Apple iPhone video conferencing info

Breaking

apple-video-1

Like we need any more proof, right? Even so, the more confirmation the better we say, and one of our Apple guys has sent us in some shots of the field test firmware for the new iPhone HD (or whatever it is), and we’ve got them right here for you. They are pretty self explanatory, and there is one more after the break!

What I think will happen … AT&T will get the new iPhone 4 and have exclusive access to it for a year or two. Verizon will then get an iPhone 3G version for their network. AT&T keeps the new equipment exclusivity and Apple gets their access to Verizon’s network. Now, what Apple had to give up for AT&T to agree to that … who knows. Maybe a long term deal on the iPad.

    • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

boy you read a lot of articles

About 5 posts down from my original post I made a correction. I know Verizon does also it was the timing I found interesting. Less than a week before the Apple announcement.

  • Carmen

Why are people wanting to drop AT&T and move to Sprint? They complain about the dropped calls on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile don’t have adequate coverage where I’m from. They way I look at it is this:

If you want the cheapest plan, you will find it on Sprint or T-Mobile. If you want coverage, you will find it on AT&T or Verizon, but you’ll pay a premium for it. That’s just how the U.S. cellphone industry works. That’s exactly why AT&T and Verizon always try to match each other in price and why Sprint and T-Mobile do the same. The pairs above are the only DIRECT competitors to each other.

    • Scorpeo

Verizon and Sprint have been rated to have the best call quality, and fewer dropped calls. Not to mention, Sprint and Verizon have the most consistent data.

    • Mary Kendelson

I dumping AT&T and Apple for the EVO and Android. I don’t really care about pricing, coverage or customer service (even though it will be cheaper for me and I live in a 4G area). The iPhone4G and AT&T are now a generation or two back from Android (2.2).

But my ETF payment to AT&T in a couple of weeks will be my parting gift to them. Never had an issue but it’s time for something new….and better.

      • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

        another EVO fanboy

      • Jdlnmia

        You mean another EVO fanchick.

      • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

Also 4G doesn’t mean better the fact is T-Mobile’s 21 mbps has been proven faster

    • Mustafa

I find this a bit interesting, no one will have proper coverage of LTE or 4G until I’d 2011, with this being said i really don’t believe in the adds for the next generation of cellular active until there is proper coverage. It’s all about the marketing and proper coverage for key big citys like Chicago for Sprint.

    • Chris

As I see it, it goes like this:

TMobile: Cheap, good network in cities, crappy elsewhere.
      Sprint: Cheap, good network.
      Verizon: Expensive, great network.
      ATT: Expensive, crappy network.

The numbers back me up: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-20004547-94.html
The only pairings are in brand power.

  • VZWHoustonRegionalManager

DROIDs been able to do this for years already. FAIL APPLE!

    • MikeD

One of the Stupidest statements a Fandroid can make, or anybody.

So because a products did something first, theres an unwritten rule nobody else can try to do it.

I keep saying. Where are the sane Android user to shut the hell up these Fandroid trolls

      • MicroNix

“So because a products did something first, theres an unwritten rule nobody else can try to do it.”

Isn’t that the rational Jobs is using when suing HTC?

        Just sayin….

      • Jarrett

        @ MicroNix,

Jobs isn’t saying don’t do it. Jobs is saying invent and patent your own method for doing it, don’t use Apple’s IP without Apple’s permission. Multiple parties can patent identical things so longs as they each use different avenues to get to the destination. Apple (or any corporation for that matter) wouldn’t being suing if HTC was using their own method for travel.

    • Cold Dead Fingers

You mean for video calling all you had to do was turn the phone around so you can’t see the person on the other end…………..smart.

    • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

      your a retard

      • Ted

        it’s… “you’re a retard”… NOT “your a retard”

        RETARD!

      • wow.

because harping about negligent grammatical errors makes you smart. wow.

      • kevin

Its irony… and so is this.

    • Adrian Abromaitis

First of all your not a manager of anything and second the droid is only a few months old and droid does NOT have a front facing camrea but the new iPhone and Evo does

  • Kigs

can someone explain to me why people keep thinking apple exists in a “bubble” and can do whatever they like/whenever they like? Sure it’d be nice to stay exclusive for another couple years but guess what? In a few years the iphone wont even be relevant! Att would lay with google too since the OS is free and developers are flocking to android.

if the iphone isnt on verizon this year, nobody will officially care anymore. Iphone lost its cool about a year ago

    • Jarrett

I wish my products would lose their cool and sell 8.75 million units like Apple sold iPhones last quarter. Your product loses it’s cool and yet has it’s highest sales quarter to date. But surely your idea gas merit.

      • MicroNix

While they are still selling, they will soon reach their ceiling with AT&T, its inevitable. Only the Apple upgrade machine will keep sales going.

If you consider though that Android is now “outselling” the iPhone @ 9 million units and accelerating at a higher rate than the iPhone, one *could* make the observation that the iPhone *is losing* its cool.

Seriously, look at any Android forum and posts under “post your Android screens” and you’ll see infinite possibilities with Android. Do the same for iPhone and you get the same rows of icons doing the same thing….launching an app. OS 4.0 gives you wallpapers (wooo!) but other than that, you see one iPhone, you have definitely seen them all. No lie. Not true about an Android device.

      • Jarrett

        @ MicroNix,

You need to do a little more research on this. Android didn’t sell 9 million units last quarter. Android YOY (year over year) growth % was higher then Apple’s in the US. The keys to that are % and US. Worldwide Apple is on over 80 carriers and Android with 40+ devices isn’t available on 60 yet. The US numbers are important. Another number is the 53% of Verizon subscribers who say they will buy an iPhone when/if it becomes available. Take Japan for instance, Apple now sells 3 out of every 4 smartphones. Similar things are happening in every country where Apple is available on multiple carriers. If Apple releases iPhone to other US carrier(s) this year or not it will not hamper their overall global growth. That would be like someone suggesting that Nokia isn’t the largest device vendor of any company on the planet just because they don’t have a strong US presence. In all reality Apple could probably double their sales just by offering an iPhone for China Mobile.
What it all comes down to though is that Apple knows what Apple is doing. They are within $15 billion of Microsoft’s market cap and if the markets hold they will pass even Exxon as the US’s most valuable company.

I have no reply for the wall paper stuff…… I use my iPhone in regards to #1 Being productive, #2 keeping in the loop and then #3 Entertainment. I suppose it might be neat to play around with what I can put up as wall paper or “screens”, but honestly I just like my equipment to work the way I need it to so I can hang out with my kids after I get done with business.

Kickball with the kids or new ROM’s?
Trampoline with the kids or new Screens?

Technology is meant to allow me freedom from it, not to be glued to it. There is a Russian Billionaire that just bought the New Jersey Nets Basketball team who doesn’t own a cell phone, doesn’t own a computer (for his person, you know his employees have them) He has done pretty could without configuring anything or Flashing ROM’s or hacking or jailbreaking or anything else.

      • http://abampho.blogspot.com johnny cevallos

Where are the stats that show how many iPhones 1st gen to the present 3Gs are still in use? Compare that to the each and every model of any other manufacturer. I doubt you’ll find any iPhones contributing to any landfills. Seriously, the iPhone is the Mac of the mobile phone. Sure they are going to compare Motorola’s, Nokia’s and whoever elses wannabe phone to the “Real Deal”. Apple set the bar with one device that has evolved to what it is today .Within the 4 years since its debut, who else has been able to set the standard consistently with only one model?

      • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

let’s face it they are out selling the iphone because they have more hand sets.

      • Brye

Do keep in mind that Android as a whole has over 50 and some odd number of phones. iPhone, a single device (well, different generations but you get it), sold over 8 million units. The only reason Android is selling is because its in multiple phones, if it was confined to one phone and yearly upgraded, no one would even care. Don’t get me wrong, I love Android, but I do have to give it up to Apple for making one device so popular.

      • Big Bud

“Buy one get one free.” That not by any mean “out selling” but giving them away.

    • S6DRVR

I agree, somewhat. Most cell phone companies drop a few phones a year while Apple only releases one on one carrier. They are missing out on alot of business and market share. On the other hand, manufacturing one handset using one technology (GSM) is more cost effective that having to set up two manufacturing processes, possibly by two different companies. Their manufacturer maybe able to produce both, but considering the demand for the iphone upon release, it would be tough for one to keep up with demand if they have to switch processes every couple of days. Its all about making money and I’m sure getting the iphone to other providers would be profitable Apple, but there are other factors to consider. Only Apple knows what Apple’s objectives are. I have a M.S. in Engineering Tech and I’m lean/six sigma champion at a major manufacturer so don’t think that I’m just an idiot that loves phones.

I do think that if Apple doesn’t make a big change in the next year, they risk losing their competitive advantage. Making a CDMA version of the phone might not be it though. CDMA is not the future anyways.

      • Jarrett

        @ S6DRVR,

To your last paragraph. In twelve years I have seen a similar statement at least four times a year. Somehow everyone is an expert on what Apple should do. The problem in the last twelve years has been the only expert on Apple, is, well, Apple. There success is without equal in that time frame.

      • S6DRVR

Which is why I said what I “Think” Apple should do. Apple is the only one that knows its strategy and I don’t work for Apple, nor do I want to. Apple is very good at what it does. They can turn something old back new again. I don’t claim to be an expert on Apple.

      • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

remember Verizon turned Apple down for the iphone in 2007

    • Cold Dead Fingers

What the hell are you smoking?????? There are 90+ million iPhone OS devices that have been sold. In what way possible, does that make iPhone is irrelevant?!?! Apple just fucking launched the iPad, which still has incredible demand, and that’s for both wifi and (none contract) 3G models!! I love to burst your bubble and the only relevant OS right now is iPhone OS. If you think all those “flocking” developers only develop for Android, you’re a bigger sucker than I thought. iPhone OS is priority because of the overwhelming popularity.

The iPhone may be losing right now because we are at the verge of an iPhone refresh, but Apple still has two other iPhone OS options that are selling better than ever right now.

    • http://www.thegraphicmac.com Jim

Wow, another level of stupid reached with that comment…

  • Supersonicly 4G :]

HTC EVO? umm yesss sooo much better than this POS

  • Justin

Hope you enjoy that Evo freezing like most of HTC devices do.

Also, VZWHoustonRegionalManager, “DROIDs been able to do this for years already. FAIL APPLE!” when was it that VZW began to carry your “Droids”?

    • Amanda

I’m an avid apple fan but in HTC’s defense they have gotten better due to the fact that they are equipped with more memory.

Now onto VZWHoustonRegionalManager, I’m in agreeance with Justin, exactly how long has Verizon had the android? Not as long as AT&T has carried Apple. So to that I say, “FAIL VZWHoustonRegionalManager”!

  • Jim Howard

    Yawn…the iPhone is so 2008.

    • I’m on Verizon but headed to Iphone country

double yawn jim howard is so 1910

  • Mustafa

It’s all hype right now, HTC will have the first forward facing and conference allowing camera but the Iphone “HD” will perfect the forward facing camera subject like copy and paste, its horrible on the htc and hard to see where my finger is on, the word and all.

    • MikeD

Thats exactly it. First to market don’t mean squat. What matter is producing a quality product/experience.

      Off topic:

Which threads get the absolute most trolls? Because for some reason if its an Apple related thread it overwhelmingly gets the most trolls I have ever seen.

      • Jarrett

People for the most part are complete failures at life. 97% to be exact. So they take any chance they can to critique anything/anyone who happens to be successful. These people point without noticing that there are more fingers pointing towards them than pointing away. Successful people (the other 3%, for those unable to do the math) just worry about what made them successful and double down on that. As I always say:

“Losers complain about doing their best, winners go home and fuck the prom Queen.”

That quote is a fact in life as well as a complete truth. If you disagree with that or the quote you are typical of the first part.

  • DJ Megatron

Rus I should have scrolled down further, lol. My bad.

  • andy

Just an observation – there’s a few on here complaining that video calling will be almost pointless due to limited coverage etc.. but don’t forget, the iPhone is sold worldwide – just look at tethering as an example.. works just fine in most countries, just not over there, so just cos the US can’t support it doesn’t mean it’s a pointless feature

I’m in the Uk and we’ve got a choice of 3 networks, all with more than adequate levels of coverage for video calling to not be a problem :)

just an observation.. you can go back to moaning about AT&T and winding each other up about the Evo now…

    • Jarrett

      @ andy,

My apologies from America. Most people here happen to think that things begin and end here. They don’t realize that there are six billion people that don’t live in the United States of America. It is the very reason they are hung up on the “Android” has a bigger share in the US than the iPhone. Not all us Yanks forget that the world is much larger than our Country.

      • Ted

The Android has nowhere close to more share than the iPhone… the Android is at 12 million, the iPhone is now at 65 million. And the iPhone is growing far faster, so please check facts before you post. America invented the Cell Phone and it’s where all the action is despite the huge land area to cover in real time.

      • Shumdit

6 Billion? I thought we had killed most of the non-Americans under Bush’s presidency.

  • bonesb

So, back to the story, Apple iPhone video conferencing info…

  • http://www.stevenmattera.com Steven Mattera

Great photoshop… fooled everyone. The next generation iPhone is suppose to have a higher resolution screen. These screenshot have a 320 width. Try harder next time…

    • joey

uh, the photos are clearly altered by the site. omg a bgr logo ON HIS IPHONE? clearly it’s a fake.
      lrn2photoshop.

      • trevor

Surely your not so stupid that you think that BGR watermark is a logo on the actual phone. BGR watermarks its pictures so that retards like you don’t use them without permission!

    • andy

I’ve noticed that too – all the iphone OS4 wallpapers that you can download are at the resolution of the current screen – I did wonder if they should be higher if indeed the new iphone has a higher res screen

  • http://bestbuy.com BestBuyMobile

I think its hilarious how butt hurt you apple guys get over android. If you don’t like it, don’t use it. I don’t like the iphone because I think its overrated, but I’m not on here trashing it. Technology is great – so buy a phone you like and move on.

    • http://www.thegraphicmac.com Jim

Nobody is butt hurt over Android. Most of us “Apple guys” could care less about it, and know full well that it will serve as short term competition at best.

  • sean76

People need to really relax! First off Apple is a fire breathing monster, they have the know how to crush all in there way. This front facing cam with video chat will be the best on the market, hands down! When apple does something, they pretty Much like to get it right. The bashing with apple is stupid! As for Verizon, come on! Can’t some people read, 5 years , over in 2012. Period, end of story. people either forget, or haven’t been around long enough. VERIZON SAID NO TO APPLE WHEN THEY APPROACHED THEM ABOUT THE IPHONE! Yes, for all those that don’t know, VZW said no! they wanted branding on the device, they didn’t want visual voicemail, they wanted to bloat it with all there vz nav cap, etc! So Steve went to at&t, and at&t basically changed a lot of stuff on there end to fit the iPhone in. So just cause VZW wants in now doesn’t mean Apple does. there is a relationship between the Death Star and Apple, and at&t is fixing there network everyday to make the next iPhone a big success. say what u want haters, it still doesn’t change the fact that Apple changed the game. And not to take anything away from Android or the EVO, It’s a great OS, and that’s a great device that will help Srint in a lot of ways. All just facts…

  • geeksavvyGAL

wow the bgr viewers post such serious comments. RELAX PEOPLE.

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

  • veison

well i work for verizon and are store is located in the moutains and at&t 3g covrage start getting bad in canton and verizon cover all the north ga and many other places in the usa and more countrys and and verizon has more clients then and mobile service places

    • Shumdit

Wow, trying to read that run on sentence made my head hurt. I hope you are not in any higher position that cleaning toilets at that Verizon store. If you are in management then the company has gone to hell.

  • Greg Gebhardt

I am not sure about Verison but T-Mo sucks for service and reception. I can not remember having a dropped call with AT&T so I got to stick with what is working for me!

  • jonathan T

It really still amazes me when Apple haters keeps comparing one phone, one carrier to just about different kind of devices with different versions android os and different carriers.

  • jonathan T

Oh, I can also see front facing video cams on android, blackberry, samsung and so on and so on after the Iphone 4 comes out. They probably have at least one in the works now.

  • http://zevkli.in zevkli in

You mean another EVO fanchick. :)

  • Dave

just to clear up the 4G the 4G stands for forth generation for the Iphone not the 4G network that isnt available yet it’s only in the testing stage.
