AT&T to allow iPad owners in waiting to purchase unlimited data before June 7th

Services

ipad-3g

All of the kicking and screaming over AT&T’s decision to drop its $30 unlimited data has paid off for iPad 3G owners in waiting. Today AT&T put the word out through its Facebook that anyone who places an order for an iPad before  June 7th will be able to sign up for the $30 unlimited data plan. This means that even if your iPad has yet to ship from one of Apple’s factories in China on or after June 7th, you’ll be able to avoid being stuck with the $25 2GB plan.

So, ATT will get a rush of people buying the iPad to meet he unlimited data deadline and make a killing… talk about marketing genius as far getting people who are on the fene about buying one or not.

    • Cold Dead Fingers

What? 3G iPads ship 7-10 days from today………no one would make it if they wanted to, ipad’s are already selling like crazy. I think in this case they were just informing the deadline in which iPads would lose the unlimited option, that’s it.

  • James

Still shitty! How can I stream youtube videos without worrying about overages now if i bought my ipad next week.

    • steve

I would worry more about buying music. When I had my iPhone, I would purchase most of my music via the phone.

    • yourmom

      Use wifi then..LOL.

AT&T just keeps ongoing lower and lower instead of offering better call quality they jook the customer (ME) into signing up for a $30 unlimited plan that is bound in my contract and jst rip it to shreds jst when they feel like it yet if i wanna back out on a agreement i have to pay more than what it cost for me to sign up with them damn communists!! oh well verizon here i come and im shure there will be more to follow in my footsteps……

God damn, take an English class. That was hard to read!

      • Versed

Not only he needs a chill pill, the new plans DON’T effect existing customers.

    • Blog Retards 4 Life

You are obviously not even an iPad user. My guess is you are retarded. If you actually knew anything, you would know that (1) there are NO contracts when it comes to iPad, and (2) AT&T doesn’t sell iPad.

      Another blog dink….

  • lostwhiteboyy

Ya know what kills me is by them doing this they know they are wrong. This is AT

  • Lostwhiteboyy

My whole post did not post. As I was saying AT&T’s screwed up logic is. Hey hurry up and buy the ipad 3g to get unlimited data or bend over and let us have at your wallet.

    • Blog Retards 4 Life

Or maybe legally they are bound, and (god forbid) its the right thing to do.

Stop your crying and do the dishes so you can watch Jeopardy with your parents.

Lol… you people are never satisfied, are you?

If you cancel your unlimited for even one month after June 7th your only option are the new plans, right??????

    • richsadams

That’s what I would like to know. The whole promotional concept behind the unlimited plan was that you could sign up whenever you needed it and cancel whenever you wanted to.

My instincts tell me that it won’t work that way going forward though. Even if you buy a month of unlimited service today, once you cancel it won’t ever be available again. If so, that still sucks!

    • Gumby

That is how I understand this. I just logged onto our account and was given an option to either continue the service for $30 unlimited per month or discontinue and then too bad for the subsequent months when I choose to sign back up because that option was being discontinued. I appreciate that the pad can access a wifi connection but we purchased the pad with 3G capabilities because we thought that $30 unlimited per month on our time line was the deal of the day. I’m pissed but what can I do? We have ATT service @ our house for our phone, internet access and television service. I am beginning to truly hate this company. They are masters at dangling attractive carrots in the consumers face and then once they have you hooked, they raise their prices on their services. Sure, we can go somewhere else but the hassle is no picnic. I’m disgusted. Thank goodness my mobile phone service is with Verizon.

  • Sprinter

The thing with the unlimited plans on any carrier is that they are unlimited 3G. Once LTE and Wimax (Sprint is already charging $10/month for 4G), we’ll all be forced into more expensive tiered plans. Still, we might as well enjoy our good plans while they still exist.

  • Eric

    @Sprinter

As long as you never switch from unlimited you are suppose to be able to keep it even after getting a new phone. New customers are getting screwed tho!

    • Sprinter

You could be right, but that not how it’s been in the past.

That first gen iPhone had a $20 2G data plan, when 3G came it was upped to $30. You could keep your $20 2G plan if you wanted, but when you upgraded to an iPhone 3G you had to upgrade your plan to the $30 3G plan as well. I wouldn’t be at all shocked when the next, next iPhone (and other 4G phones) come out that support LTE, AT&T comes out with an LTE/4G data plan that cost more than the current unlimited 3G data plan available right now.

Actually, I remember thinking this same thing when Verizon began giving away free 3G Hotspot with Palm Pres. It’s cool for now, but it’s not forever.

This article is a croc of $&!+, i contacted AT&T and they no nothing of this deal

  • jonathan

I wonder if the Chinese knockoff of the Ipad called the iPed will work here. for roughly a third of the cost of Apple’s iPad it’s selling like hotcakes in smaller Asian countries.

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

  • Loser Finder

People actually buy the iFad? I saw one once, and I pointed and laughed.

  • capt

just jailbreak the ipad and screw AT

  • Confused

I too contacted ATT and they knew nothing of this. Ipad will be here on the 18th. But how am I supposed to be grandfathered on unlimited. The rep said she heard the rumor. But they dont know of anyway of selling me the ipad unlimited plan until after I receive it. ?????

  • James

ATT does not provide the plans, it is provided via the Ipad like iTunes sign up for the iPhone. ATT support remains clueless with regard to most of these plans,,,

  • Barney Stinson

I was just on the phone with a very helpful ATT rep. She stated that in their system, there is no mention of the iPad within the new data plan system. It is only for post-paid services, and not pre-paid like the iPad according to her.

    • Barney Stinson

      I retract my comment…

“For new iPad customers, the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan. iPad customers will continue to pre-pay for their wireless data plan and no contract is required. Existing iPad customers who have the $29.99 per month unlimited plan are not required to change their plans.”

  • RG

Unl data plan for iPad has been extended indefinitely. This is iPad only.
