All white next-gen iPhone shows up in Hong Kong

Rumor

all-white-iphone

Considering the country that these photos were snapped in, we can’t help but hear the words “fake” in the back of our minds, but Apple.pro is claiming what we’re looking at is proof positive that the next-gen iPhone will be available in an all white body. If you look closely at the pics you’ll notice a curiously big gap between the fascia and the aluminum mid-section, but in fairness, that alone is not enough to rule this as fake. Same goes for the holes for screws seen next to the 30-pin dock connector, something we know to be a hallmark of early prototypes. We’ve got one more pic after the jump, but man, wouldn’t it be nice to have such a fresh looking device?

Boy, with all the 8 megapixel camera phones now out there, i would be very concerned if Apple’s new phone doesn’t have at least 8 mp – but i’m guessing they will come out with 5 because, well, that’s just the way they do things – convince you their 5 mp camera is better than the other guys 8mp camera and next year come out with an 8 mp camera and convince you it’s better than eveyone else’s 12 mp camera.

Funny how they can repeated pull off this stunt.

Remember when they told us we didn’t need cut, copy and paste?

Remember when they told us we didn’t need multitasking or MMS etc. etc. Then they came out with them and convinced us they did it better than anyone else?

Dem is shmart. We is dum.

    • eric

no one needs an 8 mp camera, 3.2 is sufficient enough its a cell phone not a movie camera.

      • Bbop

        Insert fanboy response now.

You must have used any of the smartphones that have anything better than a 3.2 mp camera or you don’t do anything with the pictures that you take on your phone.

Apple has made a business about making your pockets lighter by carrying one device that can do multiple things. They brand their products as “do eveything better than the next guy” unless they can’t do it better, in which case they say that it’s not neccessary.

Your actually making Fastwalking’s point with this response.

      • Brye

Who seriously buys a smartphone because of the camera?

      • StevenHamburg

it would not be a smartphone if it did not have a camera.

      • Mack Simmons

Go to Bijan Sabat’s Web site and ask him the same question. He will tell you that for many folks, the camera on the phone is now the primary camera for many people. He’s right.

For most photos, you don’t need the highest quality point-and-shoot or DSLR. You just need a phone with a decent camera and maybe, LED flash (if you really need it). The quality won’t be top-notch, but even on a Curve, the photo quality isn’t too bad.

The camera may not be the most-important part of the smartphone buy. But it is important enough to dissuade folks — especially those who are turned on more by the pixel rate than by the quality of photo.

      • Fastwalking

Nonsense – I would definitely adjust my purchase to get a better camera. As it is now, the photos can only be used on your iphone – if you want to blow them up at all or use them for anything other that nonsensical fooling around, you are out of luck – there is not enough depth to them. However at 8 mp, i could dispense with buying a stand alone camera and use my iphone. In real state, (my profession) this would be fantastic.

      • Zing

Even though Apple increased the number of megapixels, it didn’t help much last time anyway. Picture quality was still grainy and awful.

Mind you, I still use my iPhone camera when there is no other alternative.

      • Brye

MP is really not that big of a deal, it’s the lens that makes the difference. I do admit that camera’s are a focal point of buying a phone, however, (to me at least) the camera should be decent: good lens, lots of filters, and a decent optical zoom (3x), 5 MP is seriously way more than enough – and I highly doubt Apple would slap a 8 MP sensor on board, it would cost way too much. Point is, if you want and awesome camera, buy one, its not called a smartcameraphone.

      • tbearski

…”Apple has made a business about making your pockets lighter”…. Have you seen Apples prices? …Sorry! NEVER Lighter!

      • Josephmcvey

Your just saying that cause thats all you have.

      • Fastwalking

Eric, you missed the point entirely as to why these devices exist. If all you want is a toy, then you may br staisfied. If you are looking for an amazing device that can help you acheive a multitude of tasks, then you want a decent smartphone with useable features.

Maybe all you want to do is take silly ppictures of your friends for facebook, but others may want to use the photos for work and they would need something a little more serious.

      • FunkyG

Fastwalking – you’re clearley clueless about camera’s on phones.

As many people have already stated, the MP count is meaningless on a phone.

Are you SERIOUSLY trying to tell me that you’ll use a phone camera to replace a dedicated one for work purposes??? Lol. Give your head a shake.

My first digital camera was a sony 1.3 megapixel with 3x optical zoom. It took better quality pictures than any phone camera, simply because of the optics and sensor. All the MP meant was I couldn’t print them any bigger than standard photo size.

There’s no way can any phone camera realistically replace a dedicated camera given how low cost they are and how much better the features / picture quality is. It doesn’t even compare.

You’re a fool to suggest otherwise and are clearly blinkered by marketing.

My nokia N96 had a 5mp camera. My iPhone 3g with its 2mp camera takes better real world quality photos than it because of the shutter lag on the nokia.

    • Scott

It appears that most people don’t know much about cameras. It’s not the MPs, but the size of the sensor and lens. Cell phones can carry only so big of a sensor. I can show you a 3.2MP that can out shoot a 5MP. The only thing more MPs do is make the picture bigger.

You’ve also never used an iPhone. While yes, it did take them a while to incorporate copy/cut/paste, but they have done it the best so far. I can copy anything from the internet: links, pictures, text, indentation, bullets… you name it, and then I can paste it into an e-mail in exactly the same format. Android can’t copy/paste as well. I’d rather wait a little longer for a feature and have it done right, then get it now and have it be half assed.

      • Furby

I’m glad you mentioned this, rather than me saying it again. I am sick to death of people with little knowledge slating low MP cameras as if MP’s are what makes a camera. Who uses their phone as their main camera anyway?

      • Dave

Agreed about the megapixel #s its the sensor that makes the deference. I used the blackberry 3.2 mp camera and used the 3.2 mp iPhone camera and the Blackberry one was much better same shot same place and time. but these days believe it or not people DO use their phone camera for everyday use, unless people want to take professional pictures then obviously you would get an SLR. but I think even a 5mp camera with a good quality lens for the iphone should be ok but i think less than that is not really good cause we are in 2010 people do need good quality pictures with their phone to capture special moments. i’m personally not a big fan of this new design at all

      • jd

Agreed with what you say about megapixels on cameras — It’s more about the sensor/sensor size. People just are obsessed with the MP because they think bigger = better. Not always, people!

    • Cold Dead Fingers

The iPhones 3.2 MP camera is better than the Moto backflip’s 5.0 MP camera. When are you going to learn that it’s not the mp count that matters, but the quality of the lens? If the do come out with a 5mp camera, you’ll see that it is truly better than the majority of 8mp cameras.

    • Alex

Ummm, I don’t think Apple ever said that users don’t need cut, copy & paste. It was in the works. They want the best implementation of it, and they did it. As for camera megapixels, 3mp is enough for facebook and other internet photo upload purposes. Websites have size limits on photo uploads. Photos of big sizes need to be downsized before it can get uploaded. I think 5mp is more than enough on a phone for it’s purpose.

And this is comparing two Android devices to each other. A 5 megapixel camera beat a 8 megapixel camera.

Oh and the iPhone 3Gs and the Pal Pre both beat out the Nexus One and Moto Droid despite shooting lower resolution video.

      - – - – - – - – -
      First Place: iPhone 3GS

The colors in the iPhone 3GS’s videos looked the most washed out among the four competitors; but Apple’s phone handled motion pretty well, with only a small amount of stuttering. The 3GS produced a bit of pixelation in the Ferris wheel, but slightly less than the other three phones did.

      Second Place: Palm Pre Plus

The Palm Pre Plus’s videos appeared darker than the footage I captured with the other smartphones, and I saw a small amount of stuttering in the train’s motion. I also detected some ghosting with the train, and some pixelation in the Ferris wheel.

      Third Place: Motorola Droid

The Motorola Droid’s videos had the most natural colors of the four phones, but it too suffered from blurriness and pixelation. Among the group, it also struggled the most with motion: It frequently stuttered, and video playback even came to a complete stop in some shots.

      Fourth Place: Google Nexus One

In all three test videos with the Nexus One, I noticed a strange flickering effect in the background. The videos all had a bluish tint, and obvious pixelation appeared in the Ferris wheel.

People are so easily suckered by numbers its ridiculous. Mega-pixels mean nothing if you have a crappy sensor, or lens or a number of things.

      Nuff said.

  • http://boygeniusreport.com Rush Limbaugh

I hope WWDC brings good news for Verizon.

    • Kirk

Yea, the good news will be it won’t be on that POS network.

      • http://boygeniusreport.com Rush Limbaugh

you are POS Kirk…ever thought of that bruh?

  • gwlaw99

I am surprised the screen is actually a little smaller given the 4.3 inch android phones. I was hoping for 4″. I guess it was for battery life.

  • Mrwirez

    Seriously, they are just covers.

  • jv91

    what revolutionary device…

  • iamajim

More ‘magic’ I take it; wgasa

  • StevenGlansburg

I like the design. But then again I’m not an anti-Apple-only-use-Android-because-its-the-only-thing-close-on-Verizon-kind-of-guy

    • eric

      jerry?

  • Dave

its still a puzzle to me what are these cut outs in the bottom part of frame? this whole design is really holding me back. the square sharp edges are really holding me back, this phone looks like a cheap htc on the market toaday. I think they failed big time in the design department this looks like a iphone that could be out 4 years ago. in my opinion the current iphone (3gs) has actually a much better design even though its 2 years old. I was expecting something much better than this in terms of design I thought they would at least take some design inspiration from the ipad or so, but this thing just looks like every other cheap looking phone. I really hope thats not all, I guess we’ll find out soon

    • Cold Dead Fingers

The iPhone is like chocolate and Macs are like peanut butter. The iPad is a mixture of both. The front of the iPad is the classic iPhone look and the back aluminum is taken from Macs, so it’s a mixture of both. The iPhone has to maintain it’s own separate identity.

      • krik_ca

So you are saying that the iPad is like the Reese’s Pieces of the Apple world?

        I think I like that concept. :D

  • Cold Dead Fingers

I love the look of the white one. I’ll probably just still to the black one, as always, though.

  • Alex

I ilke this new design. I think I will upgrade to the white one :)

  • Will

The white one looks like a fake. Looks like a cover is on there. If you look at the home button, it’s recessed quite deeply. As do other “holes” on the phone.

I say this is BS. There is no way Apple’s fascist designers would allow that.

    • http://heavygunblog.com dj btam

Yea im with you on that one. the white on is just a cover… nothing more.

  • Kevin McCarthy

Most likely the white one is for verizon and the black for ATT. They will change the backs around.

    • StevenGlansburg

Verizon has an exclusive on the white one

  • James

How is everything getting leaked this time around?

    • Mrwirez

Jobs pisses everyone off… From Adobe, to HTC, to Nokia, to Google, to Microsoft, to developers, To Android, to Motorola… I am sure I missed some. EVEN the poor Asian person making the products are getting sick..

      AND you ask how??

  • Ryan

If you look closely this is a mock 4G case put over top a 3G. Big gap on home button and where the supposed front facing camera is going. I am calling fake on this one.

    • Kevin McCarthy

I dont think its the full 4G, i think its just the digtizer and the side part of the case, the back and all the interior components are not on it yet. Look at the forward facing camera hole its goes straight through to the paper.

  • jonathan T

I like the overall design, but who knows what it will really be like when the final product comes out. I guess we’ll know soon enough. I wonder if I could upgrade from my 3gs to the new one without paying too much.

    • Bob

Apple an Thrifty can never be used in the same sentences ever again after this ok.

      Like ever.

  • Carl

The reality of the situation is, most of you are pathetic nerds with nothing better to do than talk about phones. True, some are regular people with an interest in technology but others are obsessive freaks.

  • Cody

Some of these comments are getting ridiculous, I’m not an apple fan boy by any means, but i would love to break the chain of naive comments and shed some light on a little something called iterative development. And lots of companies use it, not just apple.

    - make a feature pool of features you would like your software/product to have
    - then you prioritize the features by business value
    - for your first “sprint” you include only the necessary features, but you beta test and test the shit out of it to make sure it’s flawless.
    - release product/software and start back with the product pool all over again.

This makes for a clean product with minimal errors.
Apple didn’t tell u you didn’t need cut and paste, it just wasn’t a priority for their product at the time, or they couldn’t get it perfect during the first couple sprints.
And timing was everything to apple, they were the first “competent touch screen” and opened floodgates for companies like google and

If they had held out longer to add more features or if they would have tried to cram a bunch of non ready features into their phone, it wouldn’t be near the success.

Apple doesn’t just sell millions because their status symbols, peole also get apple products because their intuitive and generally don’t have issues like windows and other products. And it’s that way because of their developing process.

They didn’t tell u you didn’t need more megapixels, they just used what they could, in the time given, whatever made the most business sense. and I’ve been selling phones for years and have yet to run across a better 2mp camera.

My motorola droid has a 5 megapixel camera and tons a features, but it force closes 2 or 3 times a day. My iPhones don’t.

I can’t believe anyone here thinks that apples not doing something, you folks might want to do some market research.

  • apple_

I’ll take a white one please.

  • James

These are not fake, but they are probably older prototypes. First notice the screw holes which will certainly not be in the consumer version. Then notice that they are sitting on their metallic bezels, there should be one more layer of that ceramic/polycrystal/plastic/whatever it’s going to be, on the bottom. These phones are empty which could explain the home button hanging so low. As for the weird object above the earpiece on the white phones we’ve seen lately, my guess is notification LED for messages or charging status.

  • elinventor

this is outer case,to hide the phone design, not the one that will be showing off in keynote

  • Billy

yuk…the moto droid is ugly.. :P
