HP set to unveil printers for the "iPhone age"

According to the New York Times, HP will this week introduce a new series of web-connected printers that are designed for life in the “iPhone age.” Different from its existing line of printers, the new printers will contain something unique — its own email address. The entire idea behind the new printers is simple. Instead of having having people install special applications to their smartphone to print files, all they need to do is email the file to their printer. It sounds incredibly novel, but companies such as Google believe they have a chance and and have partnered with HP to allow for easy printing of Google Docs and Calendar. Other companies will support the new printers with a store known as the ePrintCenter. The printers are expected to range in price from $99 to $400 and will be fitted with touchscreen panels.

I can just see the penis enlargement fliers printing non-stop when spammers get a hold of the printer’s email.

Frankly, HP doesn’t give a shxt. Their goal is sell as much genuine printing supplies as possible.

genuine as in minute amount of ink, and a chip that allows only 100 pages a cartridge.

Many have mentioned “whitelists” as being the key to stopping SPAM.

Hmmm…anyone ever get a SPAM email pretending to come from someone innocent?

I purchased a HP Multifunction in March 2009. It already had wireless networking/printing and Bluetooth.

No touchscreen, but I don’t really need that when you can bluetooth pictures to the printer already after previewing on the phone.

Finally! I think this is an excellent idea. I’ve always thought printers were unnecessarily complex sometimes.

Any idea of security here? Presumably, there will be some. A password as the subject, perhaps?

Sounds like the beginning of the end for faxing.

It took HP this long to figure out that people didn’t need 8 billion bloatware programs just to use their printer?

    No more:

    HP photo suite
    HP photo organizer
    HP album
    HP printer manager
    HP file organizer…

Damn it, all I want to do is print something….

Dam I hate that HP bloatware… Shit is always updating and everything is “required” for the printer to work.. I hope HP keeps Palm as far away as possble because when M$ bout Rare and Danger we all see how that worked out..
