AT&T picking up HTC Aria, Samsung Eternity II, Samsung Captivate

Exclusive

One of our AT&T sources let us know of a couple new handsets due to arrive on AT&T’s shelves. First up is the HTC Aria. Supposedly the smallest Android handset from HTC, we’re looking at a rumored 3″ display, HTC Sense, 3G, Wi-Fi, a 5 megapixel camera, and EVO-like styling. The last two we have practically no information on, other than them being Samsung units, obviously. We do have the full model numbers — Samsung Captivate (i897) and Samsung Eternity II (a597) – but we’ll keep digging for more information on those.

Well. I guess selection is good, but nothing of interest. Let’s see what the Dell Streak and new iPhone has to offer.

  • i want android on at&t!

finally!! their current line up is soo weak. i think a give away should be held when these are official ;)

    • Seabass

There is not current line up just the Motorola Att needs couple of android phones!!!

  • smallest android?????

I can’t beleive AT&T thinks they can compete with Sprint and Verizon when they release the world’s smallest android phone. Release the HTC Desire and I will be happy, but a <3 inch screen, are you kidding?????? in that case, I might as well stick with my blackberry bold which has the same size screen probably…….

    • Sir Robin

I agree. The Desire is what I was hoping for, looks like Jobs got to pick the Android lineup so he doesn’t have any competition. Why would HTC even bother making a screen that small.

      • Flixoman

Funny thing is that my wife would likely be all over that Aria. She hates the iPhone because its so large – she prefers the candybar style of the SonyEricsson w810i that she is using. I desire the Desire as well…and I am certainly not getting an iPhone. I dont want to leave big Blue…but… /sigh

iPhone needs to get off my lawn!

    • Waitzar

AT&T is going to use iPhone 4G to compete with Verizon’s HTC DROID Incredible and Sprint’s HTC 4G EVO. Small screen on Aria is disappointing though…but then this is just a rumor so may be when it comes out specs might be a little different?

Finally a HTC android on att and its going to have a 3inch display??? rediculious! i want at least 3.7 INCH display on my next andoid handset..

    • ucfgrad93

Agreed, this is really sad if it is true.

Loving that AndroidGuys is on top of their game!

The Samsung Captivate i897 the AT&Ts version the Samsung Galaxy S that has been leaked. That by itself a huge upgrade to AT&Ts Android offerings.

    • drksilenc

to bad its a samsung… so no its not a big benefit wont use a samsung nor will anyone that i know

    • Cory

Yup, Samsung’s support for existing devices is dismal at best. Users will be lucky to see Froyo on the i897, even though Samsung “promised” 2.2 on Galaxy S devices later this year (I’ll believe it when I see it).

the htc’s will be out later this month early next.. one of which should have the 1.2 snapdragon

  • chellykay

    So disappointing…..

  • TypicalAppleHatingDBAG

Finally, a real phone on At&t. They have no phones that anyone wants, so its about time they get a DROID

  • MacMan

I really hate the rate of android. I paln on leaving AT&T on Friday for a htc evo but I think in 3 months the evo2 or whatever is gonna be so much better than the evo. I wish they would slow down just a little bit. I’m I asking to much to have the best phone out for 6 months ?

    • Norm

you can have the best phone for a whole year actually…. if you just get the iphone

      • MacMan

Best iPod touch you mean. The damn thing sucks at making calls.

      • Norm

        @norm (fake)
Glansburg stop using my name, I saw someone took yours, but it wasn’t me so stop using mine.

    • Norm

Its not the rate of android dude, its the rate of technology.
Gosh I know its suprising that new tech could come out more than once a year, but that’s good considering its only the iDiots who can only buy a phone every June.

  • Frank

WOW, remember when HTC thought we didn’t want a screen bigger than 2.8″ ? What a bunch of moron’s

  • cypherphone

the i897 is the code that was rumored for the samsung galaxy s for att correct?

  • Dan

This is so disappointing. There is nothing interesting or special about Android phones on AT&T. Like many others, I am wishing for HTC Desire. I thought I would never say this but, maybe it is time to leave AT&T and go to Verizon or Sprint. I agree with another user…looks like Steve Jobs is making the decisions on what android phones AT&T offers.

    • franc

i agee with u cause i’m trying to get qwerty smartphone as a go phone but they say that i have to pay the full price without contract that suck

  • spary

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE June 10th release on AT&T:
    http://briefmobile.com/samsung-galaxy-s-release-set-for-june

And keep the super-amoled screen and hummingbird :P

  • iJITSU

If the Aria’s screen is high res and it had decent battery life, then I’ll probably give it a go.

  • Peter

Fuck the Aria. We want LARGE screens, not tiny pieces of crap. Tilt2 with capacitive, 512MB RAM, Snapdragon would have been MUCH better.

    • ItsMichaelNotMike

You do realize that many people don’t want a large screened device, typically women who want something compact enough to fit into a purse.

The Aria meets those users’ needs.

Just like RIM. Don’t you wonder why they have so many compact handset offerings? Business people want something small that fits into a suit pocket or a purse.

  • MichaelSF

At the Mobile World Congress when HTC introduced the compact phones they said words to the affect “And for people who don’t want something as large as the HD2 we have the …..”

That’s the logic behind these phones, cater to as many users as possible. Some want BlackBerry, others Android, some WinMo, some “iMax sized” displays, and others a $50 prepaid style will do.

Android has only recently become so popular that ALL the carriers are now ramping up requests for large screen superphones. Give it six months, there will be plenty of large screen Android-based phones to choose from.

  • McHale

Every time I see AT&T’s future lineup, I give my Nexus One a little kiss.

  • Electrofreak

The Samsung i897 is most likely the US version of the Samsung Galaxy S.

  • http://www.gmachine.net Greg

I’ve been waiting so long for AT&T to cut loos with an android phone. The backflip is far from an android phone that I’m looking for. So, Samsung – HTC lets do it already shove it into the hands of AT&T and lets get ‘r done!

  • Mary Powers

I have been looking for two new phones for over a month now. I have always been with AT&T but they had better come to the party. I and lots of other people need androids. This is the thing of the future! Fire your engineers and let’s get on with doing upgrades the right, newer and better way! GO MODERN, YOU IDIOTS!

  • andROIDrage

the Captivate is the Galaxy S renamed for AT&T

  • JJFNIGHTS80

I will skip this phone. I’m really fed up with AT&T I’m giving them till the end of June or I will be moving to Sprint to get the EVO. I don’t think AT&T even cares for Android or us the consumers. They only have love for APPLE and their crappy iPhone 4G that’s coming. They didn’t get the Desire or the X10. I’m just glad that I didn’t get the cripple Backflip or the small low end Dell Mini another yet crapp ANDROID phone. AT&T doesn’t even have competition. Their just getting pre paired for their love of iphone 4G which I WON’T be getting either.
