iPhone Insurance

One of our AT&T ninjas just hit us up with some news that will excite those of you who have a chronic case of the dropsies and own an iPhone. AT&T will be launching a new insurance service starting June 6th, named MobileProtect, designed specifically for the Apple iPhone. The insurance plan, which will be run by Asurion, will carry a price tag of $13.99/month and will be available for purchase through Apple’s App Store. The charges will be billed to the credit card on file with Apple. The deductibles range from $99 for an 8GB 3G to $199 for a 32GB 3GS, which is pretty steep — but not quite as steep as $699 for a new 32 GB 3GS off-contract. You must enroll in the plan within 30-days of upgrading/purchasing a new iPhone. AT&T is launching this service as: “Lack of iPhone insurance is a leading source of iPhone related customer complaints.” What say you? Is this a winner? We think $168/year is a pretty steep price to pay to protect your iPiece. We’ve got an additional image for you after the break.

I work for one of the insurance companies that underwrites these plans. A difference between the Asurion plan offered by AT&T and the others is that the Asurion plan covers lost/stolen phones and the others don’t. If you don’t want that type of coverage, it certainly seems logical to choose one of the lower deductible plans.

AT&T are lying to you. Search on phonephix on your iphone, download the app and sign up. its easy, cost effective. Phonephix doesnt cancel you out if you have a claim and if you upgrade to a new iphone, the policy rolls over with you. Its great.

what other plans / companies do accidental and water damage on the iPhone?
AT&T stores I have gone to say there is none.

    • Paul

why pay so much? Phonephix has plans starting at $5 a month for a two year prepaid plan. That puts Best Buy at 300% higher!

  • anDROIDrage

Just buy the phone from Best Buy Mobile. $15/month and no deductible. Only 2% of phone insurance claims are for lost/stolen. Most people drop it and crack the screen anyways.

best buy’s i phone insurance does not cover a lost or stolen iphone. it will only cover damage to the iphone.

that’s what cases and screen protectors are for… you must be out of your mind to pay 15 bucks a month for this BS..

my local battery shop fixes iphone screens for 50 bucks

  • justin

yes, it’s EXTREMELY steep, especially including the new tiered data pricing from AT&T. i want the iPhone 4 but will never think about it as long as AT&T is laughing @ all their customers while stealing them blindly.

  • Dee

    $168 bucks a year? yea ok.. I think i’ll pass…

AT&T is on some crack… I’d rather use my phone, take care of it and spend that 168 bucks on a new iphone in every upgrade eligibility cycle.

Hey I bought a protection program for my iPhone and it was only $79 a year with a $50 dedutible. They cover the phone against damage, software, battery any repair water damage everything. Plus they where they only one that would cover my phone that was 2 years old, everyone else said had to be new or within 30 days. This company does all the repairs themselves they dont send it out to someone else. Check them out at http://www.iphoneprotech.com

      Jeff,

Have you used the iphoneprotech protection plan yet?

So I know my comment is late but I think I should put in my two cents. All of you arguing over the Verizon/AT&T network issue should stop. I’m not super technologically advanced but I have learned that your coverage depends on the phone you have. I had a smartphone with Verizon…great coverage. Switched to AT&T, got a Pantech Reveal and my coverage was just okay, I got horrible coverage at my job cuz we had a metal eoof, but my coworker had an iPhone and her coverage was amazing. So the amount of coverage a network says they have means nothing. You basically pick what coverage you want.
Second, why bash AT&T about the insurance??? Best Buy offers insurance and I may get that when I buy my iPhone. I don’t plan on losing my phone and i always have it with me to make sure there isn’t any theft. My only concern is getting protection on my phone cuz I have butter fingers and I drop my phones all the time and hey if I don’t want the insurance I’ll just pay the amount I need to get a refurb and suck it up.

I started Phonephix last year when I had trouble finding insurance that made sense. I dont expect to lose my phone. but did crack my screen. Apple cut me a deal. If I paid for two years extended warranty for both my iphones they would repair it for free. How does a big company do things like this. It cost me too much and the warranty is not transferrable. So we created PhonePhix. warranty coverage is transferrable to the next phone. And no gimmicks with low rates but only paying out early upgtrade fees. or only the initial retail amount of $200. We repair or replace the phone! and will send you a loaner next day. Phonephix is the best option and for an equivalent of $5 a month for a two year contract that can roll to the next phone its a great program.

AT&T is not the cheapest option in town. Consider Ensquared for the best product at the most reasonable price out there.

Ensquared One Year Program = $98.99($8.24 pm) compared with ATT Premium: $12 pm

Visit http://www.ensquared.com to see the options. The product has $1000 claim limit with 2 separate claims . Ensquared is 100% phone insurance focused and they offer a 15 day money back guarantee.

This insurance protects iphone for theft, lost, and damage for $99 a year. Anybody heard of this company???

  • Debrascross

That is not that good news to me because Mine cost me 19.00 with my discount from company. By the time they do have it, my phone will be uninsurable because its been over 30 days. I would have to purchase another one which I really don’t want to.

It would be nice if there was a company that offered iphone coverage period whether or when you bought it.
