Lost series finale breaks torrent records

LOST-logo

The series finale of Lost has earned the perhaps-not-so enviable honor of being the most torrented file of all time. Torrent Freak reports that the final episode of ABC’s hit drama was downloaded over 1 million times in under 1 day, with over 100,000 people seeding a single file. Buzz about how the series ended, combined with the overseas fans who could not bear to wait the 48 – 72 hours for the show to air, are credited with creating the torrent of torrents. Congratulations Lost. Take a bow?

    1st…..I miss you, Lost :(

    Feels like someone died -_-

  • James

Jack at the very beginning said, “If we don’t stick together, we will die alone.” Jack didn’t “die” alone. Vincent the dog lied down by his side. Dog backwards is God. Vincent is also Latin for victorious or conquering. Just thought I’d throw that out there, because I found it interesting.

    • Jeeverz

What is Latin for WAAAAAALT ?

dumbest finale ever, too many questions left unanswered, but plenty of advertising – 45 mins and 107 ads! Thank god for 30 sec forward skip hack on comcast DVR.

you must be stupid then. you obviously didn’t understand the finale at all and the whole point of the show. they said all along that it was about the characters and part mystery. they did answer most of the questions anyways. and most questions are common sense anyways, they want you to use your brain for it…

      • modis mo

then wtf was the island brainiac? how many interesting answers do you have for that – don’t worry don’t care anymore

I do care that writers/producers that get paid million$ can’t come up with a succinct story about what the island is – or maybe they are creative enough to do it

      • James

They left a lot of stuff up to interpretation. I guess you don’t have an imagination.

      • acquaz10

you are a complete dumbass. rewatch ab abertno or whatever it was called. the richard flashback episode. its described as a cork. the island is an island anyways. what more do you need than that? really…

      • modis mo

        some passionate people here…

so in six seasons they make a passing comment about the island. that’s pretty weak

for 6 years they’re writing for the show and I have to imagine the answers to everything?

leaving it open to interpretation is a cop-out, they probably had a bunch of endings that all sucked so they let it open so that jokers like you two could get all gooey – and say how great it was and how it re-invented television.

        Hollywood sucks admit it.

If it weren’t for the latest faulty operating software that DISH network put on certain versions of their receivers, the timer I set would have fired off properly and I would have gotten the whole 4 hour-two parts. But alas, no just a little over 1 hour of the end. So since I have had to DL NCIS for the past two weeks due to the recording being shredded, naturally headed for the web. I am so glad that I had to DL it. The copy I got, with no commercials (yeah!), was expertly prepared and even after a 13 hour DL and at 720p on my 1080p24/30/60 50″ DLP was billion fold a better picture than from the DISH receiver. It gave me something to seriously compare their feeds to someones OffTheAir feed and the OTA recorded, edited and reprocessed for placement on the web wins by a mile. DISH your PQ is crap!!! And your new software sucks. Step up or let TiVo buy you out.

Not only did the Picture Quality, the finale itself, but being able to enjoy it straight through without commercials was enough to make one cry.

BGR was more interesting when it rendered quickly and well on mobile devices, and had breaking news and leaks. Now you guys are basically engadget. Or crackberry/macrumors without the useful info.

I have premium cable and I still download all of my shows. Partly so I can watch them when I please, partly because I don’t feel like being bombarded with Tampax, Pantene and Viagra commercials every 5 minutes.

It just sucks that [illegal] downloads aren’t factored into rating how well a show is doing. The last few years have been tough on viewers of many shows – since they’ve all been axed due to “viewer popularity” issues. Unfortunately only we’re to blame for that I guess.

Way to go though Lost. Way to go.

  • AT&T Thug

I never got this show. I stopped watching after the 2nd episode of SEASON 1. LOST SUCKS!

    • James

      And you’re an idiot…

        And you’re an idiot.

The most amazing show of all time. Loved the show and even though the finale did not answer all of the questions, it was good enough for me. By leaving some questions unanswered, they will provide fuel for discussion for years to come to formulate multiple interesting theories. If there is still more demand for it, I guess they will even make a movie out of it to explain the stuff later.

    • blicket

      amazing…for network tv

  • George

Last week it was 50,000 people getting sued for downloading The Hurt Locker, now let’s push it to 100,000!

  • T

Wow… so what we’re saying here is that a bunch of idiots drew unnecessary attention to an illegal activity when the damn show can be watched for free, legally, at any time, on abc.com? There’s about to be a Napster-style lawsuit, with bigger punitive damages, coming real soon…

    • James

I am not suggesting that you are wrong, but what punitive damages are there if the original “product” was free? Just a thought. The napster issue involved copy righted music, and artists and labels weren’t making money off of the music that originally had a price. If ABC wasn’t charging for it to begin with, how have they been hurt? If anything, it reduced the strain on their servers and advertised their networks name because everyone knows ABC was airing LOST.

      • T

Nothing in this world is free other than the air we breath. It’s intellectual property, and they make a shitload of money off it in the first place, then again on Blu ray and DVD. It is copywritten material… just because you monetarily didn’t pay an admission price, doesn’t mean somebody didn’t pay for that show to be created and aired. This was all done with the notion that they’d have a return on investment.

Frankly, what I’m suggesting is not that people shouldn’t try to “liberate” things for themselves, I’m not claiming to be holier than thou. What I’m suggesting is that since this is an illegal activity, and there’s a laundry list of ways they can achieve the same end result in legal ways… that they’re all complete idiots for drawing unneeded attention to a good thing, especially when this is THE show for one of the 3 largest networks not just in America, but the world – with this show being sold into off-network syndication by ABC Studios/Touchtone in the US and sold as first-air shows to companies like Virgin Media, who air it in Europe, and others that air it in Asia and the Pacific. Then of course the aforementioned blu ray and dvd productions… so what I’m getting at is… people are retards to literally just go wave a very big middle finger in the face of a media giant, getting the attention of not only them but the news media… and it may very well end in them costing themselves the service they, and others, love. It’s like this…. just because it’s now legal in D.C. to get medical marijuana, with personal use being decriminalized, doesn’t mean you go and smoke it on the lawn of the DEA.

      • T

        touchStone… not touchtone… keyboard and/or spelling fail

  • Electrofreak

I watched it live, but the real irony is that my girlfriend is sitting 10 feet away, watching the finale after she just torrented it off the web.
