BlackBerry Bold 9650 to hit Verizon "soon"

Exclusive

VZW9650

Fear not Big Red BlackBerry fans, for the 9650 shall cometh “soon.” We’ve just been dropped several images showing Verizon collateral with the BlackBerry Tour Bold 9650 prominently displayed. The details of the phone are not new — EV-DO Rev. A, Wi-FI, GPS, 512 MB RAM, 3.2 megapixel camera, and BlackBerry OS 5 — but the cameo does indicate that Verizon will not be months behind the 9650′s release on rival network Sprint. What do you think, BlackBerry lovers? Is this handset calling to you? Or are you going to move on over to a more media-centric device like the Incredible? We’ve got some more images queued up for you after the break.

Thanks, anonymous!VZW9650_2

Amazing how Verizon finally allows WiFi on Blackberry when they are getting their ass kicked! Now it does not matter as the BB is so yesterday!

    • Chris

Wow a wifi/ CDMA BB comment. LOL you must be new here.

  • Junny

Hey do you guys think it would be worth upgrading from an 8703e? I’ve been using that phone since 1993 and it’s worked pretty good but is the browser better on this one?

    • http://www.brianward.com Brian Ward

Ha! Probably not much :^) Just a little more color perhaps.

  • Charles

Bailed to the Incredible…RIM just didn’t keep up.

  • Slav

I got the tour right now, you guys think this is worth the upgrade?

    • Alex

from what i read yeah. my friend has a tour and it is great just the trackballl and i have a pearl and I loved it just the trackball if you want a tour but hate the trackball and lack of wifi go for it but if not i wouldnt get it

The BB Bold 9650 will launch May 27th, and it’s going to be right in line with all new BB’s on VZW as far as price, right around $170-$200 after rebates etc… Great phone, but hard to compare with the Incredible, so just carry both lol… That’s what I do…

I’m gonna switch from ATT back to Verizon. The CDMA architecture (lower frequency) works better for me. With my career I find myself inside of structures more often than not. The lower frequency of CDMA works better for me than GSM. The iPhone is great I’m just tired of being in locations were ATT doesn’t make the grade. I think the 9650 is the one fr me.

    • Charles Jr

Sal, you are right. The lower frequencies do have better building penetration. It only going to get better with VZW when the 4G technology is out. Even though 4G (LTE) is the next generation of GSM, Verizon has locked down space in the 700MHz band which is even lower. Just hope the FCC does nudor them by reducing the power allowed.

      • Charles Jr

        oops! “does not nudor”

I am so mad at blackberry. Thier marketing techniques will lose them mind share. They keep giving small incremental upgrades at full price. These Jack Asses must have forgotten we have to pay for BES hardware, it’s maintinance and Monthly fees. come out with a phone worth $200.00 This we’ll add it slowly crap has them be behind the times. I will upgrade 8 phones off Blackberry and the money I save for my business alone will pay for the new HTC’s or Windows Phones. I traveled to Europe and My parters Daughter had a 5 mega pixel camera phone with music and everything. 50.00 cash. I paid 300 for the Balkberry POS i have now.

Perhaps your spelling and grammar is the problem. F7 is your friend!

I’ll (most likely) be picking this baby up to replace my Tour 6930 as soon as they will let me use my NE2/upgrade which is available June 30.

  • Sam Malone

Got my “Iincredible” yesterday! ” I used to have a ,I forgot, Oh yeah! A Blackberry! (and that was yesterday)….NORM!!!!!

  • Robert

I like people that come on to a site to see when a new phone is coming out they dont intend to buy and try and mock it. Incredible owners, where is your keyboard? Oh, touchscreen? Touchscreen doesnt appeal to everyone, myself included. I can type a lot faster on a real keyboard. So stop your bitching nad go play with your fancy game apps while the rest of us get back to business

  • Jamie D

I will be picking up the 9650 as soon as it is released on Verizon! Looking forward to the trackpad, wifi, and more RAM!

Should RIM Release a product in the middle of the Stanley Cup Finals?

I will be purchasing this phone and can’t wait! My only complain is they didn’t add support for 32 GB microSD :(

  • Mark

Please give more feedback – incredible or 9650. Like ease of use of current bb and like keyboard. However, incredible has its appeal. Opinons welcomed as I can’t decide.

    • Charles Jr

Both are great phones, however very different. I am fortunant to carry both. Incredible for personal and BB Tour for business.

I am looking forward to upgrading to a BB. I am currently (and always have been) an LG user, have the Dare now. I’ve tested two blackberrys out – one on the T-Mobile network – their version of the bold, and I love it! But went back to Verizon…hate the tour so promptly returned it. Waiting now to upgrade to the Bold. Considered the Incredible too, but I am not one for touch screens. (the dare is a touch screen and i hate it).

  • Cristina

I’m tired of waiting for this bold. I called Verizon and of course they act as if they know nothing about a new phone coming out on Thursday…ugh!

I have spoken with two Verizon stores near me in Northern VA. One store told me that the Bold was on AT&T’s network and were adamant that I had my facts wrong and that Verizon isn’t expecting any such phone (can’t wait to take my Bold into that store after I get it!) – and the second store told me just last night that they haven’t heard anything new and that the release may be pushed to mid-June. The rep told me that they get information from Verizon HQ before a new phone is released and that after they receive that it’s 7 days until the phone comes out. They haven’t received the information he was talking about so it seems like we’re at least 7 days away still! What’s the hold up?!

White 9700 on TMO is like having the world’s fastest runner in a coma.

What did I deny?.. You know just because you make a sentence sound snooty dosent make it a solid retort..

I don’t need to be involved with a toofless $5 hooker to know I shouldn’t bareback her.

No way, I’ve had my 8703c since 1972. It worked with two tin cans and a string too.
