Apple to announce iTunes.com, new Macs at WWDC?

General

Apple Logo-Black + White

It’s no secret that the star of this year’s WWDC keynote will be the next-gen iPhone, but what else could it potentially bring to the table? According to a note issued to investors by Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu, the answer is iTunes.com, a cloud-based music service, and a refresh of the Mac Pro and MacBook Air. Apple has long been rumored to want in on the cloud-based music business, and its purchase of Lala in December of 2009 only served to add fuel to the fire. Add to this the fact that Apple has ordered Lala be shut down on May 31st and it seems there is quite a bit of evidence to support these claims. Turning our attention to the Mac Pro, the scuttlebutt is that it will pack a pair of 12 core Westmere-based processors from Intel’s Xeon 5600 series. As for the MacBook Air, rumors of a refresh have been fairly consistent over the past few months. The most recent came a few weeks ago and claimed that the travel-friendly notebook would be equipped with a Intel Core i3 processor and 4GB of RAM (although back in January the word was it would be getting a Core i5 processor). Would this be enough to satiate your need for shiny, new Apple gear?

Sounds good…looking forward to the announcement. Could this be what the server farm is linked to?

    • Justin

That’s what I’ve been wondering as well.

How about the mac mini? I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting to buy an htpc because of the March rumor that the mac mini was getting an HDMI port (a must have in my opinion).

    • Red

It’s called “MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter” that you can by from HSN.com for $19.99. Now that the MacBooks support audio through MiniDisplay Port, why clutter it up with another port that MANY won’t use?

wheres the blu-ray and hdmi port

There goes apple copying off of google like usual

      You’re so funny!

      Are you joking?

    • Joe

There is no copying Google here. This server farm has been under construction for awhile (family lives nearby).

You are perceiving a copy as announcement date. To think many of these companies do not know what the others are up to is really turning a blind eye.

Let them both offer similar services. Competition is good.

How would i listen to music if i am on a plane or something with no internet connection it my music would reside in cloud??

  • earldeadsby

@bhavin: you power up your iPod/iPhone/iPad. iTunes.com doesn’t mean you lose all your music files; it just means that IF you have an internet connection you can access your whole library.

The Air needs to change drastically. At least the price does. I can’t believe anyone actually buys them as they are. IMO, they need to have ~2ghz processor, 2 (upgradeable to 4) GB RAM, and several SSD options from 64 up and prices from $799 up. Right?

Being the “road warrior” it’s meant to be, I personally wouldn’t mind a small HD if the whole package costs less than any other Apple machine.

  • smooter

Maybe they will announce that they are lowering their prices since everything they make has the same design? There has to be cost savings in that methodology!

Or, maybe they will announce that the iDon’t 4G will be their last product because Steve wants to retire, and no one else is smart enough to create new products, or dumb enough to make stupid remarks about tech?
    :-) One could wish…

When have these analysts ever been right????? in fact, i look forward to hearing what they say so I can expect the opposite to be true

“scuttlebutt is that it will pack a pair of 12 core Westmere-based processors”

There are no 12 core processors in existence.

There are 6 core processors with hyperthreading, which appear as 12 cores to the system, but are anything but true 12 cores.

The Mac Pros are most likely getting, at the extreme high end, 12 real-cores with 24 “logical” cores.

    • Hurp

It probably means having two 6 core processors.
      2 x 6 = 12
Apple tends to double up on processors for the Mac Pro.

      • doofusgumby

I’ve been holding off buying a new video edit machine for the dodecacore that’s been rumored for a while.

A 12 core Mac Pro would be pretty awesome. I’d rather get a MacBook Pro with an SSD though.

Not a big fan of the Air. It looks nice but I’d miss not having any of the ports.
