It’s not surprising since we told you this would be the case, but today Canada’s Rogers Wireless today announced the immediate availability of the BlackBerry Pearl 3G and Acer Liquid e. While they’re both obviously quite different handsets in that the Liquid e runs Android 2.1 and that the Pearl 3G is, well, a BlackBerry, both are available for $49.99 on contract and $424.99 off. The question is: Do you prefer a BlackBerry with SureType keypad and 3.2 megapixel camera, or Snapdragon-powered Android smartphone with a 5 megapixel camera? Decisions, decisions.

    Android.

I’m all about the Blackberry. Google has put out an operating system that sure can run a plethora of apps but it feels by no means to be a polished OS. I had the Incredible for a week before I took it back. The guys at the store told me that the first thing I need to do is replace the SMS app and add a taskiller. By no means polished.

I’ve got an Incredible. No SMS replacement. No task killers. Runs rings around any BB I’ve ever used. That’s ok though. There are people that like the Jitterbug too. You should look into that one. It’s not so ‘newfangled’.

I would go for Android, but I have had unpleasant experience with Acer laptops. I would think twice.

*note: Bell and Telus are selling the same blackberry 9100 for 325CAD and 350CAD respectively. Rogers, you suck!

Android is growing exponentially but seems people spend more time modding their phones then making actual phone calls

    Acer, no thanks.

I have the Liquid A1 and it is a very good phone. And yes alot of people mod their phones (including myself). What is your point?

It is a polished OS (runs smoothly for the most part), just very dependent on apps (don’t see the big deal in downloading an SMS app or replacement launcher or replacement keyboard. Infact, that is one of the things I love about it. How easily customizable it is but to each their own). A task killer is NOT necessary as Android kills unused apps on its own (similar to Linux).

I saw a guy with a Blackberry Pearl once. He had on high heels and carried a ‘satchel’.

    Blackberry pearl 100%

most difficult phone to use I’ve ever hard.

    BUT

    1) you can drop the @#$ out of it and it’s fine
    2) it fits PERFECTLY in the 5th pocket in your jeans that has absolutely no use (you know, that little pocket inside the pocket on the right side?) – free phone holster!

no dork hip holster, nothing extra to carry, you barely can tell it’s there. Doesn’t even feel like you’re carrying a phone.

Pearl…the only phone that feels like an actual phone in your hand and does most everything else I need it to do. Sure it doesn’t have the flash web browsing, but I already have a computer. Suretype is still better than touchscreen typing.

Android. There’s a reason why Android is gaining popularity.

WooHoo!! phhusson has released Froyo 2.2 on the Acer Liquid::: http://briefmobile.com/android-2-2-froyo-on-acer-liquid

There is no need for a task killer. Activities are stopped when an app is in the background and will not be able to execute code…

People are too accustomed to closing applications.
