Report: 10 million CDMA iPhones on order

Rumor

verizon-wireless-iphone

DigiTimes has released a pretty interesting report this morning, one that would have us believe that Apple has just placed an order for a whole whack of CDMA iPhones. The CDMA iPhone is to be built by Pegatron — a subsidiary of ASUStek — and the company is expected to deliver up to 10 million devices per year. Naturally, both Pegatron and Apple have declined to comment, but it’s pretty interesting that this rumor closely mirrors what the WSJ recently reported. Factor in that just two days ago we discovered that Verizon is working on an iPhone advertising blitz targeted for the end of summer and we’d say these CDMA iPhone rumors are getting really, really hard to ignore.

Actually, an iPhone over Verizon’s EVDO network will not handle the processing of data better than an iPhone over AT&T’s HSPA network. HSPA is the better and more reliable technology, and it is faster. The slower technology will detract from the phone’s qualities and don’t forget it wouldn’t have simultaneous voice and data.

thats something to say to early don’t you think. It might be a theory but we wont know untill the iphone actually comes to verizon..Well see in the summer if this cdma iphone really comes out

      • LaToya (AKA Digital Nightmare)

It’s not coming, you know… It is a rumor created by this pathetic blog since they have slow news days and have lost all of their readers to the more reliable Engadget.

I hope T-Mobile gets a UMA iPhone with HSPA+ 21 Mbps, it would be the best ever. Eff AT&T and Verizon.

    • skim

HSPA+? And where exactly is that available? TMo is long ways from catching up to At&t, let alone Verizon.

      • LaToya (AKA Digital Nightmare)

Are you mad Verizon is still bugging along with EVDO, which lacks the simultaneous voice and data of HSPA, not to mention HSPA+ is lightening fast compared to it?

      • hutcher

dude are you some kind of troll? Verizon is already testing LTE networks. HSPA+ is awful compared to LTE’s possibilities. (theoretical 100MB/s downstream? yes please!)

      • LaToya (AKA Digital Nightmare)

I already told you bastards before that I do not live under a bridge! Like I was saying, if they do launch an iPhone this summer, it will not be LTE capable, so an HSPA+ iPhone would be better than one with EVDO.

        Stop riding Verizon’s nutsack…

  • Dogfather

Yeaaahhhh this info is so accurate like the Ipad release for VZW, come on fanboys stop dreaming do you know how to count 5yrs contract from 2007….???? It ends in 2012…!!!!

Apple will have to improve the iphone and open it up in order to compete with the new Android phones.

They seem to be doing just fine…but then again, you are the expert

Hahaaa, the iphone will have the same problems with other carriers. You can blame att for drop calls but you can not blame att for not having adobe flash on the phone. You can’t blame att for not hearning your calls. The volume is too too low. Verizon might be better but not so much better than att. All carriers suck and their job is to steal money from consumers. So please stop saying att or verizon is better. They are all theives.

  • Amir

Apple will put the iPhone wherever they want whenever they want. The market will follow it. But more options are definately better for the consumer.

  • Amir

Also, I would like to see a Verizon iPhone because I am on Verizon and I am tired of being in a limbo of ATT and Verizon. Every year there is something new and im switching back and forth carrier to carrier because I love the devices. I go where the good devices are. But I think the top three want to keep you in a limbo of who to be on. (its their job to go deep in your pockets) ATT and Verizon are pretty much the same, how it will be in terms of an CDMA iPhone I guess time will tell. It could be that the iPhone is the culprit in terms of network connectivity rather than the carrier itself.

i read most replies… omg are some just ridiculous…

heres my 2 thoughts… I love my Incredible btw and loved my droid before..

Main thing i keep reading is ZOMG it wont be able to make calls and browze da interwebz at the same time…

My brother has an iphone and we cant really hold a convo cause hes always dropping off.. he lives in long island

Being able to make a good quality phone call > making a call + browsing the web at the same time.

Oh ya and theres a very simple CDMA upgrade path to SCDMA for vzdub that would let you be able to make calls and browse the web if they wanted too

More rumors. Nobody except Steve Jobs knows, we are just left to wait and see.

  • jgoitom

Well i don’t know i called verizon today too order the droid and the sale rep told me i should was a little while so it might be coming to verizon. why would they tell me to wait.

    • schinnas

because the Droid incredible is severly backordered. They cannot produce enough to keep up with the demand. Also, there is a better version of Droid by Motorolla that will be released around July, which will blow iphone HD out of the water.

  • melissa

the i phone is coming to vzw. and also LTE will be active. i have worked for them for 6 years. i know what im talking about. but the incredible blows the iphoneout of the water.

  • Eddie

You guys are retarded. I would have this launch on AT&T or T-Mobile anyday. This iPhone will not have LTE support so its stuck on crappy ass EV-DO 3g which sucks. AT&T and T-Mobile is deploying their +HSPA which will be a little bit behind 4g speeds. You guys are dumb. Stupid move by Apple.

  • Vic

I really dont think Apple would make such an idiot move! first At&t would suffer MAJOR due to the iphone being its main exclusive device, so i would think At&t would scream at Steve Jobs before they even think of passing it over to the darkside….on the bright side flashing a CDMA iPhone to MetroPCS sounds like a GREAT IDEA! :D

PS: Still will always be a PROUD iPhone user with At&t!!

  • http://techhelp.blogsite.org Jesse

i work for Verizon Wireless and we are getting the iPhone this year!

  • Chris

i live in new york and i switch from a carrier every time a good phone comes out…i got out of tmobile for the 3gs, got out of att for the nexus, was going to try the evo 4g then the iphone 4 got announced so i preordered it and im getting it the 24th…as for the iphone coming to verizon/tmobile i would switch not because of the bad service but for the cheaper price

  • Jake

The profits didn’t go to AT&T. They didn’t actually make money on the iPhone until the third year it was with their carrier.. yet another reason VZW said no in the first place.

  • boy

I mean i live in NYC… And dont really travel much within the country, when i go away… Its to the islands– And my phone stays off there ;)
