The first time I saw OS 6 I was cautiously optimistic. The second time I saw OS 6 I became skeptical. The third and final time I saw OS 6 I realized it’s just the same old crap dressed up in a different outfit.

    • Tdot34

Because RIM got it right the first time. It’s OS has had features on it for 5 years that Android and iOS are just getting. The only area RIM lags in is the browser, which is being fixed with OS6.

Let me know when iOS is not hacked into in under 12 seconds, that would be truly magical and revolutionary.

      • AJF

Tdot34, you mean features like battery pulls ? I haven’t had to pull the battery once on my Incredible.

    • AJF

Yea, and why is it taking so long to be released? Because it sucks so bad they’re still trying to get the bugs out.

      • http://www.sportstimeclocks.com Marc

AJF Clearly you know nothing about market share or marketing, you need to time your releases of product and when to bring to market.

  • Borzou

At very least we’ll get a webkit browser. When is this thing coming out anyway? I want it on my Storm2 in 2008 when this kind of thing was impressive.

  • Candice

ok, this is nice and all. i want my bb 9800 now. when is it coming out??? i want it right now.

  • josiah

HEY RIM! I got 2003 on the line for you – - they’d like their Operating system back.

    BB6 = BB5 = BB4.7 = BB4.2(plus some minor upgrades and tweaks)

    • http://justskate.me netposer

Hey josiah…I think you are off by about 3 years. And also I don’t even think iOS has changed much since the first iPhone other than the obvious omissions like copy/paste, multi-tasking, Exchange support, MMS, etc.. All of which were available in the BB OS way before the first iPhone.

How about cranking up Pandora on your jesus phone then go check your email. FAIL.

  • Tony the Tiger

This is nice , But I rather have the New BB Slider 9800, Just don’t bring that bulls***t to sprint.
Sprint needs a BB touch Screen either the Storm 2 or slider

  • Me

    RIM is a joke.

“at least we’ll get a webkit browser”

    hhahaha

    • yoyoma

bb > iphone you retard. do your research plz

      • jayrodathome

your mom told me the same thing last night. I didn’t believe her but now looking back maybe she had a point…..

      • yoyoma

so hows your sexlife with your iphone? is good?

  • CMC

Nice fresh new OS. Looks really nice. I was wondering what device to get next, but now I don’t have to wonder anymore. Anything with OS6 on it :) Glad to see that RIM not only fully caught up to Apple and Android on the “niceness” factor, but have their continued strengths still there…like Profiles, BBM, and of course, the REAL multitasking that ALL BBs have done for ages now.

    Pushing ahead nicely RIM.

  • Max

This is almost as nice as the OS on my IBM PcJr in 1985! Awesome job, RIM!!

  • runningaway

Too bad that they’re about 2 years too late

  • Sprinter

The only two problems with BB’s OS is the sub-par web browser and the fact that it has been difficult to develop for. Both of these issues are being fixed with OS 6, and, quite frankly, were never as bad as people made them out to be.

    • yoyoma

thats so true. but there’s alot of haters out there. what are ya ganna do? :/

  • Jim

Seriously look at those icons. So shallow. So hollow. They aren’t interesting at all. The interface is boring. I’m sure it works. Hey even Paris Hilton and Miley Cyrus can work this thing so if they can do it, more than likely at least half of business people can use it and be entertained by it. Hey a rattle keeps a baby entertained for hours so no difference here.

    • V

      Bottom line, it works.

I don’t need my phone to be flashy yet not work when I need it to.

If it looks ok, and works as I need it to, then perfect. And BlackBerries do just that.

The features that the iPhone has been adding to its OS have been on BB for YEARS. The items (games/useless apps) that make it the cool phone are not for everyone. Most apps that are worthwhile are on all platforms.

    • Mark Texas

If your spending your day looking at icons you need to get a job. Could the fact be that the majority of BB users actually ummm have stuff to do and they don’t bother looking at said icons be the difference? It’s all about being productive and iPhone is no where close to what Blackberry offers.

Pretty icons – check. They got that covered. Just don’t try and delete any of the core apps. We’ll give you folders now though!

      • Jim

        Try deleting Bing?

  • Dave

rim still needs to address several things. the need a fast and better browser (coming soon), they need to increase the speed of the OS and apps. I mean google maps take forever to load and takes forever to scroll around. they need to get better apps and make them a lot cheaper.

    • Sith_Apprentice

RIM rarely develops applications. Their primary focus is the integrity of the core OS. Whens the last time you saw a hack job like Android on an Iphone with RIM? Answer: Never. Jailbroken iOS4 in less than 24 hours. Well done Apple…

Apple excels at different things. Their media and image/video rendering is second to none. They improved the screen dramatically with the fourth iPhone. Past that, it really didnt add much (though they FINALLY fixed their battery issue apparently).

iPhone = media first, everything else second
BlackBerry = security and functionality first, everything else second
Android = form, then function, then security

      • josiah

Let me ask you this MR. SECURITY. When was the last time a private person’s I-phone or Android information was electronically intercepted? ………………………………………………………………………I’M waiting.

That’s right never. You “BB means security” people are a joke. First its branding. And you are doing nothing more than repeating marketing w/o the first clue as to what it means to you or your information. Like 99+% of BB users I’m sure that most of the security features in your handset are disabled. Second, the main security feature of a BB, giving the BES administrator control is easily worked around by booting into safe mode and using a 3rd party app that remove the policy. So long security. And for the casual user, see point 1 above; 256 bit secure push e-mail is like getting in a tank to drive through Ames, IO because’ “there are terrorists out there who want to kill Americans”.

      • Tdot34

The average user isn’t concerned with security. The corporate customers are the ones most concerned with security. Which is why RIM has about 95% of corporate customers. Email encryption and information encryption is vital for companies. If the phone gets lost somewhere they don’t want company information ending up in the wrong hands. Which is why pretty much all major companies refuse to let employees use iPhones for company use.

      • BESAdmin

WTF are you talking about? I’ve been around Blackberries a long time and there is no “Safe Mode” you mean java loader? Sure there are methods to remove a BES pushed policy but you also can’t have any service books from said BES so in a sense you have zero corporate access.

RIM has the most independant security certifications out there – do some research next time you try to knock the one thing RIM just owns over every other mobile vendor.

        I have nothing disabled

        - password enforced (complex)
        - timeout enforced (10 minutes)
        - device level encryption
        - browser filtered
        - SMS logged
        - No apps download (we push anything needed)

Apple / Android can’t provide half of them and when they can they are easily broken. When either of them gets FIPS certified let me know.

  • josiah

First I’m a BB user and only a BB user. 7+ years and counting.

Next – BB is missing more- WAY MORE than just a better web browser. Only a real ‘light weight’ BB user would not understand or be frustrated by its shortcomings which have not been addressed for 7+ years.

E-mail is truncated. E-mail is not full HTML. Artificial caps on D/L and upload size. Ring tones and alerts do not play through wired or BT headsets. No full screen caller ID. # years ago IOS had 8 gigs for storing and running apps and 125 megs of RAM. Nothing RIM has now or has in the pipeline is close. So 3rd party development is stunted and slow. NFS is a perfect example. 30+ megs on I-phone, 3+ on S2. Only 2 BB devices even have Open GLES. None have a compass. Cut and paste on any touchscreen BB is a nightmare!

I could go on, but since I’m talking to fanboys rather than real hardcore BB users its a waste of time. When you NEED to have your BB with you and have only your BB with you for 16+ hours a day, 6-7 days a week, then tell me how unnecessary all these things are. If you can run to your PC to watch HULU every day or every few hours, you don’t have a clue what a true BB life and experience is.

    • Sprinter

“Ring tones and alerts do not play through wired or BT headsets.”

Take off the BT when you’re not talking on the phone. Problem solved + you won’t look like a douche.

      • James

        What about when he’s driving?

      • Sprinter

If you’re “Mr. So Busy that I can’t Stand to be Away from My Bluetooth” then you should have a car that can connect to your berry, otherwise, you’re just a poser. And, if you’re walking with a Bluetooth, then you are beyond help. (Regardless of what you and your twat friends think.) Keep poppin’ that collar, tool.

And, no. Designer Bluetooths don’t make it any more acceptable.

      • http://www.sportstimeclocks.com Marc

You don’t need to know the alerts when you are driving…keep your eyes on the road!

    • matt

You hate BB so much that you’ve been using it for 7 years?

  • Vinnyjr

Josiah hit the nail on the head. Not impressed at all. The entire look of this OS is ugly not to mention slow as hell. Still low memory, no one speaks of a processor, probably something cheap and slow, I’m very much let down over all this build up and basicly nothing.

    • matt

      Josiah is a d-bag.

  • Jake

The more I see of the “new” phones RIM has to offer, the more I can’t wait for July, when I’m finally eligible to upgrade to a Droid Incredible, Moto Droid 2 or Moto Shadow on Verizon (if they’re out by then).

It’s almost as if RIM is not even trying to keep its customers anymore. Apple for all of Steve’s idiotic nannying on what can and cannot go on the phone, at least has a phone that makes you want to buy it (if only it came to Verizon), same goes with Android, both generate buzz and make you want to try them. RIM, seems to be heading the way of Palm (prior to WebOS). I hope that by the time they figure out that Apple and Android are eating their lunch, it won’t be too late for them to reinvent themselves.

    • B

Verizon BLOWS I know I have been with them when they were air touch. Can’t say going to AT&T will be much better but at least they have the best phone on the planet.(my opinion) I base that off of spec’s of the top smartphones

  • Scorp

OS 6 stinks and any device it will be on will stink as well. RIM sucks nowadays.

    • B

I will second that can’t wait until June 24 Iphone 4 baby. Finally dumping Blackberry YES

  • Pat

So do folks on here disparage RIM because they’re really concerned about the direction of BlackBerry, or have they become attached to something that hasn’t reciprocated on their committment and they’re subsequently looking for an outlet? Troll elsewhere.

  • qwerty
    • http://www.sportstimeclocks.com Marc

      Agreed! 114,000 times over!!!

  • Jake

When are you all going to realize that most Blackberry users that value their Blackberries for their speed, reliability, and messaging abilities, don’t give a rat’s a** about how “pretty” icons look and how “aesthetically pleasing” an OS is? There is nothing wrong with a nice design, but beautification of the Blackberry OS is something that I have neither the energy or will to b***** about.
