Analyst expects Apple to burn through 24 million next-gen iPhones in 2010

It’s not even official, but that’s not stopping Digitimes Research analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from estimating that Foxconn — manufacturer of the next iPhone — will deliver some 24 million units to Apple in 2010. According to Kuo, an initial shipment of 4.5 million devices will be followed throughout the rest of the year with 19.5 million additional units. Kuo also echoed John Gruber’s claims that the iPhone will have a 960×640 IPS display with FFS technology for a higher quality image with better visibility under direct sunlight, and that the phone will have 512MB of memory, or double the memory of the iPhone 3GS. This assertion is at odds with the findings of a recent next-gen iPhone prototype teardown which revealed the iPhone to be using the same 1GHz A4 processor with 256MB of system DRAM as the iPad. A more capacious battery is said to be included thanks to a 33% thinner display. Anyone else going to be on pins and needles for the next 21 days until WWDC?

      We’ll it does some things really good but I’m really surprised how horrible it is in other aspects. On 3GS outgoing call audio is crappy beyond belief, super quiet and muddy, speakerphone almost unusable, wifi RF sensitivity is nothing but criminal, bluetooth won’t pair with most of factory car kits. In strictly phone aspects iphone is no better that cheapest chinese piece of s*it and everybody seems to be happy with? wtf?

    I’m actually really excited about June 7th. I have it circled on my calendar at work. I will probably be upgrading from my 3G. Why? Well, AT&T really doesn’t have a good Android option, I refuse to switch back to VZW, and while the EVO would be a great phone, Sprint is neglecting the 5th biggest city in the US (phoenix) to have 4G this year. Also, AT&T will have 14.4 HSPA+ at the end of 2010, which is faster than any carrier can provide in my area. If Android can include some key features I’m waiting on in 2.2 (store apps to SD card, better quality apps, more big company apps, fix to the fragmentation), then I will for sure be willing to try an Android phone. But I would still need a good one on AT&T. As of right now, bring on iPhone 4th gen. I’m excited. And we’ll see where things go in the next year…

    I will be getting the new iphone even if it is on At&t because I am moving out of my deadzone of an apartment on July 1st. I’d prefer if it was on Verizon so I could get a discount with school/work, but I’ll just go on my parent’s family plan like your typical Droid owner.

        I’m buying it. I’ll be downloading from the Internet 4x faster than the iPhone. Then with Android 2.2 later this summer I will be USB tethering and creating my own wifi hotspot. How’s that tethering working with the AT&T iPhone? Oh, it’s still not. I know, I will be dumping my 3GS shortly.

        I can teather on my iPhone. It’s called jailbreak. It does wonders! And I’m jealous that you’re in one of the 27 markets with 4G. I wish I was in one of those areas. But I think 14.4 HSPA+ will do me just fine.

    I wouldn’t piss on VZW’s head if their hair was on fire. Had service when I hot the phones and one day it got to where I had to walk around my front yard to make a call. They still wanted ETFs to cut them off and when I sold the phones I found out from all 3 buyers they couldn’t activate them cuz they were on the lost or stolen list!!! what a joke.

    Can’t wait for the Iphone. I think the leaked version looked uglier and rather have them not mess around with it. But hey it’s the software that matters most. 4G should have a significant improvement in battery and i’m all heels for them but they shouldn’t go too overboard with any software options that majority of the people don’t use. If it sucks i’m going Blackberry Bold.

    Who is everyone kidding…this phone is going to sell like crazy because the average person doesn’t think about specs, they want the hip product…..Apple can put an apple logo on a toilet and people will buy it…..Apple doesn’t offer many features, but the features their products do, they do them really well. For me, I am getting an HTC Evo….why? because its better than the 4G, its on a network thats far bigger, and more reliable where I live and travel to….Android is a great OS thats getting even better…..Sprint’s network might not be the strongest in all places but for the price they offer plans at one can use the 90% rule (works 90% or better most of the time)…If ATT or VZW were priced similar to Sprint I would of probably had a Droid back in November, but price does matter, thats why i drive a Honda not a Beamer

    apple haters flock to every apple posts like sheep(ironic isn’t it). they say they don’t care for anything apple, but they take time to read and post trash. I think that’s a big sign of insecurity, bashing apple constantly to make them feel better. I don’t even go to android postings simply because I’m not interested. I realize this happens on both sides but apple haters are more rampant. I always think that android is a good alternative to the iPhone cause’ I can’t imagine a society where there is only one kind of phone and always nice to have a choice.
