Samsung's Galaxy S all but confirmed for life with T-Mobile

Rumor

tmo-galaxy-s

Samsung and T-Mobile might as well just let the cat out of the bag and announce they’re banding together for the launch of the Galaxy S. While watching it get fondled by Howard Choi on YouTube, we couldn’t help but note two things: 1) It’s model number was listed as the SGH-T959 (a dead giveaway), and 2) the appearance of several T-Mobile-related service icons. As we mentioned before, T-Mobile has yet to publicly say anything about the Galaxy S, so we’ll just have to sit tight in the event that until it does. If T-Mo had any brains whatsoever, they’d get this thing to market ASAP so it can do battle with the BlackBerry 9800, DROID Incredible, EVO 4G, and next-gen iPhone. Check out the video after… you know where.

I wonder if the Galaxy S will be release with 2.2? Once the N1 is sold at TMO locations with will most likely have 2.2 onboard…

    Yuss fantastic news!

  • Jon

AT&T really needs to make some new handset announcements soon or there are going to be a lot of people jumping ship for Android based phones when their contracts are up. Yes, the iPhone is a capable phone, but market analysis is certainly proving that there are many, many people shopping for something different.

If I’m not mistaken, Samsung announced this phone would hit all 4 major US carriers by the end of the year. That gives us (on AT&T) a chance. I’m hoping that is indeed the case. Their current selection of phones is horrendous.

    • Kevin

I am TOTALLY with you on this. My wife and I have an ATT plan and since it would cost me so much more to jump ship to another carrier, I’m stuck with ATT.

Good news is that Palm is with ATT and have heard from local ATT retailers that the HTC Desire and Legend are coming 3Q this year (June thru August), so just sit tight. The Dell Aero (Mini 3) will be released shortly (2Q) and is shown on the ATT site:

      http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-sales/promotion/aero.jsp

Also – remember – the new Dell Thunder, Lightining, and Smoke (one of which is Windows 7) is coming late in the year as well – very slick. ATT is slow coming around, but hopefully worth the wait.

    • DJ Megatron

Well it’s been said by Mr. Dell that the Dell Streak will be heading to AT&T by the end of the summer.

  • StevenGlansburg

I can’t stay with tmobile much longer. I used to say 3G was unimportant but it is now and tmobiles sucks regardless of what phone you have.

    • bob

well then you really dont want ATT.. I’m in a zone they say has ‘Highest’ signal on their coverage map (seattle suburbs) and have to go outside to make a call or use internet on an iphone…. screw that

    • justme

well bob if you were on a decent device for at&t you wouldnt have the signal issues.. the only ppl that have issues with at&t’s network are people on the jesus phone

    • Charles A

I beg to differ with you on that point. When I had my G1 I had little to no 3G issues at all. Now that I’ve got the HD2 (and I don’t know if this is just me or everybody) 3G is hit or miss at best. I am constantly having to disconnect and reconnect the data connection and there is constant fluctuation between 3G, Edge, and GPRS, whereas on Android I rarely had that problem.

    • Bunifa@SprintPOS

I’m confused as to why a VZWRegionalmanager (same pic under that name, same poster; you fail) has a T-Mobile phone? Troll

    • Briaking

I have had T-mobile for over 6 years and I have never, ever, never-ever had an issue. If you hate T-Mobile because of the service, maybe you should check out your phone. I am willing to move to Verizon, maybe, if they could figure out how to bring down there prices.

Really, At&t has a major problem with call connectivity not signal, I have several co-workers that have iPhones but the call quality and slow 3G data is comical. Verizon has great connectivity but again way too expensive.

  • bob

    Dear Tmobile
If your coverage didn’t SUCK i’d switch

  • Andy

    Wonder if it’s has hsdpa+

Don’t bash T-Mobile. I’ve been with them for 3 years and since 3g rolled out it’s blazing fast. I tether with my TP2 and get faster internet than local dedicated companies. I have perfect service in the 100sq miles I travel most often. If it’s bad in your area, use a different company simple. Don’t stick with something that is poor in your vacinity then bitch about it when you as a consumer have options. Now about the phone…nice…but I’m waiting for a HTC HD2 style device with a slide qwerty be it with windows phone (6.5 or 7) or android. I need power AND QWERTY.

  • Roman

Why did Samsung cripple this phone with their ugly TouchWiz overlay. Who on earth fins it attractive…

    • Mike

You can probably disable TouchWiz and use the Android default like I can disable Sense UI on my HTC Magic.

  • James

Hope this is true and comes out soon. Tmobile needs to release it fast, so they don’t lose more customers. Hope the phone has flash and 2.2. I need to upgrade from my pearl 8100.

Video’s been removed by user. Someone with a sharp eye is causin controversy at BGR! Gotta love it!

  • JR

Hmmm video removed by user, OR directed to remove.

  • JFA

I agree. T-Mobile should DEFINITELY market the hell out of this phone like they did with the lowly mytouch.

I’m hearing nothing but greatness from this thing, i just don’t like the UI, but the hardware is definitely enough to make me change my mind. Too bad i have a Nexus already.

  • Scott

I was really hoping this would come to AT&T first. Where at the HTC Android phones for AT&T? I want a different option from the iPhone. But I am glad Tmo is getting this. They’ve been needing a good high end Android phone. Yet, at the same time, it would be nice to see AT&T even get ONE high end Android phone. Is that so much to ask for?

    • Rahul

AT&T got the Backflip, and they nerfed it.

They removed the option to install non-Market apps which puts a damper on hacking, and they also switched out all the Google search apps and widgets for Yahoo’s search app which is not as good.

  • vzw rocks

To bad the video was taken down. Ive seen a ton of review type videos and this one was actually well done. o well.

  • Rahul

“This video has been removed by the user.”

Any alternate source for that video?

  • FML

Even if all the other carrier’s are kicking Tmo’s ass, there’s no way that Tmobile will release the phone anytime soon. It would crush their MT Slide sales.

I bet this will come out in August after the Slide has had a chance to sell to the uneducated masses. The BGR crowd will be smart enough to wait but everyone else will probably eat up the “Flagship Cutting Edge MT Slide” sales pitch.

  • chris

If it’s true,I’m signing up to Tmo.

  • the rever

Ahhhh!!! There’s no xenon flash–wait a minute–there’s no flash at all! Bummer.

I’m waiting for a great android camera phone to replace my Nokia n95. I’ve been hoping for the Motorola Motoroi to surface on Tmo, and I’ve got my eye on the forthcoming Nokia N8, but this Sammie would have been mighty tempting. Alas. . .

  • Oscar

    video is down…

  • HEMI 922

OM, I am very lucky that already copied it by youtube downloader before user shut it down..

    • SRT4

Can you send me the vid, I havent seen it since they put it down

  • Miguel

    Make it so.

  • Benny

I like this form factor better than the EVO.

Why? It’s still a large 4″ screen but not quite so wide looking. For me it’s the perfect screen size.

And yes finally a screen that won’t wash out in the sun. That has been my biggest complaint about the Droid.

Looks like we’re going to get HSPA + here in Los Angeles any day now so I’m coming back to T-Mobile.

  • LaToya (AKA Digital Nightmare)

I like it, but they should just launch it with stock Android 2.2. That overlay on the OS isn’t appealing at all, and it would take forever for Samsung to update it.

  • josh

So would you get the Galaxy S or the EVO 4G, if you had great service in your area on both T-Mobile and Sprint?
    Decisions….

    • josh

so guys which would you choose? galaxy S with it’s awesome super AMOLED or the EVO4G, if you got exceptional quality on sprint and Tmo in your area???
