    Palm pre still exists?

  • TypicalVerizonDBAG

Just get this on Verizon. At&t sucks. We have THE MAP. Our version is also specially optimized to out perform the ghetto Sprint version as well as this crappy At&t version. Did I mentioned our massive throbbing, hot map?

    • StevenGlansburg

I like all caps posts BETTER! You dbag

    • Oxyrt

This is the same exact thing as the Verizon version, there’s been chatter that it’s even faster with a new firmware. Plus, with this phone on AT&T, you can talk and surf the web at the same time.

    • cellphoneguy

funny At&t has true 3g, and the fact is i have been testing the new pre and side by side it runs faster than both VZW and Sprint. I still don’t like the design but for those die hard palm users its nifty. hoping your map comment is complete sarcasm. its cool when you compare at&t’s hspa to their “3g” if they added umts it would be much more comparable not to mention that att has areas of edge plus running 300kbs + god i hate gorilla marketing

  • StevenGlansburg

Yeah like I’m gonna give up my iphone for this.
How do you even put music on it without itunes?
    Where do you buy media?
My car stereo is for iphone not pre
    Does palm even multitask

    • tom

      1. You can drag and drop your favorite MP3 files

      2. Palm Pre has bluetooth audio streaming. If it doesn’t work, that’s because your car stereo is obsolete

      3. Palm Pre has multitask on the 1st day.

      • MikeD

iPhone does was multitasking day one.

Gizmodo already cleared that fact up. so try again.

      • American Patriot

iPhone does not multitask, and Jobs said it’s not true multitasking when it does this summer. ‘does was’?

      • MikeD

I think you clearly do not understand the meaning of Multitasking. Reading is Fundamental. And brush up on the comprehension as well.

Giz Explains: How Multitasking Works on a Phone

        http://gizmodo.com/5527407/giz-explains-how-multitasking-works-on-a-phone?skyline=true&s=i

        Nuff said.

      • Brad

        @MikeD

Um, yeah, reading IS fundamental. But apparently YOU did not read the part about only the built-in iPhone apps being allowed to be multitasking-capable. Having the OS only allow its own pre-loaded non-removable apps to multitask DOES NOT COUNT!!! Okay, it’s a multitasking OS on account of a technicality, but the argument is academic, because aside from having music continue playing while you’re in another app, you CANNOT do two things at once. The point being made here is that the Palm Pre had true multi-tasking available for any and all apps from day one, which the iPhone did not, and still does not until iPhone 4.0 comes out.

      • y3k-bug

        For the 1 billionth time:

The iPhone will do multitasking. It will do multitasking the same way Android does.

      • VZWHoustonRegionalManager

        Y3K-bug,

SHHHHHHHHH, don’t let the fandroids hear you…

      • jdawgdiddy

how bout just say the current iphone does not allow 3rd party app multitasking? Does that make everyone feel better?

      • MikeD

        Gizmodo already confirmed it does.

Now you try Voice and Data Simultaneously.

      • MikeD

        @Brad

What you fail to realize is the all of them multitask device Multitasks. Android and iPhone multitask the most similar, WebOS has the least restrictions.

I wish more real technologists were commenting here and not emotionally driven geeks.

And by the way I like the Pre and I think there is room for it. Apple is here to stay, as is RIM, the real battle brewing is the battle for mobile linux.

You need to read this article: Fragmenting Linux is not the way to beat Apple
        http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-20004567-16.html

Stop bitching about Apple every damn thread. Okay? okay.

      • larry boy

        Playskool phone.=) ahhahahahaha!!!!

  • Daniel

They’ll be giving the phone away like Verizon here soon.

  • Cold Dead Fingers

I may get AT&T the best in my area, but shit, they are just as greedy as verizon. I’m getting tired of them keeping tethering features from iPhone owners but then they bring the Pre, which will have that ability.

    • American Patriot

What makes you think AT&T keeps the iPhone from tethering, and it’s not Apple keeping you? I lol when I hear iPhone users complain that AT&T keeps the iPhone from multitasking or (when it didn’t) picture messaging, etc. AT&T is just the service provider, they didn’t manufactur the hardware or software! Do you also cuss out Department of Transportation because you’re car doesn’t have a tow hitch?

      • MikeD

        @Patriot

Already been confirmed that the tethering issue is AT&T’s fault. So was the MMS debacle.

Try parsing through the Apple hate propaganda and stick to facts.

        MikeD

When I read your name all I can hear in my head is “Eh! How yooouu doin!”. Then I read your posts. Then I cry..

  • user

    Contracts should be renamed Cointraps.

  • MacMan

Palm who ? Oh you mean that company that just prostituted itself to HP. Yeah ill pass.

  • Carl

    Palm who?
The one with it’s badass WebOS, which your obsolete BB or Apple software phone, barely can come up to par with multitasking.

    Oh yeah ..
    that one

  • dub

Why?? Verizon has this for 30 bones.

    • tino72

too bad vzw doesnt have service where att does where i need it..also BGR did you just steal this article from phonedog?

      • StevenGlansburg

BGR doesn’t steal, they just borrow things from Engadget and Gizmodo 24 hours after they happen.

  • JoeBold

hey, they have to recuperate the $$$ spent on Apple contracts somewhere, right?!?!??!?

    • MikeD

      Cute haha.

They already do recoup it from the data contracts. Offering the Palm Pre just broadens the selection AT&T has.

Trust me they already made their money back from their contracts. And any new contract with Apple will bring in dividends again.

  • MikeD

Well I guess if you want voice and data simultaneously on a Palm Pre, now is their chance.

I think AT&T is making a mistake. They need to make it cheaper. $49 bucks with a two-year contract makes sense.

    • Versed

I have a feeling after a few weeks, or month, they’re going to drop the price on the Pre. While I doubt I would ever get one, I do think its a fine device. And to each their own.

I do think WebOS would make a fantastic slate/ipad device. The card system will be excellent on such a device. I hope HP follows through on this, and did see something on this, here or on Engadget.

  • TypicalDBAGhatingDBAg

    F*ck Palm

    • http://twitter.com/mrkalel Kal-El

      Right Back atcha buddy…

    • TypicalAppleHatingDBAG

you could at least try and be original?

      • TypicalAppleHatingDBAG

        yes

    • TypicalHaterHatingHater

Did noone else get the sarcasm here? ‘Fuck Palm’ in regards to masturbation – not the company. I thought it was funny AND appropriate to the article. The user name also gets a +1 from me.

  • copr165

Doesn’t VZW have the Pre Plus for $30.00 and AT&T is wanting 149.00. So you would pay over $100.00 more to be on a crappy network. I like AT&T’s new commercial about covering 97% per cent of averyone in the U.S. I must be in the 3% then. Anyone else in the percentage?

    • ItsMeBeaches

Crappy network, crappy network, crappy network…thats all u ppl ever say when it comes to ATT…it may be crappy where u live, dont assume its crappy everwhere…u know what they say about ppl that assume dont u? Come to Miami, Fl and watch ATT shit all over ur shitty VZW…my girlfriend has VZW and i couldnt tell u how many times we are talking and her phone say “network failure,” which btw I HAVE NEVER SEEN ON MY PHONE…any phone where i live is much better on ATT than on VZW, because my signal strength is better, i have faster data, and lets not forget i dont have to end a call to check sports update.

      • Phoneaphile

AT&T rocks where I live too. my daughter have a vzw phone and I have less dropped calls than she does.

I do talk to my wife at lunch break while surfing the web. important feature to me.

  • Johnny Rotten Crotch

Yea Palm. The compnay that actually gave people,MMS,mutitasking and exchange support on the first day. You Isheep would buy dog shit if it had an Apple logo on it. Hell…. you guys bought a giant Ipod Touch. How fucking stupid is that.

  • Doll

Whatever type of crack AT&T is smoking to release the Pre for 149.99 is one hell of a drug.

    • JR

It will drop soon I’m sure. Once the “limited time” for the free touch stone ends, it will probably be down to $50. Although, who really cares at this point. I love WebOS but this is two year old hardware and cheap at that. I’ll wait for the new HPALM phone, whenever that will be.

  • albert

is there no word on what the non contract price is? any guesses?

    • TypicalAppleHatingDBAG

      15$ and a handjob out back…

  • btdown

149? They’ll be lucky if they get 39.99

    • LostPlatypus

      If that much…

  • MacMan

If palm is so badass why did they sell the company ? List excuses here. Its really sad when people start bashing other companies because no one likes palm outside of a couple nerds. Let’s grow up guys.

    • American Patriot

Why did Marvel sell to Disney? Why did Eagles sell McNaab to Redskins? Why did Jews sell Jesus to Christianity? We may never know. Just because they sell doesn’t mean they suck.

      • JR

True. But they all have one thing in common, Poor Management.

      • American Patriot

The Jews seem to always manage pretty well, actually… aside from the Holocaust I mean…

  • woowoo

title could also read….its official: no one cares.

    • Mrwirez

Lol.. Why would anyone buy an HP Pre now? That’s so last year. ;)

      • user

The same reason they always would:

        1) they would assess their needs
        2) make decisions upon assessing those needs

        * Why is there a high incidence of fanboy-itis on the forums?
        * Why do so many side with corporate teams and lack any kind of skill, interest or insight?
        * Why do so many not realise that one-size-does-not-fit-all?

  • larry boy

    Haha what a joke!!! Pretard.

  • Butthead007

I have to admit, from a design and usability standpoint, I do not like the design of the pre or the pixi. However, webos is quite impressive once you use it. The app marketplace is rather dismal which is probably due to the palm platform having a questionable future.

Is ATT offering the hotspot too? Wasn’t sure.

But hey, people still like Palm so I am sure there will be some buyers. Good luck!

  • Richard

Hmmm, AT&T Palm Pre Plus with Touchstone Charger for free (39.99) for $149 AFTER a $100 mail-in-rebate. Verizon Palm Pre Plus for $29.99 and no rebate and Touchstone Charger for $39.99. If my math is correct, it’s a no brainer. I’ll wait for the HTC Desire.

I had this phone through Sprint and returned in less than a week – why? – its poorly made for it feels like a cheap China made toy with atrocious battery life BUT I loved the Web OS when the phone didn’t freeze so regularly. HP who bought Palm should ditch this design and start over.
