Software

Just a heads up for all of you who have been anxiously waiting in your fallout shelters for Adobe to patch that nasty zero-day exploit. Adobe has announced that tomorrow it will be dishing out an update that should resolve the matter where Flash is concerned. As for Acrobat and Reader, the two other Adobe products that are vulnerable, both will have their quarterly security date bumped up by two weeks meaning that this whole mess should be resolved by the 29th of June.

This is good. Glad to see Adobe on top of it.

      “On top of it?”

On top of it would’ve been proactively auditing their pile of shit software to avoid problems like this.

I’m not a Flash-hater like Mr. Jobs, but I do have a strong distaste for it due to:
      (a) Adobe’s apparent lack of concern for security
      (b) the overwhelming amount of BAD or generally “misbehaved” Flash content on the web

I was rooting for SVG and dynamically scripted HTML elements long before Youtube got popular…

Well it was broadcast publicly last week. Now everybody and their sister knows about the security issue. They seem to have been incentivized to move faster. Lets hope this becomes a part of their DNA to address problems like this much faster from now on.

But you are right that they should have addressed many problems a long time ago.

The fact that the potential exploit exists has been made known, but no details we’re given on how to actually execute said exploit.

Pair that with the fact that there’s zero reported cases of an actual “in the wild” exploit taking place and you see that this is a non-issue.

Yeah, right. As if the people who are out there putting exploits into sites haven’t figured out how to use it and haven’t been using this to spread malware all week? You really believe that? They’ve probably even known about this hole for longer than that and have been using it for who knows how long.
