Verizon Wireless publicly showcases LTE in a Boston eatery

In April, Verizon Wireless took its new LTE network to the streets, publicly pimping their next-generation, 4G network in Boston, MA. In a three minute promotional video that hit Big Red’s official YouTube, Verizon showcases users canned spontaneous reactions to the 8.5 Mbps download and 2.2 MBps upload speeds offered by the carrier’s new network. Folks at the Sicilian Pizzeria in Beantown — where the video was mostly filmed — seemed thrilled with the mobile download speeds, repeatedly commenting that the connection was “fast” and items were downloading “almost immediately.” With Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G on the horizon, the timing of the video makes it pretty clear that Verizon is trying to keep its customers focused on the promise-land that is LTE — as opposed to the already available WiMAX from its competition. Hit the jump for the full video.

    i can see t-mobile and maybe att(if they upgrade to hspa+) comercials now…”HSPA+ faster than Verizon’s 4G network”…. haha

It will b pretty bad for VZW.

      No iPhone till 2013… maybe

and these commercials cause then they won’t be able to use the “We got a bigger map” excuse

VZW will regret rejecting the iPhone initially it will be their downfall.

Think of all the revenue the iphone has created for AT&T, and where is that money going???? to the network

Oh please @jJoshD4. You beleive that?
        1) iPhone (who cares)
        2) LTE is overlay to 3G – Read the map!
        3) Sure the iPhone created a a paradym shift in consumer behavior – VZW is far from “downfall”
        4) It has to since the iPhone is bandwith killer!

When will their entire map be covered with LTE?

and how much longer after that will their customers stop using 1X phones?

AT&T and Tmobile will be able to offer faster data speeds (significantly faster than Verizon’s 3G) on 3g which will work with almost all of the phones they sell now. AT&T will be able to turn off the EDGE network much much sooner than Verizon will their 1X network. Which means much needed bandwidth will be dedicated to speeds much much faster than Verizon LTE. Verizon will be offering a greatly inferior product over this next decade.

It really isn’t that the Iphone is a bandwidth killer, it’s that their are so many of them on their network. The incredible is a bandwidth killer, so is the EVO and all these media centric devices. AT&T just has sold more of them since they came out.

Most of Verizon, Tmobile and Sprint customers have blackberries which are basically feature phones with awesome e-mail functionality.

Most AT&T customers have bandwidth hogging media centric devices mainly Iphones… ok all Iphones.

Verizon, Sprint, and Tmobile customers care about the Iphone, they would be buying them up like crazy if they were on all the carriers.

Verizon is using LTE and so is AT&T. I don’t know about Tmobile but so far sprint is the only oddball using wimax

Hopefully Jobs will at least hint of a Verizon iPhone (LTE) during the upcoming WWDC. I love the new design.

psst…. LTE is not just VZW!!!!! the frequency spectrum is the same for At&t! At&t and VZW will both have LTE iPhones which will probably wait till mid 2011 when at&t launches LTE. till then we 3gs users will have to settle for our 3mbps+ speeds.

Don’t hold your breath on AT&T having LTE next year. It would be late 2011 at the earliest. They still have a ways to go with their laughable 3g network. Mark my work, Verizon will be a solid 1.5-2 years ahead of AT&T on LTE deployment.

These 4G test speeds are bullshit. Of course they’re gonna achieve higher speeds b/c no one is on their network using 4G. I tried Clear’s 4G/Wimax solution to try and replace my home broadband network, but it was weak…….a little better than 4G, but not anywhere close to my cable broadband speeds. 4G isn’t a big enough improvement to be able to brag about. That’s why Apple won’t release an iPhone for 4G and just wait to release the LTE version next summer when spectrum goes live for AT&T

  • Stickyicky

…….excuse me, I meant “a little better than 3G, but not anywhere close to my cable broadband speeds.”

OK WTF? I see a trend here. I post a link on Twitter ‘@matrix2004′ to a video or an article on another site then shortly after that it appears on BGR. Do i get credit? NEVER.

Maybe you should quit bitching and start your own website.

  • LazyStarGazer

8.5Mb/s ??? Is this just a test speed? Should be faster.

Why do people always have to make it about apple and the iphone… Get over it. There’s life beyond apple.

Recent 3rd party report states that Verizon Wireless moves more data traffic over it’s network then AT&T or Sprint and yet customers remain satisfied with performance of their devices on the network. So, does anyone want to guess why AT&T is having all the issues with slow performance, dropped sessions and dropped calls?

  • Bunifa@SprintPOS

I didn’t say that, I said it can’t be any worse.

  • dan

    wrong
