Business users on AT&T who have a serious need for mobile data connectivity but think it a serious waste of cash to have multiple members of a work team outfitted with a mobile data card/stick should rejoice as AT&T has announced it is now carrying two MiFi devices from CradlePoint. First up is the PHS300 Personal WiFi Hotspot. Able to maintain simultaneous data connections for up to 16 802.11b/g connections, the Personal WiFi Hotspot supports WEP and WPA/WPA2 encryption in addition to a built-in firewall and support for NAT and SPI. Then there’s the CTR350 Mobile Broadband Travel Router. Again featuring support for up to 16 devices and the same, the Mobile Broadband Travel Router has all of the same security features as the Personal WiFi Hotspot, but differs in that it is more of a solution to failover redundancy with its ability to automatically connect to AT&T’s HSDPA network in the event one’s ethernet-based data connection goes dead.

Hope they don’t have the same issues the Novatel ones did, lol.

Just going to cripple their iphone clogged network some more. At&t sucks ass hole. Get a mifi on Verizon. Our 3G may only be as fast as EDGE in most places, but we have a huge throbbing MAP.

Well having 16 users at a time is one sure way to blow past that 5GB cap in a heartbeat.

Will this work with Sprints 2G network? That’s all we practically have here in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Business. Figures. And AT&T has plenty good coverage in alot of places. No capacity issues where I live, just east of San Francisco. 5200k download on 3G

@Gregg, where I work (financial district) in sf I get 10 kb down on edge and nothing on 3G. AT

    Pricing not available?

These are the standard devices that cradlepoint has been selling for quite a while. Just look it up on their website. Also work with other providers of 3G and 4G (I used the 300 with Clear’s WiMax).

Available on-line and at your local Frys too.

These devices have been available for months now. The CTR350 is currently free out the door through a AT&T vendor.

Michael – just to clarify, those aren’t “MiFi” devices – they’re WiFi/3G hot spots (or known by other names). MiFi is the brand name of the Novatel one.

It should be noted these units are NOT a Mifi. A Mifi is a Wireless Mobile Aircard and a Wifi router built into one unit. These are Wifi routers with a USB port for your Mobile Aircard. These units have been available for some time, but are now compatible with AT&T’s wireless aircards.

Yes…these are not a standalone MiFi device like the Novatel MiFi’s you can get from Verizon. These are simply routers that you must pair with another data capable device to use on AT&T’s network. It’s just a way to turn those devices into “hotspots” to share your data with up to 16 users. Even the PHS300 can support up to 16 users, per my rep. But these have been out for a while…here is what AT&T had to say:

      - AT&T is not carrying Cradlepoint devices and does not plan to offer these devices.

      - Cradlepoint devices are not wirelessly enabled directly to run on the AT&T network. They are Wi-Fi routers that can be coupled with WWAN devices (USBs, Modem Cards and handsets) to use a 3G network as backhaul to the Internet.

      - Customers cannot purchase Cradlepoint devices from AT&T and we have no plans to offer them. Customers can purchase Cradlepoint devices from a broad range of 3rd party indirect distribution points.

      - AT&T has not tested or certified Cradlepoint devices for use on our network. AT&T customer service does not provide any support for Cradlepoint devices.

      - For customers who choose to purchase a Cradlepoint device and couple them with an AT&T LaptopConnect device, the Terms and Conditions of the AT&T Data Connect designed for laptop and PDA customers do not allow aggregation across a common connection to the AT&T wireless network. AT&T, through our Business Connect pricing plans, allows wireless routers for the intended use with machine-to-machine and/or Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) applications, and not for support of individual remote or mobile workers using a laptop or PDA. Likewise, AT&T does not allow the use of “SIM Gateway” devices (that aggregate and transform calls from a fixed-to-mobile call to a mobile-to-mobile call).

Allow me to also clarify that I do not work for AT&T; my company utilizes their services, as well as several other carriers. I am not trying to sell a product here or debunk this article. Just hoping to share further info about this with you all. Cheers.
