Samsung to release the Galaxy S in 110 countries on the same day

Rumor

Galaxy-S-GT-I9000

If a report by the Korea IT Times is to be believed, Samsung is preparing an extremely aggressive launch for its Galaxy S; one which would see the Android smartphone launch in 110 countries in a single day. There’s no definitive word on when the launch will occur, but the smart money is on it going down this month or early next. In all likelihood, the spectacle is being planned with the intention of drawing as much media attention to the handset as possible, and, as Korea IT Times points out, it also highlights Samsung’s confidence that it has a spot in the sun in the smartphone world. No guts, no glory, right?

Any idea where it is going in the US?

  • richard

Hopefully word can spread to all of these countries to stay away from Samsung Android devices.

  • Norm

Where is the home button? Where is the search button?

  • MikeD

Now thats a rollout! Did they do a big marketing push in most if not all those countries?

This is also a great way to boost your sales numbers thus giving it a good follow up story on the big sales numbers.

  • Laz

    Is the date 6/19?

  • StevenGlansburg

the interface looks awfully familiar. It’s like they are trying to be something better than they really are.

  • Nick-Nick

Well, I don’t care much about other 109 countries.
But will it come to Canada any time soon, or we have to wait until US market is overstuffed with this then outdated piece of hardware?

the Galaxy is a total rip-off of the iPhone. they have copied absolutley every detail about the iPhone as if they have no innovation of their own. look at them side by side – everything is the same
    - swipe to start
    - same number and location of icons
    - same dock area
    - same size and shape
    - same colour

so how do you say “rip-off” in Korean?

Yeah had they not used an iPhone-esque UI, I would want this phone bad. That and Samsung announcing that Yahoo! will be the default search on all of their phones. Then again, if somebody can figure out how to root the bad boy, you can get rid of all that and take advantage of the amazing hardware.

Not too surprised though. Samsung has so much hardware in the iPhone there is no way Apple could sue. And the iPhone is clearly a successful product. Maybe Samsung is hoping that people who want or are switching from the iPhone would want the Super AMOLED display, fast Hummingbird processor, a front facing camera and the customization of Android along with an iPhone-esque UI.

The only thing holding this phone back is that the main (back) camera has no flash. Womp Womp Womp

    • mrbill

      And it won’t be updateable.

  • Rdx

Android will get a big boost from this, 110 countries, wow!
