Android 2.1 update for the DROID Eris coming by month's end?

Rumor

HTC-Droid-Eris-3

Seemingly forgotten in the shadow of the Motorola DROID, the DROID Eris may finally see an update to Android 2.1. The support page for the DROID Eris has been updated and now contains information about a new version of Android that is slated to hit the aging handset. Though the Android version included in the update was not specified, the changelog clearly points to it being the much anticipated Android 2.1. No date for roll out was listed but internal rumblings suggest that it may hit before the month of May is over, just in time for the ERIS to hit the EOL list.

Thanks to all who sent this in!

My wife received her 2.1 update this morning on her Eris (I have Moto)… Reports that everything gets wiped on install seem to be wrong. She installed the update without thinking about backup but everything showed up afterward. Apps, etc all ok. Contacts (“People”) on phone did get wiped but after a restart they all auto-synched back to the phone from Gmail Contacts. Only thing she said she had to redo was the home pages layouts (Widgets). So far so good and she is already using the GPS in the car…even though she does not need it for where she is going. Evidently the update is in fact being distributed. K

Got my update yesterday…it wiped my contacts out except for my gmail contacts. Eventually ran sync with my home computer and all my contacts reappeared. Did have to redo all my homepages and now will have to download my ringtones again. I am still having problems with my GPS connecting, but fairly certain that will resolve as well. Overall, This version will be great, I just need to adjust to it.

Got my update yesterday and it is outstanding. A few tiny hiccups as mentioned here (rearranging home apps, losing contacts until restart etc) but overall it just feels slicker.

I got my update, but I dont like it. My apps run slower, battery gets drained quicker, when I hit phone and lags behind enough that I need to hit it again then it catches up and then goes to where I didnt want it to go. Also, my weather says that I am a different city than I am in and it will not change. I loved this phone before the update, now im not so sure. If anyone knows how to get it back the way it was, please let me know.

I too hate the update. I feel like bait and switch. My camera no longer zooms in, it LAGS so bad!!!! It is nearly impossible to CALL anyone (on a cell phone.. I know, who calls people on these anymore?) because I just keep hitting their number and nothing happens. I had to dial 911 and it wouldn’t place the call! I kept hitting the “call” button.. nada. My weather too no longer has me where I am, most of my apps don’t work like they did.. my shortcuts are jacked up. I liked the phone but am heading to Verizon tomorrow to see what I can do about this. I HATE it!
