending retail launch of the iPhone 4, Wu believes that Apple is eager to “attack Android more directly” and argues that Apple would need to get the iPhone into the line-up of carriers that currently tout Android. ”While the general consensus is around Verizon (which we believe will happen eventually), we continue to believe that T-Mobile USA is the most likely candidate given its use of similar cellular technology as AT&T,” said Wu who added “we are picking up that T-Mobile views the iPhone as key in winning back lost customers and as such could be more likely to agree to Apple’s terms.” So what do you think? Is Wu, the man who claimed that iTunes.com and a refresh to the Mac Pro were coming to WWDC, off his rocker, or do you think this is possible?

I just wish ALL the carriers would upgrade their networks to support the device and Apple manufacturing a model for all of them. THEN there’d be a nice spread of users on each network… no more pain, not more overflow… just love, peace and happiness.

    Oh, I was just dreaming.

You’re not dreaming, that’s called Canada!

Seriously, it really happened in Canada and we’re all pretty damn happy.

iPhone on T-Mobile would be awesome.

Okay, honestly, you’d have to be insane to consider T-Mobile over Verizon or even Sprint for the next carrier to put the iPhone on. Why? While AT&T’s 3G coverage might a bit hit and miss, with unreliable speeds, at least they have advertise-able 3G coverage. Has anyone looked at T-Mobile’s 3G map lately? It’s practically non-existent. Unless you live in a major city, you’ll be guaranteed to be stuck on dial-up speed data. Not only that, but coverage off of major highways in rural areas is typically zilch too, from what I hear.

Again, I don’t care how fast your 3G is if it isn’t available virtually everywhere, like Verizon’s is. Verizon has simply done what no other carrier has done, which is bring 3G to most of rural America. I can’t wait to see what they do with LTE. Anyway, for Apple to go through all the trouble and cost of producing an iPhone with different bands, you can bet they’re going to want to make one that they can really get the best return on their investment with, which would be hands-down Verizon in terms of subscriber numbers and overall quality of service (that’s phone/data service, not necessarily customer service).

Brad you need to move to civilization and away from the boonies. Seriously iPhone on tmobile would be an easy first step since it’s gsm and not coma. Apple could inexpensively add the multi gsm band chip to work on tmobiles 3G band. Verizon & Sprint would come next.

    Brad:

The information you have received about T-Mobile’s poor 3G coverage is false. I’ve had T-Mobile for years and even on those long road trips, I still have 3G coverage most of the time. The iPhone is coming to T-Mobile baby!

Same here, I’m quite happy with tmobiles service & especially their even more plus plan with no contract, much less expensive talk, text & data/ internet plan compared to either AT&T’s / Verizon’s rates – which are well over $100 for unlimited service. Only Sprint’s is even close, but I dislike the cdma technology. I’m paying $80 for unlimited everything plus I can tether for free with a rooted Android device. Verizon / AT&T expects you to pay extra for this and caps your limit. What a scam.
