Mac mini refresh just around the bend?

Rumor

mac-mini-refresh

If you or anyone you know were planning on picking up a Mac mini over the weekend (don’t laugh, we’re serious), you might want to hold off because AppleInsider has it on good authority that the teensy weensy computer rig is due for a refresh in the coming weeks. AI is reporting that multiple independent sources who order Mac minis in large quantities were either instructed to order only what is urgently needed or wait a few weeks. One educational institution had its order fulfilment estimate changed from several days to June 14th. Two months ago AI reported that prototype Mac mini’s spotted by Apple employees had the DVI port swapped out for a HDMI port and the inclusion of NVIDIA’s MPC89 chipset. The last Mac mini refresh took pace last in October.

Souped up Apple TV? Could be cool.

Considering the Mac Mini came BEFORE the Apple TV…

This would make sense, get the new nvidia chipsets in it that they’ve shoved in everything else, jam in a HDMI port and bundle in the new remote and then scrap the apple tv ;)

it’s funny cuz i’ve actually been thinking of getting a mac mini to add to my entertainment system. i hope u guys are right about the HDMI port. that’s one of the reasons why i haven’t got one yet.

Now this isn’t looking too bad, and could be a nice little living room device with the HDMI port.

I have been holding my breath since March when the rumor of the hdmi-mac mini first came out. Now I can exhale! God I hope this turns out to be true!

So awesome Apple waited this long to add HDMI to anything. Good god, who knows, one day they might just have that blu-ray thingy too.

What’s wrong with the Mini? I small and compact and if you use a Mac and PC with a KVM switch, it’s perfect.

Of course. It is the low-end iPhone development platform.

Will definitely pick up a new mac mini for my home theater. Now I’ll NEVER get off the couch!

I bought an “early-2009″ mac mini, I am able to play steam for mac games smoothly.. I have my mini hooked up to my HD plasma, using a “dvi-to-hdmi” adapter… easy.

Only issue I have is the lack of “mic jack”… the line in thingie is useless to me :(

I don’t know what the big deal is with a HDMI port since I have been using a low cost DVI-HDMI cable with my Mac Mini and 1080p HDTVs since March 2009. Monoprice also sells the Mini Displayport Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter that utilizes the power of USB to combine the benefits of Mini-DisplayPort video with USB’s digitally synthesized audio and combines them into a single, convenient HDMI signal.
