AT&T extends exclusivity with Apple, no Verizon iPhone until 2011?

Rumor

verizon-wireless-iphone

Take this one with the largest grain of salt that you can find…the latest rumor on the status of the Verizon Wireless iPhone suggests that the phone may not come to fruition until 2011. As we all know, AT&T is offering data plans for the iPad on a non-contract basis at the lowly price of $15 for 250MB of data and $30 for unlimited data. According to analyst Brian Marshall of BroadPoint AmTech, AT&T would not have agreed to such a drastic price reduction, and no-contract plans, without receiving something big from Apple in return. That “big something”, he hypothesizes, is an extension of the iPhone exclusivity agreement that AT&T currently has enjoyed with Apple in the U.S. Under this quid pro quo agreement, AT&T’s exclusivity would be extended until the end of 2010, effectively shuttering any plans to launch the iPhone on Big Red in 2010.

Love all the Fanboys thinking everyone on VZW wants or needs an iPhone. I’ll never buy that limited piece. Yes SOME people that don’t have an Android device or that are not dedicated Crackberry addicts would possibly buy one, but not everyone is as horny for apple as the Fanboys. Apple waited too long and people not on AT&T have seen the light, and it ain’t necessarily apple.

Just like you Fandroids. You’re all the same. I just like gadgets. That’s why I’m here. And I happen to like the iPhone. Just personal choice. And I happen to have great AT&T service. Also, by personal choice. You do realize that before VZW bought Alltell, AT&T had the most subscribers. Their network can’t be that bad. I’ve had a good experience. And if you think people on VZW don’t want the iPhone, you’re just kidding yourself. Did you not read the article that BGR posted saying that VZW’s CEO wants it? Take your pointless comment somewhere else.

If you could read and process the statement I made you would realize that I said nothing about VZW CEO’s. Also, the user ID states my preference of smartphone.
I don’t know your experience with smartphones but I have had more than I care to remember. A dream come true for me would be a Blackberry running an Android Hybrid. Of course you wouldn’t know anything about that because you have the one phone to rule them all, lol.
Like I said, it was a good phone back in the day, but Android has pushed customers expectations so high and so fast that Apple has lost a lot of ground. So it is said so it is spoken, RIP iPhone3gs

The Droid is a pretty solid phone. I’ve used one for a while. And I’ve spent some time with an Incredible. Both are great phones. The hardware can only take it so far though. I like Android, I really do. But until they get the fragmentation, apps can be stored on an SD card and their apps get more polished, then I will be willing to try it again. I really don’t care if it’s a closed or open system. I jailbreak my iPhone, just like I would root an Android phone. I’m a gadget nerd, plain and simple. We’ve yet to see what the new iPhone hardware will be and any extras that are in 4.0. It’s a good time for consumers, as there are some great smartphone options.

I really do love Apple products but I think Jobs made a huge mistake in getting married to ATT. I grew tired of waiting for the iPhone to come to Verizon so I bought an Incredible and I could not be happier. I love this phone so much that now I could care less about getting an iPhone.

    • Andrew Jerman

Haha, being an iPhone user on AT&T, I’d GIVE you guys the iPhone if AT&T would get Apple’s stick out of their ass and release some decent Android phones. Trust me, you don’t want an iPhone over Android. iPhone is on it’s way out and Android is only on it’s way up.

Like AJF said, Apple waited too long and now everyone except for their bitch (AT&T) has better phones. EVO 4G? Incredible? Hell, T-Mobile has an army of phones better now (why? why T-Mobile?)

Everyone seems to forget one thing when considering the Verizon Droid line-up vs the iPhone — the iphone can travel outside the USA, Canada and parts of Mexico. Verizon doesn’t have an international Droid phone yet. For people picking between the two this seems to be one of the most common features to leave out and also an important one to a growing number of people who are considering getting one of these devices.

      • The_Omega_Man

You mean they DON’T have WiFi in any other countries besides the US? ;)

  • Ashveratu

The way I see it, this is good news. It helps limit the availability of the iPhone and paves the way for more Android devices. For those who do not like being told what they can and can not do with thier gadgets, this is a good thing.

For the previous post above me, a comment is not pointless if you comment about it. It obviously made you think….maybe that was it’s point.

I dont think it is going to happen. Apple has refused to deal with cdma carriers. In Canada Bell and tellus are
cdma they dont have the iphone. those two carriers are just as big as verizon. However both Bell and TEllus
decided to go hsdpa witch is gsm technologhy and now there getting the iphone with in a week. China Mobile
has openly begged Apple for the iphone and Apple refuses to put the iphone on there network. China Mobile
is the largest mobile carrier in the world with 500 million subscribers. Kddi also pleaded with apple but no iphone on there cdma network.
(http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/dcbb96ba-3262-11df-bf20-00144feabdc0.html). Verizon has also decided to join the gsma. Qualcom has decided to join the gsma. (http://news.softpedia.com/news/China-Telecom-KDDI-and-Verizon-Join-GSMA-on-LTE-Development-135151.shtml)
Qualcom has also abandoned any research to create a new standard for cdma to compete with gsm’s Lte.
” (Rev. B will appear in non-US markets, while Qualcomm’s 4G Ultra Mobile Broadband was abandoned.)”
When verizon goes Lte(gsm technology) then they will get an iphone. Four things happened when wsj report came out.
    1) verizon stock prices went up.
    2) Apple stock prices went up.
    3) smart phone sales and upgrades halted at verizon.
    4) qualcom stock prices went up.

    coincidence?

    Thanks Andy

Ahhhhhh! Just hearing this rumor makes me mad. I do not see any reason why Apple would not want to sell the iPhone on as many network as possible. Giving the iPhone to Verizon would double the number of iPhone owners. Win-Win! I am a Verizon customer who wants the iPhone. There are thousands of Verizon customers just like me who want the iPhone. I think it is just un-American!

android + sense UI is better than the Iphone anyways

This is good news. This will allow Android to grow market share. By the time Apple is on Verizon few people will want it. An open system will always win out in the end. The Incredible is the phone to have right now.

  • Incredibe

Play with the Incredible for a few hours, you will never want the locked down, controlled iphone again. Until the incredible came out, there was no real competition. The field is now leveled.

    • Ha Ha

We have the LG Dare..the field is now levelled. No, wait, we have the Storm..the field is now levelled. No, wait, Droid…we have the Droid…the field is now levelled. No, wait……

      • The_Omega_Man

Your right! the Field is Still not Levelled….Apple is now playing Catch Up! (i.e iPhone OS4.0)

  • Corey

Go to hell Brian Marshall, who asked your opinion.

Only Verizon, and its suppliers, know about Verizon products. Seriously, the most tight lipped company I have ever worked for. Like you would know a damn thing.

And BGR, quit reporting unsubstantiated rumors just to generate comments on your site. I swear, you average 23-35 comments per post for a couple days, and you have to dig for some analyst, some where, that thinks some thing about Apple, and Kaboom! Comments!

    Whatever

    • Corey

Wait a minute…. Brian Marshall from Creed??? The bassist from Creed must know what’s up, I take back my previous statement. Good job BGR for finding a credible source for once

  • skyy_flyer

I’m shattered… I mean sure the Incredible may have a better camera, a better processor, Android, Sense, and CURRENT hardware… but it doesn’t have that darn Apple logo so it must be a p.o.s… While from a business standpoint sure it’d be great for Verzon to get the iphone and gain some fanboy users, from a consumer view I have dealt with a iphone and than I’ve dealt with various droids(Incredible, personal line, and than the Droid, friends phone and well I like Android OS better than I liked the AppleOS… but everyone is different so variety never hurt anyone.

    2018-ATT exclusivity continues until 2019

  • The_Omega_Man

I bet an iPhone/Apple fan that this iPhone/Verizon was not going happen by June of 2010! Now that iPhone/Apple fan wants an Incredible on Verzion or will Get the Evo 4G on Sprint…he is completely done with the iPhone lust. But he is now going to PAY for my Droid First! ;)

  • VZW SUX

DRIOD DOES ??? LMAO get lost with ur droids and your crappy cdma + VZW BIG RED network…… and yes vzw’s network may not drop calls but is slow oh yea very slow and by the way i had to hang up a call so i can leave a comment DRIOD DOES ????

  • gsxr6er

I thought the FCC banned large contract extentions after apple and at&t’s first one? Does anyone know if thats true? That would make me think they legally wouldnt be able to sign another extention..

  • Chase

I love my AT&T service and my iPhone 3GS. I had AT&T well before the iPhone first came about. I have family that have, verizon and they’re leaving as soon as the new iPhone is announced. Verizon is too blah.

And by the way… Why should apple join with verizon after all the jealous bashing verizon did… Ugh ugh.. Can you hear me now? Lol

  • Anthony

It funny man, I work for Apple specifically selling iphones. Its just funny how worked up ppl get over phones. Use the phone, you either like it or you dont simple. I have a Driod even working with Apple. All because of ATT’s bad services. More than half the customers say, ” How can you merge with such a bad company.” Got to admit iphone is much faster, however Driod has the style and gives customers what they ask for.
