myTouch 3G Slide available through T-Mobile

If you’re and Android user on T-Mobile, then we probably don’t need to remind you of this, but for everyone else, the myTouch 3G Slide is available as of today. A decent handset by all accounts, there is but one major problem with it – it’s priced at $179.99 with an Even More plan with 2-year contract or $429.99 outright with Even More Plus. Yes, you certainly do contract-free financing provided you pledge to pay $21.50 per month over 20 months, but no matter how you slice it, you’re still going to be paying top dollar for something that really doesn’t command it.

at least your data is truly unlimited. At&t is a joke.

$429!?!, that’s even worse than the $400 that I’d feared, way too much money for a phone with these specs.

I’ve been itching to get a phone to replace my G1 but I guess I’ll have to continue to wait because I can’t justify that much for a phone that’s middle of the road at best.

      How about you change carriers?

    • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

Still on contract until October, may just unlock the phones and switch to AT&T, get very good discounts through my work.

Hopefully the situation will change between now and then, we have been with T-Mobile for almost 10 years and in general have been very happy with them.

Then you should sign the contract and pay $179.
I looked into T-mobile’s Non-contract pricing and plans and it actually works out cheaper every time to go without a contract and pay the extra. $429-$179= $250. The difference in plans can be up to $20/mo. So in 1yr that is $240 in savings and two years $480, which is less than $250 extra you are paying for the phone. So screw the contact pricing, especially since they allow you to finance the phone over 20 months, reducing your up front out of pocket costs.

Yeah I agree the contract pricing now is for people who like to play the lottery, but back in October 08 when I got the G1 there was no Even More Plus pricing so I was saving money by going back on contract, been off contract most of the time we’ve been with T-Mobile though.

Was planning on switching to Even More Plus once the contract ran out (wasn’t worth it to pay the per-line penalty to do it early) and pick up a 2nd android phone for my wife to replace her POS Motorola ACTV.

You can pick this up at Walmart for either 129.99/139.99 with a two year contract…

  • apokalupsis

Will wait a year when my contract is up before I replace my G1..this isn’t worth it.

This phones runs 100% better then what the so called “specs” rate it. We have had this phone in our house for about 3 weeks and to be honest its the most impressive and responsive android phone i have used. Thats including the incredible which i took back from vzw because the screen was to small. I do agree it is priced to high i would have made it $100 after rebate but hey im no expert.

    • Chris

The Incredible’s screen was too small for you so you went with the smaller screen on the myTouch Slide? Color me baffled.

All of T-mobile’s phones are starting to look the same

  • TmoHax

Walmart is currently selling it for 148.88 on an upgrade or new contract

I was going to get the slide today, however since I recently returned my cliq xt, they did not reverse my partial upgrade, which was 3 days ago, this is the 2nd time they did this to me, she told me all I can do is order it, or pay the full price, to me its not worth it, and she had an attitude problem, I said” forget it, I will get the Evo Friday, and I will, tmobile has good service, but its true there phones are very similar with not much differentiation, Sprint will always have higher end phones, and thats what I like, tmobiles demographic are people who do not know specs, or about Android, thats who they cater to, which is fine, but after 3 years, I just have not seen anything to make me get really excited, good luck to all the tmobiler’s

ha ha are u the guy whining on youtube lol?.

  • nicknowsky

Honestly before any of you guys think about getting this or even say its a great phone, pump your brakes!

It just a basic Mytouch 3G with a keyboard and more RAM! the only worth while feature is the new Espresso Sense UI, but if u wait, T-Mobile is upgrading the original myTouch to the same Android 2.1 espresso OS. And actually T-Mobile is now offering a deal, if you buy 1 regular myTouch 3G, you get 1 free!!

Dont get this phone, the 528MHz processors are strictly 1st generation, way to slow.

    • nicknowsky

Don’t listen to that guy above, the phone doesn’t exced the performance of its specs. It way to basic. My original myTouch rooted with a 10MB RAM hack runs just as fast. Bad deal, im upset T-Mobile is pushing this phones instead of something that will actually be usable by the end of the year. Go with a NEXUS ONE, u get a real Android Superphone!!

  • behold2dude

Call customer care, say something like “i really love tmo and don’t wanna leave but 429 is too much” can you give me a better deal? And you may get it for $379…I may use the recent behold2 situation as my boohoo story :) Id say $379 is ok for this phone.

  • behold2dude

Btw, this phone is a generation ahead of the reg mytouch. It has a 600mhz processor that compares much closer to the nexus one than the old 528mhz phones. It’s built with 2.1 and made to support 2.2 and higher whereas the reg mytouch may stutter a bit with these updates.

    • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

Sorry the Nexus One is a 1Ghz CPU I’d say hat 600Mhz is a whole lot closer to 528Mhz than it is to 1Ghz

  • Nokia N900

    Review on Engadget.

  • Jim

I thought about getting this phone, but decided against it for the following reasons:
The processor is too slow. Yes, they upped it from 528MHz to 600MHZ. You can’t compare it with the Moto Droid or Nexus One though, because it’s a different processor. Clock for clock, the G1/MyTouch processors are about half as fast.
Also, what were they thinking not including a high-res screen?
I’d been with TMo for 8 years, but I gave up on waiting and switched to VZW and got the Moto Droid. Yeah, the Slide has twice the RAM, but the Droid still has plenty and I wanted the faster processor and higher res screen.

You guys are tools. What doesn’t command the price? Why don’t you rename the site “We hate T-Mobile” what a bunch of big 3 fanboys. Your posts are so predictable. If T-Mobile came out with an iPhone 4, you would shit on them. While your site is informative, it is bias beyond belief. I’m sure you all have big red dildos in your desks

    • Jim

This site is slanted toward the iPhone more often than not, but honestly I haven’t seen much TMo bias. I was looking at getting the Slide, but for the same price I got a Moto Droid on Verizon, which has a better CPU and screen (I wanted a high res screen). Verizon is more expensive, but they’ve got some kick ass phones and their 3G network is huge. It was still a hard decision…but TMo just can’t keep up lately.
