Google to halt Nexus One online sales, focus on retail channels

Google-Nexus-One-8

The writing was on the wall when the Nexus One failed to materialize with both Verizon Wireless and Sprint and today, Google confirmed what the tech world had suspected — its online model for handset sales has failed. In a blog post, Google announced that it is working with upcoming global partners to bring the Nexus One to retail channels. Once the handset is firmly established with a solid brick and mortar presence, Google will halt all online handset sales. Its current website will be used to showcase and not sell current Android offerings. Anyone disappointed that you will have to go through your carrier to snag a Nexus One?

Some ppl are knotts to think the N1 kind of dead bcz of the bad sales model originally taken by google…they are WRONG WRONG WRONG. This phone if placed in stores now will out sell many many top of the line devices. If u play with this device u will absolutely love it..it feels perfect in ur hand and very fast aswell. This is a more sexier looking phone than the HD2, Incredible, Evo 4G etc and the differences between them are not much..a few megs on the cam and also screen size. Some may like the the 4.3 inch on the HD2 and Evo4 but it feels a little combersome in hand…the N1 feels just perfect. They all have the android 2.1 except for the HD2..so basically the same user expirience. I am pretty certain the Nexus one will far out sell the HD2 if it gets to Tmo stores today..and will do way better than any of the phones predicted to be coming to Magenta so far. With the price of $179 for new customers or a lil higher for ppl w/ upgrades..they will constantly be out of stock..also no restrictions on the price plan of ur choice or those w/ family plans. Oh one more thing Google/HTC/Tmo…throw in a few ad spots on Tv or print media…let the masses know this monster is out there…Nexus one rules : )

Just a few more thoughts..i don’t think selling online through Google was a total failure..it just needed to be urgmented by instore sales where some customers could play w/it. Bcz when i placed my order..i recieved my phone the next day b4 noon..very fast. I also wish HTC/Google will work on a battery that will give u abt 1600mAh or more and fit on the same slot w/out undermining the profile of the phone

exactly… i dont mind being in a contract especially if i can get a sweet phone for $200… i wasn’t going to dish out $500 for the nexus one on at&t… now that the htc evo 4g for sprint is coming out, it probably time to switch from big blue to big yellow. i gotta try the 30 day trial to make sure coverage is good..
