Services

Yelp-OpenTable

Yelp, “an online urban city guide that helps people find cool places to eat, shop, drink, relax and play,” announced that is has partnered with online restaurant reservation company OpenTable to provide added functionality to its website. The new alliance will allow registered Yelp users to make restaurant reservations directly from within Yelp.com. According to the NY Times, the reservation feature will, “begin in North America and will cover about 11,000 restaurants,” and that the feature “could come to international restaurants at a later date.” No details were given about when/if the company plans to integrate the OpenTable reservation feature into its Yelp mobile applications. We’re curious, how many of you out there actually use Yelp?

Lots of places in NYC give discounts if they see you gave a good rating on Yelp. So yes a lot of people in NYC use it.

Use yelp a lot when I’m gonna go “try out” a new place. 3 star avg rating? Passing lol. It may be useless for those in the boonies but for big cities it helps tremendously…although with the recent review extortions it’s getting kinda shady

I use Yelp alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the time. I don’t eat at a restaurant without checking it out on Yelp first.

Someday you should learn to think for yourself than relying on a bunch of tards doing it for you.

Yelp is my go-to tool for checking out restaurants in new areas or for new restaurants in old areas. I haven’t found another site as helpful or easy to use.

Wondering if anyone in Scottsdale Az has any thoughts on Mabel’s on Main? Had a very nice night there and was treated amazingly well. Even the terrifying doorman took the time to memorize my name from checking my I.D. and turned out to be a very charming man. A nice dinner/lounge with a very cool atmosphere. Great food and classic cocktails with a unique atmosphere in a town full of douche bag bars.

Yelp reviewers might be the biggest group of clueless morons ever gathered at one Internet site.

OpenTable has the restaurants in a very sweet situation. They are a monopoly with no competition. If a restaurant leaves OpenTable in SF then 30% – 35% of their traffic is gone. So until the restaurants are open to alternatives OpenTable will continue to make a fortune. UrbanSpoon’s pricing is going down the same path as OpenTable with better technology so I don’t see restaurants jumping ship. Throwing everything on an iPad is certainly cooler but touch screen has been around for years in the restaurant world. I have heard this firsthand from restaurant owners.
