Motorola's mysterious Android smartphone gets a name, specs

Rumor

motorola-flipout

According to HDblog.it, that mysterious square MOTORBLUR handset has a name: Flipout. Not only that, but the Italian site claims to have secured the official spec sheet, which read as follows: 2.8″ display, 3.1 megapixel camera, GPS, 512MB ROM / 256MB RAM, 700MHz processor, and Android 2.1 covered in MOTOBLUR. We have to be honest and say we’re really not digging the design, but in case your tastes are a lot little more adventurous than ours, word is you’ll be able to pick one of these up this June in your choice of black, green or pink. Wondering what those colors look like on a phone with four right angles? Find out after the jump.

    • midibite

They weren’t the only ones designing this ‘same’ style lol http://fonefrenzy.com/2010/05/11/motorola-flipout-packs-android-due-in-june-has-nokia-7705-cousin/

Oh the Twist was ugly as well. The Twist was ugly part one, the Flipout is ugly part two.

      • PeterB

And like the Nokia Twist, NOBODY will buy it.

I think the keyboard looks like it might be usable and the shape and size might be perfect for lots of users.

It’s refreshing to see a smaller Android design.

well, you know an Android this Ugly and Weak definitely has to be coming to ATT!!! I HATE you AT&T, more than you’ll ever know…

“Wondering what those colors look like on a phone with four right angles?”

As opposed to all the phones that don’t have four right angles?

    • JustAGuy

Exactly my thought… did the writer pass 4th grade math?

  • Droid

What a really strange looking device. It’s ulgy too

    • Neva Getzold

      That’s what she said.

The keypad is reminiscent of the Moto Q. And THAT was a great keypad!

  • Mack Simmons

I actually like the design. And I usually hate Moto designs. This one is at least cute. I can see women buying this phone just because of the looks, the size (seems rather small, like the LG Lotus) and the colors.

  • MotoZine

Motorola already begin release square design phone since Motorola Hint QA30 (around Q4,2008) and Motorola Karma QA1 (28 June 2009) so not correct if says Nokia 7705 cousin. Motorola FlipOut will have Touch Pad like in Motorola BackFlip.

  • Bob

That is interesting, I kinda of like it.

I imagine this would appeal to many looking for a pocket -able, semi easy to carry phone.

  • Nico

This would have been a better choice for Rogers to get, rather than the Motorola Quench (known as Cliq Xt on T-Mo). At least its got a keyboard and 2.1. And 700mhz processor rather than last years 528mhz.

I still remember that sort of necklace hanging phone design moto came out. It was an utter failure.

I’m getting bad vibes on this device. I see it breaking easily as well.

But anything is possible. It could all the new rage.

    • therodt

I held a demo unit and it was pretty solid as devices go. I just think it is more of a tween device than anything. A great first fone for a teenager but its not powerful enough to do alot…

  • JFA

yyyuuuuckkk. that phone is HIDEOUS….to me at least. I know a friend who would love this thing and truly believe its the best phone ever. haha.

  • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

I predict it will sell well to the under 18 crowd.

    • therodt

I’m thinking the under 16 crowd

  • Shawn

I hate Blur. Plain vanilla Android is better. What’s the best selling Motorola Android phone. Not the Cliq or Devour; it’s the Droid.

  • MotoZine

Motorola Smartphone Grow second largest in the world because Motorola Droid, Motorola Milestone, Motorola Cliq and Motorola Dext Sales.

  • Fattychance

It’s like a bad comedian. It’s the real joke.

  • Crossweird

Most cellphones have four right angles.

  • lando

i think its cool but the twist design would get old after about a month i have my motorola droid an still lovin it…

  • Mistro

The form factor may not be attractive, but the phone isn’t really that bad looking. I think its well polished. Moto should start announcing the Shadow, Droid2, and the Etna before people start losing faith in them again. And believe me, the Droid 2 will shit on the Evo.

  • iJITSU

I might buy it if it becomes available for AT&T 3G. I actually want a small, sleek smartphone with a hidden QWERTY.

  • flight

Its obviously targeted to a younger audience. Its noy supposed to wow us on bgr. It’ll help the carriers bring messaging customers up to smartphone plans, and that’s a revenue driver.
