Can’t get enough BlackBerry slider action? Well today’s your lucky day, as a bunch of new images of the handset have leaped out by way of TheBerryFix. Showing off what looks to be a late prototype / early production model, the images give us a pretty good glimpse of not only the handset itself, but some of the new niceties of the BlackBerry 6 OS including a virtual QWERTY keypad, a clone of Cover Flow in the media player, and, of course, the much-hyped WebKit browser. Anyone else excited to see this sucker launch on AT&T during the June/July timeframe? Click on through for a few more pics.

Thanks, Ruffles!

I think I saw a guy with this phone. He was wearing parachute pants, had a boombox on this shoulder, some leg warmers, and had a shirt on that said “Keep on Truckin’”

    • Guido LaVespa

that wasnt a guy! it was your mom!

reminds me of the Pre… I’m digging the phone when it’s closed, the virtual keyboard seems a decent size… not digging the slider though, I guess a horizontal slider would be too “HTC’ish”… lolz…

If Darth Vader needed a smartphone it would be the 9800.

If this was on Sprint, I might consider this instead of the Evo to replace my Pre

RIM took all this time and they come out with something decent and its AT&T exclusive?? RIM can kick rocks. Glad I broke up with Blackberry and got my Motorola Droid BOGO on Big Red.

While I have no desire to get the 9800, you seem to forget that VZW has exclusives to the Storm, and son of Storm. So whats the point? Its OK for one carrier to have exclusives and not the other?

BTW, I hate exclusives too, fine for 90 days, but after that its nonsense.

    • Devon2000

its not exclusive, its supposed to go to sprint by the late 4h quarter of this year, and probaby to the other networks after that, just like they did the curve 8500

I was waiting for touchscreen with a slider keyboard phone for a long time, I love my 9700 keyboard this is perfect now let’s hope webkit it’s up worth the hype.

  • RWK

Anyone know if it will support UMA?

  • chellykay

Why did it take so long for BB to go touchscreen? They are really far behind the times. I agree that it looks like a pre. I like it though.

  • rollo

a “vertical” slider, really… did rim pay any attention to the effect the pre had on consumers? now they wanna sell turd handsets & have people pay actual cash… pass!

I’ll have to pop in to my favourite Thai food restaurant in Waterloo to see if I can have a peak at someone with one. The last time the Bold 9000 was in prototype/pre-release form, they were all over the place while I stared over their shoulders drooling.

RIM should have really put more thought into the slide action of this phone. A slider is a great idea but only if it is sliding in the right direction. They should have made it slide like the Motorola Droid instead of like the Palm Pre. The day they come out with a horizontal slider for T-Mobile I will buy it.

  • Geoff

    i want one

  • BLACKBERRY BABY

I AM SO READY FOR ATT&T TO CARRY A TOUCHSCREEN BLACKERRY…..SEEING THE BOLD 9800 PROTOTYPE…..WISH THEY WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THE KEYBOARD THROUGH A BIT MORE……MAYBE MAKING THE SLIDER HORIZONTAL.

For those of us that have anal-retentive employers that require blackberry, this is godsend.
