BlackBerry Pearl 3G with AWS 3G passes the FCC

General

Although T-Mobile has remained mum on the issue of whether or not it will carry the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, it’s good to sell the phone so far as Uncle Sam is concerned. Both the SureType and T9 siblings have passed, as the AWS 3G variants just received FCC certification. Of course with rumors recently circulating saying that T-Mobile had passed on the Pearl 3G in favor of a cheaper, 3G-capable Curve floating around, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether or not we’ll ever see these hit the shops.

It’s going to be at least a few months until this puppy shows up in NA, Telstra got a 3-month worldwide exclusive starting in early June.

    • ljp

That’s not true at all. Telus is launching it tomorrow, Rogers will be launching it on the first of June and Vodaphone UK will have it out in June as well. There is no worldwide exclusive.

Am I the only one that threw up a bit at seeing the t9 keyboard?

That said…the pearl is a nice phone. Not amazing but it’s nice. I remember my pearl when it first came out fondly. It was my first and as of now last bb though..

You BB users kill me. You would buy this phone? Really? Even broke, penniless teen girls wouldn’t buy this phone. Even if it came in pink again.

Didn’t T-Mo confirm that they were passing on the Pearl 3G? If that is true, then this could be going to Wind Mobile which also uses AWS.

  • Bunifa@SprintPOS

It’ll probably sell if it’s near free with a new agreement.

I don’t see why anyone should pick this phone over the 9700 or a new 3G Curve.

Bigger is better and the T9 version is surprisingly even nastier looking than the SureType version..

    • Badonkadonk

Supports 802.11n in addition to b/g

Otherwise exact same specs as the 9700 in 2/3 the space, with a slightly lower (and wonkier) screen res.

Pearl is still my fav BB because of its size – the 7100 was awesome for being the first BB that didn’t feel like you were talking into a calculator, and 8100 was first and foremost a phone that also did “the rest of the BB stuff”.

Not my cup of tea but theres a market for it with someone. My girl lives by her Pearl & wants nothing else. Sure phone junkies, tech geeks, astronauts, & NAVY SEALS wont be caught alive with one but someone does

piece of shit, waste of money

      is this your user review?

  • mingkee

Please add UMA for T-Mobile version.

  • Danny

I’d use it for work. I prefer Android (Nexus One) for my personal phone but for work it’d be great.

I used the original Pearl 8100 and the refresh to the 8120. Both did what they needed to do just fine and the call quality was outstanding on T-Mobile’s network.

Some of us are so nerdy that we forget the reasons why normal people choose and prefer their mobile phones. This is a good looking phone with a great form factor that is powerful enough to be labeled a smartphone.
