Is this the HTC Mondrian?

Rumor

htc-mondrian

The render you see above is of the HTC Mondrian — or at least according to some forum dwellers at xda-developers. Found within a .cab file from a recently leaked Windows Phone 7 ROM, it is said that the Mondrian features a 4.3″ WVGA display, 1.3GHz processor, HD-capable camera in excess of 5 megapixels, and digital compass. Interestingly enough, for a device believed to be headed to AT&T, the Mondrian’s Qualcomm QSD8650A/B Snapdragon processor supports both GSM and CDMA. Of course this doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll see a dual-mode model of the Mondrian or a variant of it launch with another carrier, but it is pretty interesting to know nonetheless.

Ah, we finally get to see the 45 nm Snapdragon in a phone.

The extra 300 MHz aside, expect to see up to 30% greater energy efficiency out of this SoC.

The result is a 1.3 GHz processor that actually consumes slightly less power than the current 1 GHz Snapdragon, and because calculations can be performed more quickly, the CPU spends more time at idle, further increasing power efficiency.

Just getting this in before people who don’t know what they’re talking about start complaining about how putting bigger Snapdragons in phones is going to eat too much power. I’ve written an article on Snapdragon SoC performance compared to TI and Samsung SoCs, so I can say I’m reasonably well informed on the subject. :)

I agree, its a step in the right direction and coming along faster then older steppings by qually..

Though you have to remember how many older 65nm chips are out there yet. It may be a good spell before we see the 45nm version if the past is any indicator.

Though, MS and manufacturers may force Qually to eat them to satisfy new demands coming up.

I am curious to see how this goes.

PASS MY ASS! For what I do this is the best phone I could have both functionally and aesthetically. I’m on a Palm Pre seriously considering an EVO but can’t quite get sold on Android due to its overall aesthetics. Android just looks like a lil’ kids’ phone. And yes I’ve test driven the Incredible and it’s pretty good. However, if it came down to the Mondrian and EVO same launch day….. Mondrian hands down!

A Pre owner thinking a Android looks like a kids phone.
      That made me smile.

WPS7 will be competing with iPhone, not Android because WPS7 and iPhone are closed systems. Also think WPS7 is a little late in coming. Apple will steal it’s thunder and there will be other over 1.3Ghz processors in Android phones.

WPS7 may be better than WM6.5 and earlier, but it won’t be enough to stop it’s downward spiral in market share unless MSFT starts giving a lot more to the OEMs and carriers – NOT going to happen!

Hey, maybe Nokia will give up on it’s platform and just go with MSFT. That’s a way for WPS7 to stay relevant.

Surprising that it’s going to AT&T? Thanks a lot guys. Thanks for being surprised that a decent phone might be thrown our way… then again, I can’t blame you. AT&T hasn’t gotten a decent new phone since they got sucked into the iPhone. I like my iPhone and all, but the whole never getting another good phone thing is starting to piss me off.

This is a step in the right direction for AT&T, but unless they get some good Android phones too, they are going to start losing a lot of smart phone business. A lot of us will be leaving when our iPhone 3G contracts are up in the summer for a carrier that actually sells smartphones.

I dont think this will go to just AT&T. The reason is, the dual bands CDMA and GSM…

Can’t wait to leave my iPhone behind. Evo or HD3 in my future. Tired of the apple oppression.

Hey I don’t have an iphone, I sold it 6 months ago. But thanks for trying. I will however be looking at these news Windows phones, especially this one as it looks sweet.

Looks great! I’m sure a very similar form factor will be floating into an Android phone soon enough.

Mondrian going at&t? bleh should have gone to either T-Mobile which I’m currently in (I have HD2), or Verizon Wireless.

so what stopped HTC from puttin 1.3 Ghz in the EVO???

  • tande04

I’ll take it if it is.

  • zbarvian

If this did come to AT&T, I’d say farewell to my beloved iPhone. Windows phone 7 is very intriguing to me and these specs are just ridiculous. All I hope is that it has an AMOLED display and windows phone 7 gets multitasking before launch, even iPhone has it now, its foolish to not include it.

“Mondrian’s Qualcomm QSD8650A/B Snapdragon processor supports both GSM and CDMA.”

Sounds like a Verizon global phone to me

  • Ira

Be VERY careful with battery life on those specs!!!

  • zbarvian

@Ira, actually the new Snapdragon chip is 30% more efficient which would probably make for decent battery life even with the screen.

  • Fyelton

This is so old. Why does it not die?
