Android 2.1 now available for the Sprint HTC Hero

General

SprintHTCHero

At long last, the much anticipated Android 2.1 update for the Sprint HTC Hero has been released to the public. For those not already rocking a rooted, updated device, this carrier-sanctioned update will bring your handset into the 21st century with Android 2.1, an updated Sense UI, and a few minor bug fixes. If you can stand the wait, the update should be pushed out to your handset in the upcoming days. For those who lack patience, when the new OS finally goes live on Sprint’s website, it can be downloaded and installed manually following the directions on Sprint’s support page. Enjoy that delicious eclair!

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

      Well played sir/ma’am, well played!

Moment update to 2.1 is also live on Sprint’s site.

  • StevenGlansburg

Damn, this update still doesn’t fix the biggest problem for the Hero… Sprint.

    • Oh Hell Yea

      Your a jackass.

    • Joe

Which must mean that Verizon sucks too because they are pretty much the same thing… Except Sprint is cheaper, has more perks, you get a phone that you don’t have to take back to the repair center every 2 weeks, and Sprint gives you MUCH better data services… Then if Sprint isn’t available you get to use Verizon’s slow as shit network for about $50 less a month. I’ve had both carriers, Verizon is a RIP OFF! Period.

The only thing that could possibly be more retarded than overpaying for Verizon every month is overpaying for AT&T (who’s network is even worse) just so you can have the boring ass iphone.

Your Personal opinion reeks of discontent, i bet your one of those users that had to call tech support to update your Hero.

    can’t wait to get it!!!

  • brett m

How does it compare to DamageControl?
Does it at least fix the ring lag? I’d re-flash if it fixed ring lag…

    Good to hear it’s out!

Why does the picture of the Hero show full bars of service? Everyone knows that Sprint service has 2 bars max and most of the time roaming or no service?

    • MobileGuru

      what are u like 5?

      • Mercado

Yes, I just crapped my pants while saying that and eating a string cheese as well.

      • Sprinter

Two things. You still crapped your pants when you were 5? And string cheese is too good.

    • RodneyKing

I can attest to that statement. When I had Sprint, no matter what city I was in I rarely had full bars, let alone a stable connection.

      • Joe

Funny I had that experience with Verizon, even though their coverage map showed all red, full service, 3G broadband everywhere around me, not a spot of white on the map for a 50 mile radius.

And guess what, it is Verizon’s network that Sprint uses when it’s roaming, and you pay less than Verizon charges their own customers to use it.

Nobody has full service everywhere… not even Verizon, even though everyone makes them out to be reincarnation of Jesus or something. Just because Verizon is more expensive doesn’t mean it is better.

    • Oh Hell Yea

      Your also a jackass!

      • RodneyKing

I’m a jackass for sharing my experience with Sprint? STFU, lowly Sprint kiosk worker!

  • drksilenc

beware if you root dont install this… it removes root access and there isnt another crack yet

  • Sky Dancer

The update for the Samsung Moment is also avaliable as well.

  • Cowboy

I noticed a lack of friend stream…. is friend stream only for the evo?

  • winston smith

this is bs! the original European version of the hero came out way before the sprint version and it’s still on 1.5! I can’t see how htc can justify doing this. get on it already!!!

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

    • OpenSourceIsJustaPhrase

Why don’t you root it like 0.07% of all Android owners?

    wow…..wow….wow…a new dimension of andriod

  • mercado

The animated backgrounds are cool! My whole screen is cloudy. Woah dude totally tripping.

Is anyone else having a problem with downloading the HTC Sprint Hero 2.1 update. I have tried it several times each time I get a “fail” message

    Thanks

  • David

I don’t have a PC so I went to the Sprint Store on Westwood. They told me they couldn’t upgrade me because they were downloading the software from the HTC site at 1k or so. I wasn’t going to wait the 11 hours for it to download. What a joke. Get it together HTC and Sprint.

Why don’t you just do it yourself, all you need is the computer you are already using. Stop making others do your work for you, you do wipe your own backside yourself, right?

  • http://freeryder05.blogspot.com Spencer Moore

Just root the phone and you can have 2.1, friendstream, overclock, app2sd really anything you want.
This will probably be the new base for rom cooks anyway. Save yourself the official update and root it and you’ll be running some form of it unless a legend build looks better…

I thought this update was not available OTA and therefore cannot be pushed to devices? It’s about 118 MB … only superphones like the Pre can handle huge OTA updates like that! Using the download and install method, my Hero updated quickly and easily … it was done within 10 minutes.
