Rumor

tinhte-macbook-specs

Vietnam is turning into the place to be for Apple prototype leaks. Earlier this week, Vietnamese blog Tinhte posted up images of a 4th generation iPhone prototype and, today, the same blog is showing off what they claim is the next generation 13″ MacBook. The leaked model reportedly features a 13.3 inch LED-backlit glossy display, a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive and a NVIDIA 320M graphics card with 256MB of shared SDRAM. Supply chain rumors suggest this new MacBook and its larger siblings may launch in the upcoming weeks, even possibly Tuesday. For those that want a closer look at what Apple may have in store for its next generation consumer notebook, hit the jump for a few snapshots of the machine and Tinhte’s hands-on video.

Yawn….My 2 year old HP(yet still runing strong) has better specs. Im guessing that this is going to be priced over $1000 because of it’s Apple branding?

  • Cynder Gray

that is such bunk. It is true that someone can buy a Windows laptop for much less money than an Mac laptop but it is not true that you can get a similar spec machine for the same price.

Just to verify, I ran through both HP and Dell laptop configurations and found that similarly equipped machines are within $50 of each other in cost, provided this model sells for the expected $999 of the current model it’s replacing.

Interesting I done a comparison between a Mac Book Pro and a Dell and the difference was £81. I would prefer to pay an extra £81 for the better design, better battery life, less of a problem with viruses and the better OS.

I dont even know where to begin disagreeing with u about ur claim that apparently Macs are superior to Windows based comps so i wont even waste my time. And FYI my gf has a macbook pro for the past 2-3 years and she has been threw 4 power adapters and 2 batteries, it has crashed on her before, and better design isnt really worth the extra $200 especially when ur talking about a less powerful piece of machinery…but like i said before im not even gunna waste my time.

      • Cynder70

Aside from a preference about which OS, the observations are empirical, supported by data.

Depending on usage, batteries need to be replaced, hard drives wear out, chargers get abused.. these are wear items.

No “extra $200″ about it. An Apple product is priced competitively and similarly to similar Windows hardware.

      • FROM A FRIEND

HEY DUMBSH*T, you did waste your time even looking at this blog or even typing in it moron and who cares what your girl has, she probably doesnt even know how to turn it on, shes clueless just like you. Macs and windows based computers are like cars. a mercedes 6 cyl is so much faster than a chevy 6cyl. mac gets the top of the line processors, they get the highest bidder, now microsoft gets either the lowest or midlevel bidder, why, because of profit. thats the only way they can hit an affordable market with out going under.

  • Jah

looks good…but i hate shared video ram.

Re: “Supply chain rumors suggest this new MacBook and its larger siblings may launch in the upcoming weeks, even possibly Tuesday.”

What “larger siblings” are you referring to Kelly?

  • Reggie

Apple may want to consider bringing it’s production lines here to the states.

    • Buiya

Why would Apple want to do this? so you can pay even more for their products?

  • ItsMeBeaches

Wow a core 2 duo processor…my current (Windows) laptop has that…but wait its like 3 years old…my next is gunna be a quad core (which is pretty much standard now…sorry i mean standard for windows based pc/laptop)…so how exactly is this a big deal?

    • John B

My Hp is almost that old, but I’d like to have more than 3 hours battery life UNDER 7 lbs! My HP with extended battery weighs 7lbs and barely gets 3 hours battery life. Sorry, Mac IS worth it.

    • Cynder70

Not in this price range it’s not.

    • RJB

My five year old Mac Book Pro has a 2 duo processor, the new Mac Book Pro’s have i5 and i7. Dell and HP etc have a mixture of old and newer processors too. So nobody is saying it’s a big deal or not. It’s just another option.

    • Cold Dead Fingers

What the fuck are you smoking? Quad cores aren’t event 1% of computers sold, nor are they 1% of available PCs on the market. and, on top of that, you went further and said laptops. Get the fuck out you PC fanboy moron.

  • maxpayne79

i think this is an apple fanboy joke or something. or someone leaked the wrong specs cause i have the first unibody macbook that came out in November of ’08, and the specs are identical with the exception of the vid card. i have the 9400m and the new one is the 320m and apparently the difference between the two is the 320m uses slightly less power, thats it. I have 256mb or ram and so does this one. Im also running the 2.4ghz core 2 duo w/ 3mb L2 cash @ 1066 on 6gb of 1066 DDR3 ram (updated from 2) with a 256 gb HD and a 13.3 inch display…so…don’t know what this is but ya. Unless of course these will be given away for like 700 or 800 bucks then ya, it’s real otherwise it has to be some false intel.

    • Cynder70

This is the lowest of the MacBooks. The smallest, thinnest spec version replacing the outgoing model. The new 15″ MacBook Pro line is using Intel i5 and i7 processors and upgraded hardware all around..

    • Cold Dead Fingers

You have the model they called a MacBook but it was really a MacBook pro. Back then, there were multiple option for MacBooks, meaning, your MacBook had 2-3 different options that could bring the price as high as $1,500. This new notebook is the real MacBook and will most likely be placed around the $1,000 mark.

  • T Man

Wow, a Core 2 Duo and two whole USB ports. Yep, those are some pretty impressive specs.

  • Flavio Ribeiro

As someone who has only bought Thinkpads for the last 10 years, I find these specs unimpressive.

For the same amount of money, I should be able to get a much faster Thinkpad, which will also be more reliable than anything else in the same price range.

Windows 7 makes MacOS X kind of pointless, so IMHO one would only buy a Mac for the white color scheme.

    • Cynder70

For $999 you will get similar specs in Windows hardware.

    • Cold Dead Fingers

And, guess what? In other people’s honest opinions Snow Leopard makes Win7 pointless. And, most of these people wouldn’t buy a PC for any reason, since they could just intsal windows if they wanted to, right on their Mac.

    • jah

hate to break it to you…but windows 7 still sucks and is a total osx ripoff, about a 7 years too late.

  • Crunch

Well said. I’ve also owned 12 ThinkPad’s in the past 10 years. I’ve been looking at Mac for the sole reason of a good screen ever since Lenovo stopped including IPS (Flexview) displays in its laptops.

I run OS X on my current ThinkPad in a dual-boot configuration, so it’s all good! :D I still prefer Windows 7, though.

SO apparently bgr has become a wesite that anyone that hates apple comments on how horrible apple’s products are. I’m gonna set up a web blog called ihateapplesoitelleveryonethatdosentcareandhavenofriendsexceptsothersthatalsohateapple.com haha then you people that hate apple can create a endless amount of blogs just to comment how horrible apple is. I have been reading bgr for about 4 years now and have learned that they like to write about apple. However, I don’t mind and continue to read this site quite frequently. So you ahould become accustome of this and what’s that called? Oh yeah get over it and your cool selves with your soo cool windows computers. And just go with the flow. I mean we already know you are unempressed, or know you have girlfriends with really bad apple computers so why comment about that? Maybe you should got to BGRaw.com (boy genius report about windows) and complain elsewhere. I own a pc computer. Yep I have an accer and like it, but you don’t care about that and either do I do about you windows bedroom fetishes….

    • Cynder70

What do you expect? This site doesn’t moderate their discussions to be factual or unbiased.

For a sense of what I mean in a charged atmosphere, check out http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com

No, at BGR is just everyone running around waving their banners. No factual discussion what so ever.

All you can do is fact-check and shrug your shoulders.

  • Nick

what? C2D….isn’t that like 2 years ago?? if it’s $999, then get a Sony laptop. they have all white cover n have more design to it than this macbook.

    • Cynder70

For $999 you’ll get a similarly spec’d computer in Sony.

      • RJB

I ran a load of price comparisons today and the difference between a Mac and other brands is very small. The Mac averages out at between £50 and £100 more expensive with similar or the same specs. People really need to do the comparisons before the mouth off assuming Mac are way more expensive.

  • maxpayne79

If they wanted to do a refresh, they should have put in the i3 chips in there to at least appear that they’re keeping up with times and interested in what the public wants. Not this from 3 years ago.

  • AJ

Looking at the curent listed Macbook and this one..

The current one has 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor

This “new one” has 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor

You’ll have to excuse me for not being extremely enthused
