BlackBerry Pearl 3G on the verge of release with Virgin Mobile

Exclusive

It looks like the Canadian BlackBerry faithful won’t have to wait too much longer to get their hands on the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, as one of our Virgin Mobile connects just sent us in a bunch of pictures of a newly arrived dummy model. We have been told to expected the actual devices to arrive in stores very, very shortly, and that the 3-year price will be $49.99, with the option for a 30-day contract at $349.99. One more pic after the jump.

Thanks, T!

Soon as this lands at AT&T, this will be my first smartphone.

If you’re the Milton from Office Space, I can understand why.

I said no salt. NO salt.

LOL @ your first smartphone being a pearl… Waste of 30$ a month in data.

Despite getting razzed from the guys above, my first smartphone was a Pearl and I was very happy. I don’t really understand the aversion to the Pearl (presuming you ignore some of the shortcomings of bb in general). The Pearl can do the vast majority of “high-end” bbs at a fraction of the cost. Plus, you can’t beat the size. And, I’ve never been able to match my typing speed from the Pearl – the larger buttons allow your fingers to fly much quicker (albeit with the nuisance of SureType sometimes guessing wrong).

But on to more serious buisiness.. Buying a pearl is like paying for herpies..

    Sincerely,

It’s herpes, not herpies. Herpies is the plural of herpy, which isn’t a word. So buying a Pearl is like paying for something that doesn’t exist. I think your comment still holds truth. Good job.

Thank you sir, I appreciate your continual guidance.. and I’ll have your dry cleaning asap..

No problem. And good luck with that herpes thing.

    They still make these things?
Or better yet people still buy these?
I wonder if they know that true smartphones do more than email?
Ah well, to each his or her own, I just hate to see people have the wool pulled over their eyes like so.

    • Really

People like different things?! Shocking news!

      I have a BlackBerry… and I don’t even have email on it.
I enjoy having a unified message inbox, where all of my facebook, twitter, and windows live messenger conversations, notifications and messages are all stored in one place. Instead of opening multiple applications, I can just go to the message application and if I want, I can even assign it to a convenience key.

      -_-

Yeah, those things on the homescreen are pretty nice also, you should try it sometime.

Come back in 5 years and RIM will still be making the same phones as today. Same OS too.

yippiddee doo..Pearl..give me a freaking break RIM

People seriously don’t understand the massive cellphone market. I’m sorry did I see the Incredible / iPhone on Virgin or even available as PAYG data plan? Right you need to pay full price and last I looked at&t actually blocked iPhone from their GO plans.

BB pearl was a very popular model, woman / teens love the thing and at less then $100 it will sell a boatload. Maybe not to the uber smartphone fanboys but it’s not designed for them.

Yep, there’s getting to be serious volume in pre-paid phones. Should hold up well against the LG’s of this world.
