There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY this accurate!! Between authorized dealers and Sprint Corporate stores there are 20,000 retailers nationwide, not to mention online sales and telesales. Most stores sold out, and most stores had anywhere from 30 all the way up to 150+ devices in a lot of the bigger stores, this isn’t even including telesales and Sprint.com. You’re trying to tell me that each store averaged 10 EVO sales? WITHOUT TELESALES AND SPRINT.COM?!! B.S.!!! Not to mention stores got second shipments on Saturday after they sold out! What bogus number, who came up with this?
Bunifa@SprintPOS
You really think they surpassed or even came close to the iPhone in opening week sales and didn’t say anything about it?
Randy
Actually…a few apps in the android market recorded 600,000+ application downloads from EVO devices by Saturday….
the Evo sold three times the amount of that the Palm pre and Samsung instinct sold during their first three days at retail combined, on Friday alone
That means the SOLD at least 579,000 on Friday alone you morons
me
“We originally reported that the total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined. We inadvertently erred in the comparison. The total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.”
LOL
Jaime
Ur retarded. You think every store got 30 units, 30 to 150 is only in direct retailers and indirects might have gotten a handful.
neo
I can’t believe the Palm Pre sold more on opening weekend, 250,000 to be exact than the EVO. Maybe it was the name that fucked it up, or Android. Yeah it was gAyNDROID.

As usual you are pulling data out of your ass (where it belongs).

This post has me dying! I’m still recovering from the EVO release day! All activations systems crashed & it took 45 minutes to get through to CS. I nearly had to guys get into a fight over the last non-presale! 300,000 sounds about accurte if you do the ballpark math.
It floors me how tech junkies ALWAYS jump on the first release! We had a 30% return rate on the Incredible, which will be shot to hell when the HTC Scirpion is released.
Something that is making me wonder . . . if all the anti-Apple people are right, why isn’t HTC stock rising like Apple’s. I mean, you guys are basically calling Steve Jobs an idiot, yet Apple maintains proprietary grandeur. Hmmm . . . curious ; )

Perhaps because HTC makes phones and Apple makes a SHIT TON MORE STUFF, including both hardware and software.
And the profit margin on a computer (that they pay no one for licensing of OS since they own it) is higher than on a cell phone (an extra cost are the paid licenses like WinMo and Symbian/S60).
Apple has been on the scene longer and has an excellent marketing/advertising department. HTC hasn’t started advertising til recently with their “HTC and YOU ” commercials. “Quietly brilliant” sounds like an accurate slogan/mantra for HTC.
People don’t even know that HTC even made phones for other companies like the Sony Xperia X1 and Palm Pro. Even their smartphones pre-2008 were called “Cingular xxxx” or “VZ xxxx” – carrier name and model number.
I’m not saying HTC would have a higher stock if they advertised more (and earlier), but I’m saying the consumer awareness of Apple is probably much higher than that of HTC – people call mp3 players “iPods” as a general name for PMPs. Apple has joined Band-Aid, Kleenex, and Coca Cola as a “master brand” – for products that cost MUCH MORE!

Lmao…. People are all excited showing off their 4G evo! Yet more than half of them are waiting for 4G! Hahahahah….. Have gun with ur EVO, with half a$$ 4G!

Hey dumbass. Sprint’s 3G speeds in Los Angeles is Faster than both AT&T’s (drop you ass in the middle of a call), and Verizon data. I do have my apple 3GS and the EVO, and let me tell you brother, there’s no comparison. And while the debate about flash continues, the EVO has flash and is flash capable. So having said all that, you dont like Sprint, dont buy sprint. Keep paying full price for partial service with AT&T.

I think if more people read reviews of EVO they wouldn’t be so high on it. The 10 dollar wimax monthly charge, even though most people aren’t in wimax areas (there aren’t that many of them folks), the 70 for voice / data, oh and “I can make it a hotspot!!!” yah for 30 more dollars a month you can make it a hotspot. Let’s add in terrible battery time and the fact that it heats up like a waffle iron … subpar video and picture quality, the list just keeps on coming.
Heh good luck evo fanbois
Kevin
The reviews for the EVOare great if you check out gizmodo, PC world, or the multitude of other reviews. Etrade had an article reporting gross sales of 100,000 new subscribers with EVO’s and 220,000 sales to existing customers, which is just June 4th, not to mention what the redt of the weekend pulled.
@Adam— THe video and picture quality are both great if you click on the HQ (High Quality) button. Otherwise it is by default on the lowest setting to ensure the highest speeds. It also has a 1 ggh processor, 1 gig of ROM, and 1 gig of RAM. It’s fast, to say the least.
And you’re complaining about the price? Really? A smart phone on Verizon with 450 minutes (which does not include ANYTIME ANY MOBILE) is 39.99 for the talk time, $20 for unlimited text, $29.99 for the data, and 9.99 for VZ navigator (SPrint includes GPS for free). A grand total of $99.98. So, the EVO still comes in at $20 less at $79.99 with infinitely more minutes (ANYTIME ANY MOBILE), not to mention that Verizon’s nights start at 9PM as opposed to Sprint’s 7PM.
Sprint’s prices are even more salient as AT&T just slammed the IPHONE limit down to 2 gigabytes of data usage per month for $25. The $10 EVO fee makes it unlimited, no cap at all.
noReally
what a difference a week makes, now it turns out the evo is falling apart and is a real hunk of junk, and the 10 evo fee is BS because only 1% of the population even has 4G and EVERYONE pays the fee, oh and don’t forget the 30 dollars to make it a hotspot haha.
also AT&T still has the 30 dollar unlimited plan, do your homework fanboi

Wow, lots of touchy fan-boys here with an axe to grind. The mainstream just want’s to know how the sales are going, hickups in inventory and activations, and general impression of the handsets. You Apple kids know that no matter what you say, you won’t be able to get anyone to convert from Android, and vis versa, yes?
noReally
maybe you should update this story to include the real number which is closer to 65K
