There’s not too much to say about this one. Apple fired off a press release a little earlier stating that since the iPad launch on April 3rd, they have sold over 2,000,000 devices. That’s in only 59 days — pretty amazing. The sales figures include both Wi-Fi and 3G models as well as the recent international launch of the “magical” unit. Full press release is after the break!

CUPERTINO, Calif., May 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Apple® today announced that iPad™ sales have topped two million in less than 60 days since its launch on April 3. Apple began shipping iPad in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK this past weekend. iPad will be available in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year.

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

iPad allows users to connect with their apps, content and the Internet in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before. Users can browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, all using iPad’s revolutionary Multi-Touchâ„¢ user interface. iPad is 0.5 inches thin and weighs just 1.5 pounds-thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook-and delivers up to 10 hours of battery life.*

Developers have created over 5,000 exciting new apps for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch user interface, large screen and high-quality graphics. iPad will run almost all of the more than 200,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®.

*Battery life depends on device settings, usage and other factors. Actual results vary.

There’s too much hate in this thread.

The iPad just works, and it works really really well. I don’t think the iPad is pretending to be a full solution to all of your needs – it’s supposed to be a device between a cellphone and a laptop. It does web browsing exceptionally well, emailing on the device is done without a hitch, the GPS is fantastic, and I’ve never read as much as I have since buying the device.

I can’t wait until I buy a Sony NEX-03 and use it along with the iPad + iPad camera connector. Showing off photos on the iPad is an experience because it seems like you are showing a real photograph to them instead of looking at a photo through a computer screen.

I truly believe that the best is yet to come and there will be several killer applications developed by year’s end.

This thread of comments is hilarious. Apple has sold 2 million iPads and the haters still can’t just shut up.

Look nobody is sitting around here wanting you to say anything nice. But to continue to troll, when the device is selling very well, makes you guys look so very foolish, immature and emotional over a gadget? GET A LIFE. LOL

Well, considering that the last report is “40% of iPhone sales have been to business/enterprise” I would suggest that a portion of these went to businesses as well (for example, mine).

Business and apple zombies…not sure if that equates to success as people would have you believe. There’s a report out there that breaks down all of the ‘magical’ numbers that tell a different story.

Sorry, but to have to invent a device to fill a gap that really isn’t there to maintain a presence in pop culture because the other product you have has reached its peak is stagnate is kinda sad.

      /troll, off

Just reading all the apple haters comments just proves that when faced with facts they revert to plain name calling. You don’t like apple, we get it, but at least give credit where credit is due. There was no market for tablets, now there is one and android will follow once again.

I don’t have one, but my friend wants to get one for school. Can it actually be used to write papers or save email attachments? Would he be able to write assignments and save them onto the hard drive? I don’t get it.

Yes it can. But I recommend getting the physical keyboard attachment for when your friend will want to type heavily.

Look the device can do mostly what a traditional computer can. Its all in what apps are written for it.

Basically, buy a netbook or slim laptop.

It comes with a physical keyboard.

Hopefully iPhone would still be apples priority and not ipad

Does anyone know what the word processing apps are?

    • jonathan T

The most popular one is called Pages with word processing. It usually come when you buy a Mac. Not as detailed as Word, but is totally usable. I guess thats why the biggest selling software for the Mac is Microsoft’s Word for the Mac. There will be more eventually, I also have Paperdesk lite installed on my Ipad. Its free and really used for note taking or emailing.

There’s gonna be be a lot of iPads on eBay selling for cheap when the new one comes out. I think I’ll wait till then.
