HP managed to surpass the Street’s expectations as the company saw profits grew by 28% in the quarter ended April 30th. Capitalizing on strong demand for PCs and servers, revenue came in at $30.8 billion with an adjusted income of $1.09. Analysts were expecting to see $1.05 per share. This performance allowed HP to hold onto its title as the world’s largest manufacturer of personal computers. HP is predicting that the current quarter will see bring in $29.7 to $30 billion in revenue, with an adjusted income of $1.05 to $1.07 per share. Shares in HP are up 0.41% in after hours trading.

UPDATE: During a call with analysts, HP CEO Mark Hurd said that webOS will be coming to slates and web-connected printers. Slates with webOS is something easily imaginable, but printers? Whatever it is HP is planning, we hope it’s good.

Listening to the conf live…Mark is giving the finger to Microsoft. Loving it!

Paraphrasing…. “We got Palm for the OS, to control it, and the user experience.”

It starts with mobile platform, how long before it gets into desktops / servers / etc. ? :)

HPQ’s purchase of Palm for webOS for more than a BILLION dollars is going to go down in history as one of the dumbest corporate gaffs yet.

No, it doesn’t matter that HPQ has billions of cash laying around – a billion bucks is a billion bucks. And it’s going to take ANOTHER billion bucks to get webOS working where they want it to work.

Better to have gone with Android and bought a hundred million bucks worth of user interface experience instead.

Please tell us all why WebOS is so “bad” Gauntlet Down.

The “gesture area” on the Pre and Pixi is just one example of the type of innovation that is only possible when you control both the hardware and the software.

Gauntlet you have NO idea what you are talking about. webOS is the best thing Palm ever did. Now with HP it’s going to shake things up.

HP can do whatever with WebOS, but the question is … can the lure in the developers? Applications is what will make or break WebOS.

  • young hova

But jon hp can do what google does.. Instead of paying people to carry android hp can pay developers to make apps..
