Sprint confirms it won't carry the Nexus One

General

Nexus One Sprint

Following in Verizon’s footsteps, Sprint’s PR people have let it be known that the Google Nexus One will never have a home with the Now Network. Singling out the lack of need for the handset in their portfolio thanks to the bigger, better, faster and stronger HTC EVO 4G, Sprint is no doubt going to raise the ire of the rank and file of the Android Army for killing what was likely their only change to have an Android smartphone exactly as Google intended it. But trust us… We’ve used both and think Sprint did the right thing.

Oh please. Immigrants are the reason our economy is bad. Without them all my white brothers and sisters would be employed and able to support their drug habits in the trailor parks in Alabama of their choice in peace.

I see Mexicans everyday there cool people. They should move to Arizona. Haha if you can’t laugh at that then you take life to serious calm down people.

    • American Patriot

Eventually Mexicans will take back SoCal, Arizona, and Texas anyway. I say let them have it. Shortly after it will beg redundant when we become 1 North American Country using the Amero across Canada and Mexico and U.S. What were we talking about again?

@ Jeff: Actually FoxNews subscribers… the people who make replies to their right wing articles… are the most racist white (i mean right) wing groups of people I’ve ever not had the pleasure of meeting. But I think they only do that from the protection of their computers. Most of them would never say what they say about non whites to their faces.

Their just afraid and their KKK financed politicians rile them up on purpose like puppets.

I’m Republican but I don’t like Fox News for that very reason. They call themselves “fair and unbiased,” but anyone with an education or brain can see what their agenda is and that’s to bash the Democratic political party.

The things they’ve gotten away with reporting border on criminal at times.

I’m conservative but I will argue only the facts with things I disagree with from the LEFT. Fox News appeals to the unemployed, uneducated, recially prejudice but afraid to admit it, and “let’s blame Obama for everything,” type of crowd.

    • jdawgdiddy

I apologize, but I think it is naive to think that any news station in the US has absolutely no agenda. They are all biased in some way or another and they all spin the story to get the story they want. Fox news may be more obvious than most, but none are completely innocent.

This points to the problem I see with Android platform and its most loyal supporters. Since there is a new droid every three months, the latest device will do well and others are ignored or potential buyers of the older device are quickly told not to buy it. The Nexus One is fading out in the US faster in than the Pre did. Thats a shame because its a good device.

    1. Droid handset makers need to do short length runs.

    2. Why doesn’t Google just have HTC make one official handset and drop multiple Hardware manufacturers. I have yet to see any real distinguishing between the Droids. Outside of Camera and processor speed. All the apps are the same, all the services are the same outside of the HTC interface they all are the same. limiting to one manufacturer would kill fragmentation instantly.

Droid Incredible 2 (Killed N1 on Verizon and Sprint)

    Nexus One 0

Will there ever be a Nexus Two?

    • StevenGlansburg

Shit Mike, your argument is pathetic. The problem with Android is that there is a new choice with upgraded hardware every three years? How in the world is that a problem?
The N1 is still heavily supported, and will be for at least 2 years after it’s release date. Sure it is not the latest and greatest anymore, but as you said, it’s a good device. So what might the problem be?
We all know that fragmentation is slowly coming to an end. Older, weaker devices such as the G1 will probably die with 1.6 on it. But other than that, most other Android phones have the capability and the high possibility to be upgraded to 2.2 in the near future.

      • StevenGlansburg

Meant months in my second sentence, not years. (I was thinking iPhone for a second)

      • MikeD

Every 3 months. I said months not years. And obviously there isn’t much choice. minor differences in the camera is the biggest difference.

What I think happened at Verizon and Google realized it was a waste of time to offer practically the same device on their network. Here’s an example of what I mean below.

        - – - – - – - – -
In one display, she put out six samples of jam. In another, 24.

Result: Shoppers mobbed the table with 24 varieties . . . BUT they were 10 times more likely to buy jam when they were staring at only six.

“Everybody wants to go to that store that offers you a thousand options, and that’s the best recipe to walk into that store and walk out and buy nothing,” she
        said.

“What is the accumulative effect of having to make all these choices?” Spencer asked.

“Essentially what happens is they get so tired and emotionally drained that we even find that their immune system drops,” Iyengar said. “They even more likely to get a cold, to get a flu.”

Choice is good, but too much choice is also a bad thing.
        - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

That was from a CBS Sunday morning segment 2 weeks ago about decision making.

        Here’s another article

“Choice can also produce a numbing uncertainty, depression, and selfishness.”

        http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/7044550/Too-much-choice-leaving-us-bewildered-and-depressed.html

Lord knows you tech nuts will run around and tell people don’t bother buying the Droid or the Eris, they’re old. When they are not even a year old.

Android platform seems more like a collusion. A polite competition as opposed to real competition. I say they should have shoved the Nexus One right up in there against the Incredible and let the better Droid win.

Oh and Watch your language. You lace your emotions too much in your comments.

      • drksilenc

minor differences in camera? wow ur way off base
larger screen, better screen control chip, larger camera, 4g connection. and thats just to list a few of the differences so come back when you actually know something about why sprint is droping it

  • tino72

wow the article posts here are so embarrassing, i cannot believe BGR doesnt moderate the posts by people here at some point? racists and general retards posting bold outlandish statements and completely off topic garbage..the standards have truly fallen on BGR ..wow

    • VZWHoustonRegionalManager

You could just ignore the comments you don’t like or the comments in general. Making decisions is awfully tough for your types (the PC crowd), but one day you are going to have to.

      • tino72

i ignore pretty much everything posted on this site dont worry..i guess im PC because i dont make retarded racist statements..maybe i need to post my city and company position in my username to be less PC like you..

      • jdawgdiddy

you may not be making racial comments but you have used the word “retarded” in a derogatory fashion in two comments now. That can be just as offensive and insensitive to some people. so what makes you any better?

    • Sprinter

While I’m not usually one to try and censor anyone, I have to agree with Tino. There were a few dumb posts on this thread, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say these ones shouldn’t be allowed. BUT, a few days ago I recall some downright racist posts going up over the never ending Verizon vs Sprint debate. (I suspect all written by the same person using different names due to the similarities between them, but nevertheless I feel they should have been taken down.) At some point we all have acknowledge that somewhere someone’s feelings are being hurt over pretty much meaningless banter… and that’s not being PC so much as it is compassionate and empathetic.

  • skyy_flyer

So, I opened a story titled how Sprint won’t carry the Nexus One… and the comment section has turned into a political immigration debate… um… yeah.

But anyway to post a actual comment relative to the article. Can’t really say I blame Sprint or Verizon for not carrying the Nexus One. I’m sure both would like to be able to service the phone and warranty it. Plus when you have a powerhouse like the Incredible and the Evo well Nexus One isn’t all that important.

  • Assimilate

What the hell is wrong with BGR not moderating comments?

    • Phoneaphile

Why can’t people moderate themselves. vote down the first racist comment and don’t reply to it, that just feeds the trolls…

  • VZWHoustonRegionalManager

The problem with the Nexus One is that typically Americans are used to wearing the ball and chain that Verizon and Sprint place on them every two years. Many people who use At&t and Tmobile realize that you can use a phone purchased outside of the brick and mortar store you only know of.

  • AT&T Thug

Ok, so lets rear this back to how this phone won’t appear on Sprint’s Never Network, and talk about the EVO 4G.

  • Channan

Haha. The comments on this article are hilarious.

I’ve been saying the Nexus One is the best even compared to the Incredible and Evo, because I really preferred what it had over both. That is, until I saw the multitouch test on the Nexus One and the Incredible. Now I’m thinking about selling my Nexus One and using the next gen iPhone (when it comes out) until the Nexus Two is available with AT&T 3G, if they can manage to include the Incredible’s multitouch chip in the new Nexus.

  • sean76

Cant wait for the HTC EVO! The Nexus is so old news already…And there is a reason vzw and sprint are both passing on it..

  • Kar-Droid

I got Nexus One unsubsidized in April, and I went with T-mobile. Although I pay through the nose and found out that Verizon and Sprint are knocking Nexus One out of the picture only a few weeks away from my purchase, I have no regard due to these reasons.
1). I was on a family plan that I was longer part of it, and the plan owner ask me politely to move as soon as my contact end.
2). I do read it that incredible and Evo are coming out but I couldn’t wait due to the reason one.
3). I can’t stand to pay for the carrier’s smartphone plan monthly bill.
Considering all above, I now pay $60 in T-mobile for 550 min plus unlimited txt(1000)+unlimited internet (5Gig). Although Evo should be only a bit more expansive than my current plan. I comfort my self with the fact that I will be getting a new phone as soon as new shinning Android phone that will Droid and Evo in the dusk release in a year or so. I am free from chain, I know I sound pathetic but what I am suppose to do?

Yes, the Evo/Incredible is better than the Nexus 1 but is there any reason why Sprint and Verizon can’t have both? And both of those phones will be in a world of hurt in a few weeks when 2.2 comes out. The Incredible and Evo will lag at least a month for the update while the Nexus 1 will get it pretty much the day it is announced. Don’t get me wrong, I’d definitely take those other phones over the Nexus, but it still has a place and people should think before bashing the phone.

    • skyy_flyer

Well, I’m willing to say that they aren’t keen on the idea of not being able to sale the phone in store or do warranty exchange in store is what may have played a big role as I know with Verizon, as that is who I have, if your phone goes bad within the first year and you take it to a corporate store that they will just swap it out, of course assuming your phone isn’t damaged due to your own fault… or a pets fault. Any Sprint users able to say the same for Sprint,as not sure on their warranty policy.

  • Brad

Hmm, it may have been what Google intended, but the Nexus One is certainly not the best Android phone. The instant they used that poor quality screen (not true 480×800 res) and underclocked the CPU, they shot themselves in the foot. Not only that, but HTC Sense UI easily puts the stock GUI to shame. It was easy to see that with the HTC Incredible and EVO models debuting on Verizon and Sprint, there would be no need to also support an already-obsolete model.

A co-worker of mine recently picked up a Droid, and almost immediately put a third-party launcher app on there, because the stock one is so inferior. Google may be going all right with the inner workings of the OS, but HTC really knows how to make a killer UI. I was really hoping that the partnership between HTC and Google for the Nexus One would result in HTC Sense UI becoming the official launcher app for Android. Sadly, it was not to be, and probably won’t ever be, since it’s proprietary software.

In any case, the Nexus One is already old news. The Incredible and EVO are now the phones to beat down, which is not going to be easy, seeing as how there is very little compromise in specs on either device.

  • RAS

The EVO 4G is the whole reason Sprint is passing on the Nexus 1. The EVO is going to surpass it by such a wide margin that it just doesn’t make sense to bring the N1 onboard.

  • SickOfAllTheSh%t

This discussion began with the focus on how bigger companies have ganged up on the failing company to quash their last desperate act of offering the first phone which people actually want. An unbranded phone essentially = no feature-stripping, no performance & memory crippling, no network-imposed restrictions, and no horrible network graphic themes, unwanted and exploitive network shopping links, with some features re-tooled just for such insults against the user’s free-market rights! How then did the focus degrade to some pathetically wasteful PC-talk jabber? I’ll tell you one thing for sure, you cannot blame those who use offensive words for YOUR reaction, and YOUR distraction!

So what if somebody uses the f-word, calls somebody a retard, or makes a racist remark? There are much scarier issues (such as consumer freedom in a “free” market), which are led by forces with intent by some with intent to enslave millions of Americans, not on the basis of color, but on social class.

The very notions of PC talk, and the idea that it really matters which words somebody decides to use in any discussion (the very notion of “civility”, in fact) are the weapons with which the middle class’s enemies are using to divide us. Every single time that YOU distract the focus of a discussion from fighting those enemies by reacting to someone else’s comment, just because they display their civil ignorance, you don’t just help your true, and scariest enemies in their attack – you throw yourselves, and all who follow you, on their proverbial swords! Our real enemies in this class war know how to divide a people, a nation, or a world, which is why they work to keep the population divided through promotion of immigration (that’s an observation on tactical behavior, maybe we can leave it at that). To stay divided is to stay distracted, and it will lead to anyone who isn’t a millionaire becoming enslaved by way too few liberal hippies, right-wing despots, and their heavies will be the fargan PC-enforcing retards!
