T-Mobile making every phone free on June 19th

Still scratching your head trying to figure out what T-Mobile has cooking for June 19th? Well scratch no more. TmoNews is reporting that on that day, every single phone T-Mobile has in its line-up will be available for free. Their proof? A two page script for a TV commercial that is expected to be on heavy rotation over the next week and a bit. As with any offer this tantalizing there is a catch, but in this case it’s not all that bad. All you need to do get some free phones is sign up for a family plan. Anyone planning on treating their Pa (and yourself, naturally) to a new phone the day before Father’s Day?

At&t has the worst coverage proven by a 3rd party co. just last qtr. T-mobile does have better coverage than At&t. Iphone is soooo over rated!! The my-touch slide is a bad ass phone and does amazing things with the genies button!! any dumb ass that can do simple math can see that the even more plus plans are the best value around!! T mobile does have the BEST customer service ranked!! the next best wireless co. to Tmobile is Verizon but they give you no value what so ever! Their flex pay plan is only for people with poor credit.

I just got a Mytouch Slide for my wife and it is an AWESOME phone. I live in L.A. and reception is great and HSPA is blazing fast (faster than Sprint 4G, and WAY faster than Verizon and AT&T). I had an iPhone and went back to Blackberry on T-Mobile because AT&T constantly dropped calls and couldn’t get a signal at the office. The Slide runs Android 2.1, will be upgraded to Froyo soon, has the best Android physical keyboard (much better than the Droid and Cliq), and has no lag whatsoever. I thought not having a Snapdragon would be an issue, but it is not noticeable. Oh, and by the way, I have unlimited phone, data and text for $85/month. I’ll probably wait for the Galaxy S and see if I can do without a physical keyboard. If not, I’ll probably go with a Mytouch Slide myself.

OK, I need to respond to some of the “negative” comments regarding the 19th. People that say this is lame, or they are disappointed…think about this: When is the last time ANY other carrier offered ALL FREE PHONES with an INSTANT rebate, on ANY device you want? NONE OF THEM.

So many people are complaining about it, because they got their hopes up for something they thought it would be, and it wasn’t what they “wanted” it to be. But if you think about it…it is a pretty big deal. I mean even on a 2-year contract, if you get a 3-line family plan, you would normally pay $600 for 3 HD2’s. But on this day, you can get them for FREE? That’s a $600 instant savings, AND T-Mobile is basically paying YOU to activate the phones.

People can jump ship because they are disappointed, but T-Mobile is the ONLY carrier to offer anything like this…EVER.

T-Mobile was the first US National carrier to allow customers to finance phones with no interest.

T-Mobile was the first US National carrier to allow NO CONTRACT rate plans.

T-Mobile was the FIRST US carrier to launch Android.

T-Mobile’s network was rated as high as Verizon’s network, by Consumer Reports

T-Mobile has come a long way. So for those that are upset or disappointed in this announcement…think about the points I made. Just because it’s not what you WANTED it to be or THOUGHT it would be….doesn’t mean it’s a BAD move for T-Mobile…because last I checked, T-Mobile is the ONLY one that has offered anything like this.

T-Mobile has half the subscribers of the big 2 and is bleeding customers, not to mention has half the network…. so naturally, like Sprint they are selling the farm.

But good for them, whatever helps I suppose. #1 Priority for Cell phone companies is Churn, and this hopefully helps them as competition is good for the consumer

You don’t know what bleeding is. Bleeding is losing millions of dollars and customers like Sprint

What about those of us already on TMO? I have 4 lines to upgrade. Would like some slides and 9700′s. Anyone know?

    • obisununome

Call or go into your local store. That way you will know for sure. If you have a full upgrade I would assume yes, since you would be extending your contract on 4 lines.

I love T-Mobile, and it would take a HUGE issue with them to make me switch to any other carrier. I’ve been with them since 2004 because the rate plans and customer service are the best! The very day that the new plans came out, I was in the local store, getting my wife a new MyTouch 3G (and switching to the Even More Plus plan). She loves her phone too. I would really like to get a new phone myself, and agree that T-Mobile’s phone selection isn’t very good, but I would definitely go with the Touch Pro2 if I could afford it. Unfortunately, the fact that I am already on a family plan means that I will probably not be able to take advantage of this incredible deal on the 19th… :(

  • obisununome

Bravo, Bravo, they had to do this, with the incredible, Iphone 4, and evo all making waves, they had to do something drastic, with is a brilliant marketing move, not only will it extend existing contracts, but it will lure new customers to them as well. This will take business away from every carrier.

I’m definitely jumping ship from AT&T. Been looking for a reason to go Android from my iPhone. I’m jailbroken and unlocked so I can do all the stuff you’re not supposed to (tether, skype on 3G before you were allowed to, download videos, etc) but all the work to get features I should have been given? Only to be locked to a shitty network?

Not any more! My unlocked iPhone is worth several hundred dollars and so is my wifes! Plus my plan with T-Mobz will be at least $40 less a month!

      YAY T-Mobile!

  • Murph

billshrink.com just proved that TMO is still the better value.
    They continue to impress me.

If I could only get a Nexus One upgrade with family plans.

I have had t-mobile starting back in the voicestream days. (When they where the only gsm network in Milwaukee and i already bought my sony ericsson t68i). Coverage was always iffy out in the suburban areas and non existent out in the rural parts when i first got them. Within the past 2-3 years, i can not think of many areas i go to without coverage. The few areas i go to without service, att doesn’t even provide coverage! (Avon, IL and St. augustine IL).

Fast, constant 3g speeds, expanding 3g and edge network, (Galesburg, IL was just bumped up to edge from gprs! sad, but still an improvement vs. leaving it alone). and great prices. I highly recommend t-mobile for anybody in the chicago, tampa, and milwaukee areas.

Happy Juneteenth Everybody! Freeing everybody on June 19th isn’t recent idea, as it is the date that the 13th Amendment was enacted freeing all slaves after the Civil War. 36 States recognize it as an observed holiday (sort of like flag day). Is T-mobile tying this promotion to Juneteenth?

There’s always a catch and what about if you’re an existing customer. Personally, if I thought I could have the HD2 free; I’d order it; but what about those of us with grandfathered Internet plans like T-Mobile Wed aka Unlimited T-Zones. The article says, only a family plan, but this device requires the Unlimited Web for Smart Phones at $24.99, not $5.99. The devil is always in the details.

  • Bill

We all need to pay attention to what AT&T which recently reverted to metered data; not unlimited data. You can say what you want about each of these companies but they do tend to flatter and mimic each other. The one negative in regards to 3G and 4G is they each will requre more and more data capability something AT&T has had issues in reqards to their capacity to handle.

Had ATT wireless for over 20 years, first it was called SW Bell, then Cingular and finally ATT. Each change seemed to degrade service more. The TMobile Father’s day special finally broke my bond with ATT and I’m so happy! Got a Mytouch Slide, love it! Got the rest of the family TMobile…bye bye ATT, I won’t miss you a bit;…and WHERE is my check for the credit balance I carried for years because of your lousy accounting and billing?
